This time around, I took a train to Jaffna which is located in the Northern part of Sri Lanka. This is by far my most favorite train ride experience in Sri Lanka, despite being the dry landscape which makes it feels very rustic and edgy. I saw ZERO tourists on this train, and as always interaction with locals made it a very memorable experience.

ABOUT ME:
In 2013, I started my solo travel journey, leaving Indonesia in 2016 to become a full-time traveler and RUclips creator. My background in International Relations has fueled a profound interest in exploring different countries. My content focuses on exploring different cultures through the lens of a solo female traveler, aiming to capture real-life interactions and experiences.
My travels kicked off with a five-month trip across Asia, after which I moved to China in January 2017 to work as an English teacher-my first time living abroad. I left China in 2018 to fully commit to creating videos on RUclips, where I share my travels and the cultures I encounter.
Living nomadically since 2016, I settled in England in early 2022 after marrying my British husband, David. Now based in the UK, I continue to travel and share my adventures on RUclips.
Hello everyone, welcome back to another video!
I have recently been getting messages and comments asking why it takes a long time in between uploading videos. By a long time, I mean 3 to 5 days after each video. I guess we are so used to receiving free and available content to consume at a fast speed in this online world. Yet, we neglect, forget and often misunderstand what process goes behind making each video and how long it takes just to edit a video to create a coherent story.
I publish videos earlier for an exclusive preview to Patreon membership. If you wish to join the Patreon family, you can consider supporting through www.patreon.com/syifaadriana. You may also consider supporting this channel through www.paypal.me/asyifaadriana if you think this video has benefited you in some ways. Nonetheless, by not skipping the ads, you have also indirectly supported me to keep creating more videos for you :)
Welcome to our country!! I hope you enjoy our beautiful land!

i am in jaffna sister.
I've been there two times, and each time the dynamic was very different. The first time it was like mid 2010 (or late 2010), where the remnants of war were still there. The roads were still broken due to bomb blasts, no rest-houses and the existing houses still had bullet holes. My second visit was two weeks back, and the road is smooth and SL has developed quite a lot. It's amazing how the soldiers endured in the scorching sun in the war. They were brave, brave souls, indeed.
Syfia you made me cry with joy too. The first time I was in Jaffna was 52 years ago and the last time was this year. The welcome on both occasions was unforgettable. Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka is so lucky that all of Sri Lanka is peaceful now. Our coach got to Jaffna at 3.30 am or 4 am and the hospitality was warm. The boys that greeted us immediately knew that I only spoke singhala and they immediately tried hard to speak singhalese. It was heart warming. I need to learn to speak and understand tamil- the oldest language in the world. Thank you for your amazing filming
vijaya fernando thank you Vijaya for watching this video. I had a very special moment arriving in Jaffna, feeling its raw beauty.
💕
I will teach you Tamil if I get a chance when I come to my motherland.
Srilankan people are really friendly & nice 👍

I left Sri Lanka December 27, 1979. 40 years passed by like yesterday. It’s beautiful country.
I have been to both Nepal🇳🇵and Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 Two of my favourites and the people are just wonderful. Loved the end music !
Omg my tears also came when u started crying.. i hope u will have wonderful adventures in future.. you can go freely in our beautiful country beacuse of the soldiers who sacrificed themselves for the freedom .. its my salute to them .. cuz without them i wouldnt be able to see your beautiful videos about our beautiful country 🇱🇰😍😀❤️
True that!

Totally agree. I almost cried by looking at her crying.

Being a Sri Lankan I have never travelled to Jaffna. You make me going there already. Thank you darling ❤️💐
I travelled to Sri Lanka in 2017 and it is amazing.... love from Bangladesh
ADK De Silva thank you so much. I personally was blown away by Jaffna
Syifa Adriana Highly appreciated. Therima Kasih!
ADK De Silva , Machn I went 1-2 years after the war. Anyone couldn’t speak English or Sinhala and I got the things to done thanks to my tamil speaking sister.
But I went few months ago and lot of people can speak English now. And some shop-owners know sinhala as well.
I can recommend it’s safer than colombo. Bike ekak rent karapn. Van patta ganan.
@@yasiruranaweera3888 yes Tamil people are very intelligent, I'm sinhala BTW!!
I would love to visit this country one day, tears definitely came to my eyes as well

You are the proof that there are still noble and pure hearts. Traveling alone around the world coming from such a patriarchal society also shows us that there is no impossible dream if you are brave enough to fight for it. Thank you for sharing your dream with the world. Take care.
Deeply touched by your burst of emotion, expressing gratefulness to all who support you in your travel Vlog. You're truly a person with a thankful heart ❤️

Loved this video. The people in Sri Lanka are so hospitable Syifa, especially with people like yourself with such a warm smile. Best wishes for a safe and enjoyable journey.
As former Sir Lankan it's really nice to see Sir Lanka through the eyes of a foreign traveler. Thanks for capturing Sir Lanka through your lens Syifa! :)
Thank you for coming Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 🙏 🙏

Ameen but have you been to Singapore?

