I don't get why people are mad about this thing. While the replacement reason is stupid, this is so much better. This actually looks like some kind of sun deity and fits the biome way better. The first Barako just looked like a fat native person, then an obese ogre. Old Barakoa were goofy, this is frightening. Also I now get to run around with a shoebill mask, 11/10 update.
The whole ominous and alien vibe of the umvuthi doesn't really fit with the sun aesthetic, with barako it was clear what he was supposed to be: a living mask that was empowered by the Sun and disguised itself as an ogre like being. His design also fit more with the aesthetic and art style of Minecraft, the umvuthi however looks like a generic boss creature that you'd see in terraria or something. The umvuthi also looks like a weird mix between a pokemon and a freaking fursuit which is a huge contrast from barako. And I'm sorry but the Abavuthana just look horrible, they're these weird raptor like things that are attached to energy blobs for heads. If you like the umvuthi and Abavuthana more than the barakoa that's fine, but I fail to see how they fit with the tribal and sun themes more when their designs just don't reflect them.

That does render everything I said invalid. I do have a suggestion for the mod. You could (hypothetically) leave the sunbird in the game, but add back the barakoans, making them more clearly not human, and more disconnected from human cultures. Then, have them attack each other on sight, and make it so that some mask effects only appear for the birds and others are only on the barakoans. Again, sorry for my previous comment, I was being a complete jerk.

One of my biggest problems with the Abavuthana is that they don't fit the aesthetic of the savannah at all. Their thematic and design attributes just don't mesh well with their surroundings. I feel it would be better if they were moved to the desert instead, it not only makes more sense from a design standpoint but also a thematic one too because many ancient tribes that built mythologies surrounding the Sun were located in desert-like areas.

You should make the Abavuthana emit different distorted squawks, screeches, clucks, gobbles and other bird-like vocalizations to mimic the gibberish of the barakoa, that way it would make them feel more like intelligent beings.

There was only a couple guys imagining their cultures as evil green goblins. Still (more than) a bit mad about the change, though I understand why it was done. It's still a great mod, even if my favorite creature from it is gone.

Although Umvuthi's look isn't bad, I expected more from his mask, I think it would look better if it was inspired by another bird, perhaps the terror bird, and I also think the mask could be completely gold to remind me a little of the old barako

make it sound sort of whispery like a hollow knight character (grimm for example), add some reverb, and maybe the sounds of a crackling fire in there with some effects and i feel like it would work great

There was only a couple guys imagining their cultures as evil green goblins. Still (more than) a bit mad about the change, though I understand why it was done. It's still a great mod, even if my favorite creature from it is gone.

All the masks are based on African birds. Terror birds were in South America
