"Why would anyone do that?!" Sisyphus offended the Greek gods when he was alive, and was doomed to forever roll a boulder up an apparently endless hill. When he gets near the top, the boulder is enchanted to go out of his grasp and roll back down to the bottom.
The version I heard was much more mundane; he just had to push the Boulder up the hill. Then, when he reached the top, it'd roll down the other way and hour bad to start over.

Not an endless hill. The hill had a peak, but the boulder would always roll back down before he could push it over.
It's actually surprising how well the myth of Sisyphus works as a rage game.
Sisyphus can be applied to any game, if you start speedrunning that game.

Instead of keeping her eye on the ball, everything went downhill for Mousey when she chose to keep her eye on her favorite spot of the ball.
Sisyphus is not doing this for a living. It's his punishment in the afterlife after he tried to fool both Hades & Persephone.

Honestly, this is like me programming. Failing at the start, somewhere in the middle I succeed somewhat, only to fail again, scrapping everything and after a day I'm exactly where I left off feeling like I could have accomplished more by procrastinating.

If you want to have that feeling with 100 times the amount of difficulty, try speedrunning any game.
You will have climbed to the top of the hill with that ball, if you get 1st place, and have fallen to the bottom, if you're not first place.
Its amazing that stories from the minds of people that lived almost 3000 years ago still inspire modern media !
