- These veteran heroes are located within the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Norman, Oklahoma. I came across them by accident while looking for some other graves in the cemetery.

I found that he died in France and the 23rd of June would have been after D Day which took place on 6th of June... Bet he was injured taking part in the invasion.
I bet you're right on that Thomas. I'm curious how you found out where he died?
Our soldiers really a special breed. Hero's. God Bless all who serve and the parents and family.
Thank you for watching Linda. It really is touching to see memorials such as these and knowing the families lost a loved one.
@@RhettyforHistory You can never replace a hero.
You're 1000% right on that. I'm forever grateful to those who have made that ultimate sacrifice.
Rhett, my grandparents are buried there. Thank you for giving me a peek. I'm hoping to visit next year. Blessings to you and yours. I'm a vet as well.
This really is a nice cemetery and I have been in there several times. I hope you are able to visit your grandparents there. Thank you for watching Trish.
I always enjoy visiting cemeteries with you. I am not from Oklahoma but I have been there twice in my life. The deaths of all of our service personnel it’s just further proof that freedom isn’t free. Unfortunately and entire generation growing up doesn’t understand that. God bless the men and women who rise to the challenge to defend our country.
Ain't that the truth, Jeff. God Bless.
You're are correct on that. I often wonder what would happen if something major happened and we needed personnel like we did for WW2. How would we fair? I just don't feel that generation was all about themselves. Somehow the values seem to be disappearing fast and I'm ready for them to come back. I'm glad you are enjoying the cemeteries here and I appreciate you watching my friend.
Outstanding video! The Wright's headstone is one of the greatest one's I've ever seen! We're so lucky to have the military that we have! People don't realize their sacrafice's are why we're able to be free and safe! My heart & prayer's go out to all of them & their families! They deserve HONOR and RESPECT!
You're absolutely right about them deserving honor and respect. They have sacrificed a lot and so have the families. Thank you for watching Ronnie.
Rhett, thank you for this wonderful video honoring our veterans. What a beautiful memorial tribute to the Wright family and I always love how you pay special attention to veterans of the various wars. I also want to say that tomorrow, December 7th, is the 80th anniversary of Pearl Harbor/ WW II.May all our veterans rest in eternal peace. Take care 🐎
Tomorrow is a big anniversary date. None of my family was in Pearl Harbor but both of my grandfathers joined the military because of it. My grandmother also did the same and my maternal grandparents got married 2 years later on December 7th. They always felt strongly about that date and never wanted it forgotten. It affected a lot of people in that generation. I hope we never forget what they and other generations have done so that we have the freedoms we do. Thank you for watching Brenda.
Hey Rhett, thank you for featuring this hero.
As a veteran yourself, you are keenly aware of the sacrifice these men and women make in serving this great country.
My son served two tours in Iraq and was honorably discharged because of a blown knee he sustained during his second deployment.
Again my friend, thank you for your service.
Men like your son are real heroes in my book too. I never grow tired of visiting them in cemeteries. It's sort of my way of honoring them and thanking them for what they did for all of us. Thank you for watching my friend.
very well kept cemetery! The patch that the soldier has on his headstone on the left top is the 2 Inf. Div There motto is "Second to none" he was also Airborne Infantry.
Thank you for watching and helping out with some of the patches and badges.
Very nice tribute to the fallen. A handsome young man he was.
So sad.
So many.
You're right about it being sad also so many. Thank you for watching my friend.
Beautiful video Rhetty of a couple of real hero's Lets hope there are still people like them out there Thankyou for sharing
I hope so too because we will always need them. Thank you for watching Lindsay.

They definitely all are heros. What a beautiful headstone to see at sunset. Very moving visit, Rhetty!
Thank you for watching my friend. I love visiting cemeteries at sunrise and/or sunset.
A striking memorial with photos. Thank you for your service. Handsome fellow.
He certainly was a hero and he sounds like he was quite the athlete and soldier. Thank you for watching Arleen.
Thank you for allowing us to visit these graves. We mourn the loss of all our servicemen and servicewomen!
May we never forget as a nation. Thank you for watching Beverly.
Thank you Rhett what a beautiful Memorial for a brave young man. Greetings to all the family. From Africa. 🐘🐘
They really did a wonderful Job on the Wright memorial. It let's visitors feel more connected to who they pass in the cemetery. I hope things are going well where you are. Thank you for watching Yvonne.
Glad you did this video Rhetty. My hat is off to this man. God bless him and his family. My grandpa originally had plans to join the police force when he came back home from Japan but changed his mind and went to driving a gas truck for Texaco.
I'm sure he made a good living doing that and it probably wasn't as dangerous. Thank you for watching and sharing some about your grandfather.
Thank you to all the soldiers families...the true heros of this country....some gave some and some gave all is a true statement...Prayers for our vets and the fallen and their families....
