David Draiman detests autotune and will not use it if he knows about it. He professionally trained and has a voice that does not require autotune. You can see him perform it live and sick on Conan and there is also a live concert performance where he performs flawlessly.
I've heard that
Yes, I agree. I do wish vocal coaches would do a little research on the artist they are “reacting to” because it comes off as criticizing. I find that guys like this tend to disbelieve the capability of others simply because they themselves are not capable of doing the same thing. 🤷🏾♀️ He said it himself, this is the guy that sung Down with the Sickness. Does he not know how many times he’s had to perform that song as well as the others that are similar to it? Clearly, he’s got mad vocal skills. He is humble about his abilities and let’s his talents speak for themselves. 😁
Fil Henley has a video explaining the autotune and pitch correction used on both the original recording and the Conan performance. This coach is dead on in his assessment. ruclips.net/video/v_h9-Cpn_uY/видео.html
@@Itachi22 Take a look at Fil Henley’s video on the subject. You can see the corrections clearly on the software compared to an unaltered live performance (not Conan). ruclips.net/video/v_h9-Cpn_uY/видео.html
Hi old man, I was 13 when this song was written 15 when it hit the airwaves. The message never really hit me until I heard this, and he delivers it right to you soul. The Performance is a masterpiece.
I'm 76, honey. This song was part of the phenomenal music created during my youth.
David Draiman....can go from baritone to tenor, from clear as a bell to rasp and back ON A DIME! unbelievable voice! Amazing timber and control !!
more than 3 octaves, and very controlled
I don't mean to offend, but a baritone that sings high notes is still a baritone and doesn't suddenly become a tenor 🙈
@@LadyArsenica1 umm....I didn't say he WAS a tenor....it's "tenor voice" or "tenor notes or as you call it "high notes" lolol ...is that better?? Geeze....smh....hope you get a life soon.....
@@ruthiewohlforth5464 He's a baritone singing high notes 😄
But I know what you mean 🙂
@@LadyArsenica1 ....I thought that's what I just said?????
I heard a brilliant Italian vocal coach describe Davied's voice as reminiscent of a cello, especially on the long "n" of the first "silence" and now I can never unhear it.
There are a lot of vocal coaches reacting to this, as you said, but you and the Italian gentlemen are my favorite so far. Actual technical info, and not just focusing on superficial details.
thanks Bronwyn!
In one word exactly
Get ready for a religious experience! Moves me to my very soul!
glad you enjoyed
He's done it live. David Draiman is incredible.
so I heard
@@ramseyvoicestudio and he had either cold or flu..... unreal
His performance is a feast for the soul.
yes!
Older?? I'm 63 and love Disturbed!!!!
shouldn't have generalized, Debbie
🤣I am pushing 50, went to many Disturbed concerts, was there from the very beginning! If you are 50 you are looking dang good! You have a nice energy.
I'm 56 lol
I am 52 and never stopped listening to metal. And I never will.
I love that you know how to sing + know music's beat so well that you are genuinely impressed with this gentleman's piece of awesome vocal art . It's fun to listen with you. That bad review you got on your voice being annoying was obviously pure jealousy on his part. You took it with grace + pure class. Kudos for your professional echo of his pitch. Love it, thank you!
Cool reaction, check his live performance from Conan and see for yourself
thanks, Raymond
@@ramseyvoicestudio yes,,,,see the live version from Conan..... no autotune...and more powerful then this video
@@CoughHiccup there is actually a single use of autotune in his live performance, and he looked extremely annoyed that they had done that. He doesn't like to use it, like ever.
So one of his or conan's sound engineers used it and he gives a annoyed sideways look at them.
@@ExarchGaming I heard that rumor to. supposedly he had the flu or whatnot that night. But there are still tons of other live performances of him doing it to check out (one of my faves is where he sings it with Myles Kennedy) Myles is another singer who has a high disdain for autotune. You should check out some of his stuff too!
how interesting
Check out the Conan Live version. Note: there is autotune with the live version, but it was done w/o his permission, and the vid was out there too long to undo it. He also had a cold at the time, so the performance was remarkable in spite of the challenges there.
didn't know all that
Don’t even worry about negative comments. People will always find something to be critical of, regardless of what it is you’re doing.
so true
@@ramseyvoicestudio 😘
David has a voice to die for. You have to try "Uninvited Guest"....as good as SOS imho....then followed by "Vengeful One" LIVE at Red Rocks Colorado!! You won't be sorry since you're a vocal coach..... Shows their diversity!!
yes, so I understand
look at the live performance! yes, he does that flawlessly without studio magic. I know, the show techniciens used auto tune - against Davids expressed wish - but still, he can do that for a complete concert...
I believe you
no, David specifically said no auto tune was used in the conan show . he was adamant
He definitely performed it live flawlessly. There was a little bit of auto tune on the conan show but he definitely didnt need it
so I saw
He was sick and Conan insisted. David was fuming after
No mixing he is a professional and hates that, on Conan they auto tuned and when he found out he was not happy, on Conan he had a cold as well, this man is better than you think.
I think he's great, agree on all points
He absolutely pulls it off in live performance - check out Conan performance which he did with a temperature of 103 degrees due to flu!
I've heard that
Thank you for watching one of my favorite performances ever.
My pleasure!
Sad that his voice isnt appreciated abit more since its unique in the music industry. ❤ Good reaction coach! Still waiting for the babymetal - akatsuki. Thank you! ! !
it is unique
I've never commented on a coach before. I've listened to about all of them, You're very good!!
Awesome! Thank you!
Love your reaction. Don’t ever lose the technicality. It’s what makes you unique. And yes, you have perfect pitch. F# minor. (From a classically trained concert pianist.)
You should react to Nightwish - Ghost Love Score live Wacken 2013. There is most versatile singer whos voice will amaze you. There is only fraction what she can do. You wan't regret.
thanks, Daria
@@ramseyvoicestudio Ghost love score was written for Tarja Turunens voice and she is the best!

