I was in the Praetorium earlier when I saw this come up on my feed (had no idea what i was in for) and now that i've seen it, I feel so incredibly sad about all the nameless NPCs that joined us along our journey T_T idk how you've managed to make me feel this way, but well done. and also it was nice to watch the BTS / reason for the video. I enjoyed it very much! well done.

This reminds me a lot of the side-quest pertaining to the Palace of the Dead and the side-quests following that, where you meet the surviving party members who are facing the fact of their beloved comrade having become lost (and eventually dead again). Very well made and...that hardcore of dude having no lore hilarious. Best of luck to you dude c:

It really hit home when those always there in the background NPC's weren't. At first I was excited to see them put to use like that. Then tragedy. Great work!
I dont have the time or talent for this. But always wanted to do it for my FC. None of us had "lore" for our characters until we had some one ask us. So we all spent a few minutes coming up with it. Now we all joke about it and bring it up as if it was cannon, haha.
Canon events are special! Gives that little bit extra for your character when a piece of dialogue comes up that could vaguely be related, it's all good fun haha'
All ya need is Blender (the 3d animation program) and time! We all start somewhere!

No wonder the NPCs in starter gear were scared - they knew they ain't got the plot armor that Protagonist-kun in the shiny fancy armor has, so they were *definitely* going to die for a plot point!

Any story that can dredge up this much power and emotion in under 4 minutes, is simply incredible! Such a good look into what else is going on behind the scenes while the WoL is doing their thing!! Someone else in the comments mentioned survivors guilt being very real, and it is!! I've felt twangs of it throughout my own life, let alone in game.. everyone's lost someone, and this depicts the ire of war perfectly..

gods, there are so many shots in this that are just incredible, where you totally nail the faces and poses and composition... the framing of the silhouettes with the transition from blue to red was a super cool visual metaphor. not to mention the description of "the question" and "the answer". truly captivating writing. thank you for sharing :D

The animation came out beautiful and extremely well done. A little too good, I’m not gonna lie. I started laughing when the book until the video ended. I kinda felt the frustration right there. That felt personal like every DM in a DND who just plan on the weeks of writing only for it to get tossed in the fire after 1 action or choices happen. 😂😂😂

This was an amazing piece of art. Forgot to breathe at some point because of the tension of the animation and story telling. The emotional damage was done after finishing the video, but it was so worth watching it. It reminded me of this quote "The hero saves the people but who saves the hero?" Thank you for this!

Just saw this after it popped up on my feed some days back. Glad I watched it, really.
When I saw the part where the Adder officer was telling them about their role, I immediately knew it was about Operation: Archon. The reason it clicked immediately is because my own FFXIV character had 'lore' that I dared to establish as far back as pre-A Realm Reborn, even though I only started playing in the late 5.x patches of Shadowbringers. The reason I did it is because I wanted a character that had a 'lived-in' feeling if I did start roleplaying as them with characters who were more 'current' and up-to-date lore-wise.
Around the time Operation: Archon was happening, he was only just a Retainer. Not even a combat Retainer, just a botanist-type freelancing Retainer that works for different clients by choice-instead of working for a single one like it is with our in-game ones. I worked with a similar idea where if the bulk of the Grand Companies' forces were dedicated to the operation against the Garleans-who's protecting the various home-fronts populated by non-combatants?
I decided that-at the time-my character was doing Retainer-related errands in the northern side of the Black Shroud, close to Hyrstmill. When Operation: Archon was happening in earnest, the Ixal used that opportunity to raid townships-including Hyrstmill. He was essentially in the wrong place at the right time. Wood-chopping hatchet in hand, he stood in front of a Hearer that was protecting a number of panicked and wounded residents and was able to hold off until a garrison of Wood Wailers and God's Quiver arrived to help chase the Ixal away.
That was his first actual taste of the kind of intensity an Adventurer would face against other 'people'. It didn't end up deterring him, and he joined the Adventurers' Guild some few weeks later. He was already thinking about it even before all that, and it just further cemented his decision to do so

Being called a "Hero" isn't always the best thing. Heroes don't exactly get rewarded for what they've done. This was a nice, if sad video. The question for me is always "Do you keep fighting?" So far every time the answer has been yes.

