My 111W-103 was made in 1933. I just gave it to a non sewing belt maker. Came here to look up more info. I was given it from another neighbor that never really used it or forced used it. A son in law of my next door neighor was over when we were putting new flooring in my sewing room and saw it sitting outside. We are in California and he makes sails on the east coast. He tuned it up or me but he said something about hard to set. I know why now. I had not realized it was also missing the knob to adjust presser foot tension. I had gone to an industrial supply and they had a cobbled together manual for these older machnes, so he has a part list but a bit hard to tell which machine. This helps some!
With the proper tools and good penetrant like kroil, the timing belt replacement is a straight forward task that can be completed in an hour or so. Singer made the timing setup easy,they put timing arrows on the shafts. Put the take up arm at the very top of its stroke, line up the arrows, slide on the belt it’s timed….
Your right and this is a skill set that I likely am going to develop this year. My local guy retired and I am going to have to become more hands on with the repair side of these machines. Thank you for the feedback.
@@viadango I have a 111W115 also I love it except quality oem or quality replacement parts are expensive. I haven't replaced the belt its the original I ordered a new oem belt if I ever have to replace it. If you need parts I found a source that has great parts just ask.

I just did the timing belt on my 111W102 , it was fairly easy to do, including the timing setup! Works like new! Next will be a new belt on my 111W101.
Neither belt replacement or hook change is a big deal, lots of information on RUclips for home users to do either and whilst some factory ones may have worked hard many will have been used by hobby and hardly worn in but the good thing is lots of spares and few major problems, great machines for hobby leather workers
I find the stitch length very easy to adjust. You don't use both buttons to adjust it, one is to reset the safety clutch, luckily I've never had to push that one.
Have a question concerning my 111w151 if anyone can help would greatly be appreciated. The bobbin case clasp rubs on the bottom of the slide plate giving me bird nest of the top thread as it makes the loop. Have know idea if there is a way to lower the case or if it had the wrong bobbin case in it when I bought it. Works great with the slide off. Thank you!
Does your machine have a servo motor? You have a lot of speed control with your set up. I just bought a 111W153 at a garage sale. Timing belt looks good. Haven't gotten it going yet to see if the bobbin case/hook is worn....
What motor do you have on yours for such good control (and so quiet)? My 111W155 still has it's original motor, from 1951 so far as I can tell. It's a single speed 1725 RPM American Safety Table Co. (AMCO) 1/3 HP motor with a built in clutch controlled by the pedal, so the motor is always running full speed. Why do I think the motor is that old? Because just the motor alone weighs in at a whopping 60 pounds! (It sure sounds cool winding up to speed though when you first turn it on!)
Can’t speak for the one in the video but for my industrial machines I usually buy an Enduro servo motor off of Amazon that pretty much bolts directly to where the original motor does. Super quiet and very controllable
I have worked with an original motor, but it was on canvas to make tents in a workshop other than my own. The older motors are not only heavy, but learning to "feather the speed" so to speak is a real skill. When you add into that equation working on leather, I think it is a tough job. Not impossible. I am using a modern Servo Brushless Motor on all my machines.
Man fantastic overview learned a lot. Whats the thickest leather youre able to sew with this machine? would it handle a couple layer of 5/6oz or would that be a stretch? thanks
I have sewed at least 10 oz of veg tan. Frankly, I have pushed the machine to the point that I thought it could actually break, but did not. The problem becomes the feed dogs and presser foot lift struggling to feed the material through the machine. It is very important to adjust the presser foot tension to make sure you are not marking the leather up.
I have sewn 2 pieces of 4mm heavy hide leather, I couldn't go thicker as I couldn't fit more under the foot, although I don't recommend lol mine is a 111WSV77 ( Glyndon)

Great review as someone wanting to sew dog collars would you say this machine could handle think polypropylene / nylon webbing
I sew up to 5 layers of heavy weight polypropylene webbing everyday. 111w151 is what we started with.
Absolutely they will sew through a piece of wood or a auto plastic interior piece no problem.

What size motor is appropriate for this model please?
I have a servo brushless motor install. They normally come with a large and heavy clutch motor which is not great for sewing leather.
The clutch motor for a Consew 206 I think will work. My 111W115 has the Singer clutch motor I like it.

The only limiting factor of this machine if running correctly is the lift height. If it will fit under the foot it will sew.