so I've heard, thanks!
I think was better live, but this version is great too obviously. Glad you finally got around to listening to it :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
( i mean ...how many sounds of silence are there ) that really cracked me up 😂😂
true, but you never know, I never do till I start that music!
@@ramseyvoicestudio no i mean it's true and tha's why that made me laugh lol
thanks, Ahlam
david is a classically trained opera singer... which is crazy for a metal singer... he said this was the hardest song he had ever sang especially from a perspective of anger about how people had failed to heed the warning from the original song... instead of people communicating better all they have done is replace their neon gods “TV” with cell phones
it was a prophetic song
Not an opera singer, nor classically trained.
He was trained as a cantor.
Still rigorous training, but a different style of training.
this song was written by paul simon, sung by art garfunkle, during the late 1960s about the Vietnam war. David Draiman spent the first couple of decades of his life training in the US and Israel to be a cantor, like his world-famous grandfather.
I knew about Simon and Garfunkel, but not about his grandfather
His live version (while having the flue) is also great.
Conan's?
I am extremely surprised that you haven't reacted to Jinjer - Pisces yet, every single vocal coach reaction has been insane on it.
I have it on the list, so many requests I try to honor
Lol yes, make sure you give Pisces a view! You won't regret it ! I think we all need to see that video 😄😄
stay tuned!
You should check out Jinjer-Pisces live session and Geoff Castelucci-cover of Blackbird. Both are amazing
stay tuned in, coming soon hopefully