You're right the families sacrifice a lot as well. Thank you for watching Kathy.
Thank you for giving those service members a voice ,God bless em . To those who served sacrificed and continue to serve my gratitude 🙏
The least we can do is not forget them and remember what they did for their country. Thank you for watching.
What a beautiful monument for the Wright family. Thanks Rhetty!
Yes it is and they did a wonderful job on it. It really helps s a visitor know him more. Thank you for watching.
Thank you for sharing the story of this and the other Heros of this Great Nation. They can't be honored enough, especially those who gave all.
I agree with you completely. We cannot possibly begin to pay them back for what they did for all of us. Thank you for watching George.
Beautiful, Rhetty. God rest all these brave heroes.
Thank you for watching Jeannine.
May he Rest in Peace. Beautiful memorial Headstone Rhetty. Thank you.
It really was a beautiful headstone and it really makes a visitor feel like they know them better. Thank you for watching.
The lighting is spectacular in this video. It almost made LT Wright's stone glow. Thank you for your service.
I loved the way it looked as well. The morning and evenings are always my favorite times to visit a cemetery. Thank you for watching Tricia!
Thank you to all that serve present and pass.
Thank you for watching Lisa.
He came home to his dream everyday .he's here today
He is home that is for sure. There are some pretty good photos of his funeral online from the Oklahoman newspaper. Thank you for watching.
I can only wonder about poor Mrs. Michelle Wright, loosing her son, then her husband, and she is still a young woman. I hope she finds peace. I have a real affinity for mothers who bury sons. I hope and pray she has a good Christmas. Thanks for posting this video.
You're welcome. Her husband battled cancer his last two years so I know that was especially tough to see and experience. Thank you for watching.
What a wonderful tribute THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS 🙏 🇺🇸
You're welcome Jackie. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Wow! Thanks for sharing 👍 I too like to walk the cemetery (Greenhill) here in Muskogee. God bless America and her heroes 🙏
That is one cemetery that I would like to visit. I know there is a lot of history in it. Thank you for watching!
Well done 👍 thanks for going back to this Cemetery 😊
Thank you for watching Phillip.
Much respect to you recognizing these heroes. My favorite video of yours that I have watched
I'm glad that you enjoyed this video. I love to find these heroes like this so you will often seem them mixed in other videos. Thank you for watching Warren.
4th street in Moore in honors this young man. Between Eastern (also named Toby Keith Blvd) and Sunnylane. The IOOF cemetary is where my in laws are. Ed Sherwood was a WW2 Purple Heart recipient. They are just across from Lt. Wright. What a remarkable coincidence. Love your videos Rhetty. I always learn something! Thanks.
Oh how interesting you have a relative in there and he is right near Wright. Surely I passed him and didn't realize it. Thank you for watching and sharing about another hero Ed Sherwood.
What a beautiful monument. Thank you for sharing.
You're welcome and thank you for watching!
God bless the Wright family! thank you both for your service!
He was certainly a hero. Thank you for watching.
Thank you Rhett. Wonderful tribute.
You're welcome and thank you for watching.
Very nice tribute Rhett. He died way too young. I can’t help but think about his Mom.
He did die young and his mother has-been through a lot. First her son and then her husband who battled cancer for the last two years of his life. Thank you for watching.
Thanks for the video. What a great headstone for a OU hero. The WWII veterans stone don't contain enough information. I leave a penny on a D-day veterans' every year and all it says is POW. He was in the third wave that hit the hit the beach and went across France and Belgium only to run out of amo in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a 6 foot 180 pound man that weighted 80 pounds after his camp was liberated. One of my OU hero is Walter "Waddy" Young. His father was a 101 Ranch cowboy and is buried in the Ponca City Odd Fellows.
That sounds like a couple other interesting stories you just shared. Those POW guys experience all sorts of horrors. Thank you for watching James.
Thank you for your service sir! May you rest in peace! 🙏 Amen
Thank for watching.
May God grant their souls rest. They ran into trouble when everyone else ran out. They are a rare breed
They certainly are a rare breed and we owe a lot to them for their sacrifices. Thank you for watching Kirk.
@@RhettyforHistory You're most welcome as always. It is a pleasure to watch these especially. It reminds us that Freedom is not Free it requires the blood, sweat and tears of Patriots.
You're tight about that. There is a high cost for freedom and I think many have forgotten that.
R.i.P to all the brave heroes, great video Rhett 👍 🙂
Thank you for watching Monika.
The grave between the 2 trees. What a neat place to Rest.
I agree. It's really a nice cemetery to rest in.
The Wright family headstones are very impressive and told their story through pictures very well.
Although this young hero died way too young and way too soon, his father was also young when he passed. At least they are together again. Nice video Rhetty. ❤️Jodie 🇦🇺
He was young. He battled cancer the last two years of his life. The poor wife/mother has certainly gone thru a lot losing bother child and husband. Thank you for watching Jodie.