That journey would have never been possible without sacrifice of our soldiers...so many lives and blood ,beneath under the ground you step..anyway enjoy your journey...as your eyes become wet on the way to Jafna our eyes become wet when we see those lands..Enjoy your days in Sri lanka...cheers
lol your soldiers killed innocent tamil civilians
@@hitchhiker8798 u can interpret the way u like...
hitchhiker terrorist killed so many Sri Lankans. They killed innocent sinhalese, tamils, muslims... You don't know man. We are the generation who born with the war. You have no idea how it feels when you have to live with the fear of life whenever you do your day to day life stuff like going some where in a public transport. Really you have no idea what you are talking about.
AnOunceofConsciousnes Well siad.👍
@@uthpalawijesinghe3970 yes, I remember how civilians used public transport in Colombo in that era. Each member of the same family would use different modes of transport to escape from bomb blasts, for instance, if mum takes the bus, dad would choose the train so that atleast one would be alive for kids.
Syifa you are a breath of fresh air to travel blogs.
Sri Lanka is my home country that I left 46 years ago. Moved to Canada and the USA. Watching your video did bring back fond memories for me too, as we were in Jaffna May 2018. The new railroad system was just opened a few days before. The city was very beautiful. The citizens of Jaffna are proud to showcase their town to the world. You are one gutsy girl to travel the world by yourself. God bless and pray for your safety. You should be proud that you have the opportunity to travel as it gives you knowledge of other cultures and see how people live in many parts of the world. This promotes understanding and nurture how we have to live in peace and harmony as humans. You should pass it on to your family. Sri Lanka’s culture dates back around 2,700 years. Enjoyed your documentaries. Keep up the good work. Mano. W.
Sri Lankan trains are so clean and not crowded at all. I'm in love with this country and can't wait to get the chance to visit. Where you get all these songs Syifa, they're so good and the music is very melodic and gels well with the video. Awesome work as always and I'm jealous as you've got the opportunity to travel the world :)
I'm really appreciate to recommend my country Sri Lanka for visitors.
Thank you so much ❣️

I was planning to visit the north and after watching you its a definite. Keep giving your thoughtful content! can't wait to see your next post.
I really hope more people visit Jaffna. It deserves recognition!
Another great video. Your background music is very fitting and inspiring. I guess it helps you to sustain the path you chose. Uploading your videos takes time. The process that you do to edit is very important. That is what made your videos different, educational, and complete. That also will give me the chance to repeat viewing your previous episode because I see newer perspective each time I watch. Keep on!
Thank you so much Romy. Your comment is so understanding and kind! Thank you for your kind support

Good afternoon Syifa! Following your journeys can bring what are otherwise foreign lands right inside the front room. While at times a train station may be a rather hectic scene, perhaps one of the best ways to enjoy a nation's countryside is to journey by train. Thank you for so freely sharing of your time on this video's train journey. -Bob...
Very nice video and that is a quite a distance of traveling. Thanks for taking us there with you.
Thankyou so much for being who you are through out all your journeys, traveling is not happy and adventurous as most of the vloggers out there show us. Sometimes traveling gives you emotions that can’t explain in words which are blend with nostalgic memories, experiences and etc, thanks for snowing your true emotions in to the camera rather than hiding and being fake. ❤️love your vlogs , so far one of the best Sri lankan vlogs done by a foreigner. Keep it up Syifa. ❤️
Tears of joy. It is such an overwhelming feeling to see your accomplishments. You really built your life on your terms specially coming from an entirely different background. Kudos. Cheers to many more journeys that awaits you. Bon Voyage.

Those very friendly people you met on the train, who invited you to sing songs and took selfies at the Jaffna train station are Sinhalese travelling to the north from the south, probably on holiday. There are several Buddhist archaeological sites in the North. Iranamadu tank, the largest in the North, was built by Dhathusena, it was his son Kashyapa who built Sigiriya - you have already climbed it.
NOOO they r tamils , stop the BS!!!

Nice start to my day watching my favourite vlogger taking us all to Jaffna. I didn't realise how beautiful Jaffna is and there doesn't seem to be much traffic. Enjoying the music too...i thought i detected a Cody Francis track there...one of my favourites which I discovered some time ago because of following you :) You got a bit emotional there and I'm glad you didn't cut that out of your vlog cause it was 'happy and grateful emotional' for the journey that brings you happiness, and we are glad to be on this journey with you.