It's been 3 years, but this MIGHT still interest you.... David doesn't need auto tune. You won't be surprised to hear he works really hard and uses vocal coaches. One of his bandmates during an interview was very sympathetic about the question concerning auto tune and other distortive effects. He said that it's natural to David's voice. It occurs in a couple of their other songs too. He hits this one place in his voice and that's what comes out! One of his vocal coaches suggested that it might have something to do with his facial structure, but the truth is nobody knows, not even David. It just happens. I listened to you talk about how everybody's voice is unique! Here's yet another one to enjoy! I suspect that part of his unique voice is that he started out at a young age being trained as a cantor (Jewish synagogue). I've heard a cantor (my friend's dad). They have a very distinctive WAY of singing. It shows. So, maybe?...... and yet another unsolved mystery with which to occupy our minds instead of being bored!😄(I'm waiting for laundry today)
Great song, David blows it up.❤❤❤❤😊😊😊. Best version❤❤
4:07 did he even spend 1 minute on your channel before judging you?! I love your videos, I truly appreciate the fact that you made long tutorials to explain technical details and so on...Don't let this kind of annoying people bother you...yes just delete them! I don't understand why some people need to undermine and be mean like that it's pissing me off!!!! You are a great teacher and have great voice! Cheers
Thanks so much, Winston, I appreciate it
@@ramseyvoicestudio I discovered you 3 weeks ago, I decided to take it seriously and truly learn to sing. I am training 1 hour everyday with your vocal warm up and pitch exercices. First step "Sing in pitch" ^^ will see the result in a few months!

David would never use auto tune dudes just that good-respect
listen to live version from CONAN show he had a fever at the time and was not happy with his voice but he realy performed live.
so I've heard
Good, intelligent reaction, brother. That voice is immense!!
Glad you enjoyed
I just now found you and am subscribing now.I have no idea about some of the things you talk about and hope I can learn from you.By the way,I love your voice. The comment you shared is from someone who knows less than me(so absolutely nothing)
that's funny Stephanie, Glad you're here
I'm waiting for this, nice.
Enjoy!
Well my love. You most definitely need to check out one of the phenomenal voices on the planet. John Farnham is amazing. The Voice, Age of Reason, basically any song, live or studio, will blow your mind😊😊
Just BTW thats his voice, he can do it live.
thanks for the suggestion
Oh... Matt... :-( I wish you would have done the live version of this song... I typed this before you said you thought some magic had been done... he actually does this song BETTER live... watch the Conan O'Brien version of it....
That's not a really good example tbh. That version has a lot of autotune (and he usually sings it without autotune)
I know, it was a tossup.
@@ramseyvoicestudio The Conan O'Brien version has autotune unfortunately. But he usually sings it without autotune. I find it sad that most suggest the probably only tuned live performance of it. It gives a wrong impression of them. It's also totally out of their "natural habitat" 😄 kinda weird to see them on that show..
yes, I'm glad I went with the one I did, people don't like their celebs to be called out on autotune, but it's not really a bad device in a live situation, no one sings perfectly like that
The live concert version with Myles Kennedy is a great example with no auto tune. David sings this song in concert nearly identical to the studio version.
So in love with your reactions!!! I was hoping to see some Homefree reactions but I see none!? you should 100% react to Homefree! A good starter is Ring of Fire, My Church or Alabama Sampler! Once you react to Homefree, the home fries will follow!!
great, I'm hoping to soon
saying david uses auto tune is kinda fucked when he literally cannot stand auto tune and despises using it in anyway.
I'm going to give you a polite reply despite yours, it is a very small amount of autotune, he did use it and other singers and coaches agree, end of debate (for me)
@@ramseyvoicestudio while it's known that he did in the Live performance (against his wishes and later known to have angered him - as he found out later), my understanding is that he was vehemently against using it in the studio version (as he had more input here). If I'm wrong please do correct me, but that's one primary reason I see everyone recommend the studio release instead of the live.
Dude listen to me not only am I older than you. I'm probably older than your father your voice is not ANNOYING. I just found your Channel you have mad skills anybody that thinks your voice is annoying can just FO.
please keep doing what your doing :)