@@RhettyforHistory yes, she certainly has. Hope she is doing okay.
So do I. There are some great photos of the mom and dad at the funeral of David. If you Google the name David Timothy Wright Oklahoma you will see how incredibly sad that day was for them.
@@RhettyforHistory I shall do that now.
Yes, very sad. How lovely to see a portion of the Oklahoma highway dedicated to this young hero.
Isn’t it terrible that in this day and age, we are still losing people in wars. With all the help, other countries need, it probably will never end unfortunately. I guess we are lucky though that we still have these fine people willing to sacrifice themselves for their countries, our countries.
Thanks for the post, my prayers to his mother.
Thank you for sharing..headstone of David Wright was awesome
You're welcome and I thank you for watching Jody. They really did do an amazing job on his memorial marker.
Very nice! Thank you for sharing this location🪦🪦🪦
You're welcome Brenda and I appreciate you watching!
I’m older than the father. What a gorgeous family marker. Wow.
He really died young as well. He battled cancer his last two years. Thank you for watching Sandy.
The one on the left is the Division patch. I think the 2nd Infantry Division. Also, the Parachute badge & the Combat Infantry Badge, & Air Assault badge. He was able to jump out of airplanes & repel out of helicopters.
Really sounds like he was quite the athlete, soldier and leader. Thank you for watching and helping out on those Mike.
@@RhettyforHistory Glad to help, love your vlogs.
First comment! Great video as always rhetty! 👏🏼💻 beautiful colors of the sunshine 🌅
Thank you for watching Lila! I love visiting cemeteries at sunrise or sunset.
Thanks again.
You're welcome
The patch on David's left shoulder the star with an American Indian on it, is the logo of the 2nd infantry Division based out of Ft. Lewis Wa, not the 1st Division, who ever wrote that screwed up. Great Vlog, Thanks for remembering Rhett.👍
Thank you for watching and and helping out on the patch identification.
Great placevti find outlaws from wild west. Good show
Thank you that was very interesting keep up the good work happy Yourself A Merry Christmas bye-bye
Thank you for watching and commenting. I hope you have a Merry Christmas as well.
What a beautiful video. Honor and Respect, 1ST LT David Timothy Wright II. 🇺🇸❤️
He was certainly the all American hero. Thank you for watching Jennifer.
Thank you for sharing the video enjoyed it. I was born qnd raised in okla but live in Michigan now. .... Have something in common.
Yes we do. My mother was born in Michigan but she was a military brat so she live all over the place. Thank you for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Great story.
Thank you for watching Sandra.
Awesome vlog
Thank you for watching!
When I visit my grandparents Graves I clean up abandond grave stone. I bring that plastic edging for flower beds and put it arround the stone to stop mud and grass from covering it again. The. I use ceramic car wax to polish the stone and since it's hydrophobic it repelled watter and dirt.
It's good that you are taking care of your grandparents graves. Not many do that. Thank you for watching!
🇺🇸👍 nice job Rhett….
Thank you for watching.
awesome video
Thank you for watching.
Would like to see you to do one on Denver Cemetery Norman Oklahoma
I don't think I have heard of that one before so I appreciate the suggestion. Thank you for watching!
The Wright family is very impressive.
Yes it is and I love that it makes a visitor stop and visit. Then you get to feel like you know them more.
There is a memorial at the Graceland Memorial Park Cemetery in Owasso,Oklahoma I was wondering if you have been to that one ?
I do not believe I have. I've only recall visiting Fairview Cemetery in Owasso so it sounds like that is another one I need to visit. Thank you for watching and telling me about this one.
Check out St. Patrick's cemetery, in between Edmond and Piedmont, OK.
Thank you for the suggestion. I haven't been in that one.
@@RhettyforHistory my dad is buried there. He was a WW2 vet, US Navy.
I'll have to try and look for him. I love seeing the veterans in cemeteries.
Looks nice
It is definitely well maintained.
I wonder if Campbell the WW2 veterans remains are actually there? I didn’t know if the government actually returned remains to the family back then.
I'm not sure on that. I really tried to find a photo of him or even just his story but I never could find anything. I would love to know more about him. Thank you for watching Paul.
Hero's.
Thank you for watching
That's sad I bet my daughter knew him. She was born in 85 and went to MHS.
She very well could have. She is right there in the age group. I know Moore High is pretty large though. Thank you for watching.
❤
Thank you for watching.
As a former service man, this stories always make me sad. Almost half of US casualties and wounded in Afghanistan was from IEDs. Wa are small country but we was backing you there with some 5000 troops in total, we had one casualty and few wounded, also from IEDs. Price was too high and we all know how it ended. You can't help to one who won't help himself in first, sadly that's the summary of that mission.