At least for me i noticed it was the same for us WOLs too. We never well, really save anyonr or fail and at best paved the way for people to save themselves (until EW i guess). Stories like that and this vid are why i like the FF series so much. Not a very traditional hero story
ive always wondered about those hero groups that rise up where the scions cant be/arrive late. Just people doing their best and dieing for it. Pondered doing my own story on it one day, maybe using my retainers as the MCs XD

This was absolutely spectacular to watch. Your animation skills are very impressive, your camera work is solid, and I love the stylized visuals you had at 2:30 to 2:33, that made my jaw drop. Thanks for the behind the scenes part of the video too and giving us a little insight into your creative process, was really cool to hear how it all came together. Definitely keep up the good work, I like the creative mindset you have. Oh and I wanted to ask, I'm guessing that the models used are the same exact ones your friend has for their WoL, I was curious if you could tell me how you were able to get the models. I'm an aspiring animator and me and my group of friends mess around on 14 whenever we get the chance and I would love to figure out how to just grab our characters and animate them in Blender. Again, beautiful work you did here. Definitely subscribing to keep an eye on what more cool stuff you make.
You'd wanna look into Github and find tools called "Meddle" and "Mektools"! That will help you get started!

Do you mean the voice lines or the physical scene itself? If it's the voice line, then it's actually from the same voice actor as the Commander! (EggmanFlow at Bluesky/ Tyson Kingsley). If you meant the physical scene itself, then it's the same fortress as before!

Well, glad I decided to click on this and give it a watch..
Because god damn.. Praet's hell. And that's just the early crap.. Imagine what was happening to folks during the Final Days? Or those who may not be the WOL, but have the Echo/Blessing of Light that allows them to avoid being tempered, and having to deal with effectively survivors guilt... The adventurers that became that way because their homeland was taken over by the Garleans, or post Praet, they defected and ran off, because screw whatever the hell Eorzea just threw their way, they wanna have a better life than meet the boogieman of Praet!
It's true! We mostly only get our perspective as the player character. Same as in life, we really don't know what other people may be struggling with!

I was always interested in doing animations for my WoL, but Idk where to go about starting, tutorials, or even the programs I need.
Definitely start out by learning Blender, the 3D software I use to animate! That is a huge wall that people trying to just "get their character in there and go" hit, and they lose steam quickly. It can be an intimidating program without some time spent on there. After that lookup "MekTools" it is a blender add-on that can seriously help out!

Yeah, I've never felt like my character truly was WoL material. There's just too big a gap between me and all of the insanity I've seen others do, and my brain can't really reconcile the plot calling me "Warrior of Light" when I'm surrounded by far, far, far stronger people in the actual game. In my head, my little white mage is less "hero" and more "hero-adjacent." The NPC you get when you select Duty Support, that kind of thing. The B or C team, who is strong enough to stand on the same battlefield as the real ones, but not much more than that.

@@ildathet Ooooh, yea commissions for this would be difficult... It is a multi-month-long process and if I'm working on a commission, then it means I'm not working on my own projects. It is something that's been on the back of my mind though!
Isn't the party also wol? Since shadow bringers they said basically anyone can be a wol so they don't die since they are protected just fall unconscious and rezzing,,revives them. Though going with a more realistic if there is only one wol I can see how this makes sense and not all adventurers are wol so in a way it makes sense but than again it should've been a party of wols with the shadow bringers major reveal on anyone can be a wol as long as they hear the voice
This short story affected me emotionally more than the entirety of Dawntrail combined. Maybe a low bar,but phenomenal work regardless. Kudos!