Hi Matt it is really amazing how quickly you absorb and give analysis on the fly. Have you done Queensryche Take Hold of the Flame?
no, I'll check it out
David is obviously a highly trained vocalist.
so I hear
Nice work. I like the identification of the notes as they were sung. If you want to check out an amazing singer, react to Nightwish Ghost Love Score 2013 Waken Open Air Live.
on the list now!
Yesssss
Draiman does not use autotune!
so I've heard
I love the (2 minutes tutorial) idea. It is educational even though I don't major in Music. I'm just a guy who loves to sing and doesn't play any instrument. In my opinion, I don't prefer using distortion especially when belting cause it doesn't feel comfortable.
This is just a thought guys please don't bash me. Haha. Love from Malaysia.
Please react to Malaysian singers more. Dato Seri Siti Nurhaliza, Ziana Zain, Jaclyn Victor, Misha Omar etc
I certainly wouldn't bash you for that, thanks for the suggestions
I'm sorry, but David Draimon doesn't use autotune! He is classically trained!
so I've heard
David was classically trained as a Cantor and has been singing heavy metal for the last 20 years... From that deep fry, he cleans it immediately!
wow, didn't know that
He was trained as a cantor.
Listen to the live version on Conan and your opinion of the studio magic with fade away. Or attend a concert of theirs. Or listen to the live version where Myles Kennedy joins him on stage.
Regarding the "studio magic", you have to check out the live performance on Conan O'Brien. As others have said, it's even better.
autotune can be very helpful
@@ramseyvoicestudio , David very much dislikes autotune. In every interview that he has done about this song, he has denied using autotune. When he did it live on Conan, the show techs asked him if he wanted a little help, he had been battling the flu. He said, "No." They 'helped' him anyway in a couple of places. He of course noticed this in his 'ears'. I've heard that he was very upset by this and did let the techs know of his displeasure.
Lol David is the lead singer of a hard rock metal band Disturbed so he uses that grit growl voice for like off and on for like two hours without damaging his voice he is that trained. And he doesn't smoke or drink alcohol as to not damage his voice in anyway.
See the Conan Live performance. Flawless!
I believe the Grand daddy of reaction videos is "Pisces" by Jinjer. But, this song is a close second.
Thanks!
I don't think that Disturbed "Sound of Silence* is the granddaddy of vocal coach reactions, it's probably one of the Trifecta of Vocal Coach reactions, the the Granddaddy a vocal coach reactions is " Pisces" by Jinjer. As a vocal coach I feel that you will be totally blown away by the lead singers vocal abilities!
keep watching, Jimmy, it's coming
I love how David chooses to use consonance and not verbs...much nicer
hmmmm
this song is
also available on Conan live performance
Right
There is also the Xfactor Australia performance of it and i think a couple more live performances of it. But as for that grit or distortion that is fully him. If you listen to all of his other songs he is well known for it and has been doing it for 20+ years. He has mastered it to a point that he can move in and out of it very naturally and without forcing it or damaging his vocal chords.
I don't know what that person on Low Notes was talking about. I've seen a few of your videos now, and I think you have a great voice.
Did you ever do the Conan Performance. Much better to react.
I haven't yet
Do it it is amazing
David studied with Melissa Cross to perfect his sustainable healthy grit.
Should take a look at Voiceplay or Home Free. Both acapella groups that are amazing!

very diversely talented
How can you listen to his voice when you’re so busy thinking and talking? Genuine question.
I'm definitely a multi-tasker
Please try Super Vocal version of this song, it's super amazing

When you get to Home Free, I’ll be back.
I will!!
I think the live performance on Conan is just as clean, and perhaps even more moving.
I've heard that, this is the one that was requested by a sub
The issue with that one is it was autotuned. It was done without permission or knowledge of the band and they were pissed.
I actually prefer the Conan to the music video.
If you have not yet viewed Pisces by Jinjer, please can you do a reaction video 😄

How can you react to music without wearing headphones? Don't you miss all the subtleties that just the year does not pick up? Also you cut off The 1st 10 seconds or so of the video which sets up the entire rest of the video
I can hear all the subtleties that I need to. Been training my ears for 10+ ears. When a singer is taking a lesson with me, they're singing in front of me in the open air. I don't have them sing into a condenser mike while I listen through a pair of headphones. Make sense?
This isn't a negative comment, but if you're gonna talk about autotune, even though there isn't very much at all, watch the live version, its arguably better.
I've heard this too
