It's great to have a younger generation appreciate the mighty Lizzy. Many many great musicians and bands fade away after time, but as a fan of over 40 years there's hope they'll one day be acknowledged as to their legacy.
Its was a good cross section of tracks that highlighted Lizzy's more 'laid back but deep' stuff.
It still amazes me how brilliant Brian Downey is.
No fuss in the background but, if you listen for him, he nails the 'feel' everytime and it makes you think that he purposely 'lays low in the background', not wanting to attract attention away from the rest of the band.
Overlooked and underappreciated as a drummer IMO.
    Cheers

Sun Goes Down…… to me almost Phils testament song, melancholy, fatalistic, visionary, …. plus a magnificent musical piece testament to Lizzy, fabulous bass, moody keyboards, magical guitars…. and Downey keeping it all in place. I personally shed a tear each time I listen 😢. Thanks - glad you guys are enjoying Lizzy in their various incarnations. (their live version on LIFE is beautiful & emotional)

You can't go wrong with a Thin Lizzy marathon. I am pleased because I hadn't heard 'The Sun Goes Down' before, and I thought it was great. I'll definitely be checking out the 'Thunder and Lightning' album. Now all you have to do NicknLex, is to react to their greatest album, Jailbreak, which bizarrely has not featured on any of the previous Thin Lizzy reactions. It is amazing! Thanks guys and Nick.

    My favourite band ever.
My favourite song ever is Still In Love With You (the Live And Dangerous version is the best)… closely followed by Black Rose.
I want to suggest (and if you’ve done any of these already, please excuse me, I have only recently discovered your channel) , anyway, have a listen to Cold Sweat from Thunder and Lightning. And follow that up with The Holy War and Baby Please Don’t Go. All from T&L.
    Enjoy!
Just noticed you did a solo Cold Sweat - in that case - sub that out and put in Someday She Is Going To Hit Back - and listen to the drums on that!!!

Hi again ! [ again ? ...wot a surprise ! ] That was a great marathon. I really enjoyed that and of course "The Sun Goes Down" is on my regular playlist. I have a usb stick I put on my favourite tracks from many artists [ from my cd's I downloaded ] and so this track is on there. My cd player also has a usb input to play. I knew you would like it, Love the bass and the sinister overtones with the storyline. Very atmospheric....Lex your talking about your Grandma asking what's the song called. Lol ... The Peter Jackson documentary of The Beatles "Get Back" has Paul singing to the group a new idea for a song "I've got a feeling" and after playing some, George asks " Is that one called I've got a feeling " 😂 .... I'll leave a link to the 1 & 1/2 minute clip. Byeee Jim X >>>> ruclips.net/video/3S4PYfwuMQs/видео.html

    Thanks for this guys!! I've been a Lizzy fan since the early mid 70s. If I were writing up a list of must listen to's, in no particular order they'd be;
    1. The Warrior from the album Live & Dangerous
    2. Vagabonds Of the Western World from same titled album
    3. Little Darling from album Remembering Part 1
    4. Angel From The Coast from Jailbreak
    5. Suicide from album Live & Dangerous
    6. Waiting For An Alibi from album Black Rose
    7. Fools Gold from Johnny The Fox
    8. Massacre from Live And Dangerous
    9. Fight or Fall from Jailbreak
    10. Spirit Slips Away from Album Fighting.
    11. Freedom song from album Fighting.
    12. Cowboy Song from Live & Dangerous
    13. Romeo & The Lonely Girl from Jailbreak.
    14. Emerald from Live & Dangerous.
    15. King's Vengance from Fighting
    16. Black Boys On The Corner from Vagabonds Of Western World.
    17. Southbound from Live & Dangerous
    18. The Hero & The Madman from Vagabonds Of Western World.
    19. Sweet Marie from Johnny The Fox
    20. Don't Believe A Word from Live & Dangerous
    21. Old Flame ( for Lex) from Johnny The Fox.
    22. With Love from Black Rose
    23. Rocky from Johnny The Fox.
    24. The Rocker from Live & Dangerous
    25. Got To Give It Up from Black Rose
    26. With Love from Black Rose.
    27. Sarah from Black Rose
    28. Running Back from Jailbreak.
    29. Mama Nature Says from Vagabonds.
    30. Randolph's Tango from Vagabonds
The above songs in my opinion are what separated Thin Lizzy from other bands of their day and elevated them to the status of a truly classic hard rock band.
These songs will deepen your appreciation for a truly one off band the likes has never been seen and heard before or since. I hope you discover them for yourselves and that they become part of your musical library. Enjoy or as Phil used to say at the end of yet another jaw dropping live performance, "Until the next time".

Very good choices. Always good when someone explores my favourite band in greater depth. Phil Lynott sometimes attracts criticism for not being the most technical of bass players, but his playing is impeccable on all these tracks. It may not be complex but it's very cool. There is no more versatile rock drummer than Brian Downey. Grandmaster Flash sampled Johnny the Fox Meets Jimmy the Weed. Someone is a Scott Gorham fan, as he takes solos on three of these tracks. The Sun Goes Down is possibly his best. My preference is for his regular partner-in-crime, Brian Robertson. Both are heard to their greatest effect on the Live and Dangerous album. No other recording comes close to capturing the real power of the band on stage.