I know the war has been a subject of controversy this year. But I will always see these men and women who were involved in this conflict as heroes. Im curious, what country are you in? Thank you for watching.
@@RhettyforHistory You're so right. Politics is one thing and soldiers doing their honorable duty completely different, and they all are hero's. I'm from Croatia.
Unfortunately politics and soldiers get intertwined a lot. Thanks for answering where you are from. I was just curious with the service you mentioned of your country.
🙏
Thank you for watching.
David wright was a infantryman in the US army
Did u go to college Rhetty?
How do you find the cemeteries that you explore?
If it is out of state then they are mostly ones I plan on visiting. Occasionally I see one by chance and I will go in. Here in Oklahoma I visit quite a few of them numerous times. They could be planned or they could just be one I stumbled upon. I enjoy going in different ones and to me they are like card catalogs in an old library. They all have stories and we just have to find them. It's something I have always done and I enjoy seeing if I can uncover an interesting story. Thank you for watching Stu!
There is a stone in El Reno’s cemetery that I would love to show it. It’s also a veteran.
I have been in that cemetery q few times but I have not done a story on anything yet but it is in the plans. I'm not sure if the grave I have seen is the one you are thinking of as this is a sizeable cemetery. Definitely a lot of stories in there though. Thank you for watching.
@@RhettyforHistory it is the pillar with the soldiers carved into two side. One in dress uniform and the other in khakis. He was kia in ww2
Ok I know exactly which one you are referring to. It is very eye catching and stands out the most in the cemetery. I do plan on doing a story on him at some point as well as Ho Ho the Clown who is in there.
@@RhettyforHistory awesome would love to be there when you do it. There are some great stones there.
Is that the same cemetery where the 1918 fire victims of griffin memorial are buried?
Yes I is and I will have a video coming soon on that. Thank you for watching!
Thank you
You're welcome
Hold up.. Is that a hose bib?? 0:38 If so that's the first one I've ever seen in the middle of a cemetery.
I believe it is and I do see them from time to time. Just depends on whether or not the cemetery wants to try and keep it green and also have extra mowing to do. They do a really good job at maintaining this one and with the size of it there is a lot to maintain. It is still very much an active cemetery. Thank you for watching.
@@RhettyforHistory LOL I figured you'd have encountered a few. I enjoyed the rest of the vid too BTW.
I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the video. I appreciate you coming along on the adventure.
PFC Campbell died just 17 days after D Day.
* Lt Wright insignia (left top) is 2nd Infantry Division, Ft Lewis - eyesight's too poor to see what's on the right
I do wonder if he was involved in that mission. I really tried looking through a lot of websites trying to find out more on him but I came up empty. I'm sure he is in some local papers that are on microfilm at the library. Thank you for watching Kowboy.
Thomas Rhett
I thought the other time when you said odd fellow, you ment the People Who run that grave stone company.
Why are cemiteries called odd fellow.
Or dont I get it right?🧐🙆♂️
I'm not exactly sure what you are asking but I.O.O.F. or Independent Order of the Odd Fellows is a fraternal organization that goes back to the early 1800s. In the late 1800's and early 1900's they really believed in starting or maintaining whole cemeteries or certain sections within some cemeteries. Some of those are still very much active in caring for those cemeteries. It just depends on their membership numbers in each area. These organizations created trusts and together with ongoing burials it allows the cemetery to have perpetual care. Most all I.O.O.F. or Odd Fellows cemeteries are well maintained and cared for. Sometimes you might see some in rural areas that might be considered ghost towns and they are not. There are just simply no people available to make that happen. If I didn't answer your question please let me know. Thank you for watching David.
@@RhettyforHistory you got it
Thank you .
In dutch odd fellow means :rare knakker"😁
But I understand now
👍
So now you'll have to help me. Does that world Knakker just mean rare fellow?
@@RhettyforHistory odd means
Rare/ vreemde
Fellow means kameraad/vent/ vakgenoot
But in this case when you put odd infront
Its ,vent
Rare vent/knakker
Knakker means ,vreemd/buitenbeentje/gek
Oh ok I see what you are saying now qnd I understand the confusion. These Odd Fellows are not really rare. From what I have seen they stretch all over the United States. Thanks for letting me understand a little more.
If you got to where Jesse James is buried, there is a veteran buried there that’s from the revolutionary war.
I've been in that cemetery but missed that veteran. I have seen a lot of those on the east coast though. Thank you for watching.
It’s like caddy corner to the pavilion that tells you where all the graves are. His name is Richard Simms Jr.
Thanks for telling me about that one. If I'm ever in the area again I'll do a story on him.
You’re welcome
God speed soldier and thank you for your service and shout from heaven BOOMER SOONER
Thank you for watching Lance!

It is sad to see men like David trying to do something good for the people. Somehow I hope he was able to make some sort of difference even if it was in one person. Thank you for watching.
