Hey Syifa Adriana, Welcome to Sri Lanka. Though I am a Sri Lankan I enjoy watching your Sri Lanka visit vlogs.. you are such a great bold solo traveller. And a very pleasant presenter. Glad to watch HD quality videos like this. Keep travelling. Be safe too
Wow!!! You climbed all the way up that stairway to heaven :). The view was breathtaking. But i think the highlight of this video was to see the look of pure ecstasy and joy on your face as you rode the tuk tuk. Lol! You're concern for the elephant and love for animals is noticeable. You're bf did a splendid job of editing the video. That was another enjoyable vlog. Thank you.
That’s so true Terence. The ecstasy actually came from the climbing part, as well as the tuk tuk riding! So so so fun. I loved the tuk tuk riding in itself, hoping to do it in an extended series of travel one day. Happy new year to you! Havent said it personally
8:33 You say that it is a beautiful color. It is due to some geography stuff which I’ve learnt at school yet can’t remember now :) Yet it has a nice legend attached to it. In our literature, we have a mythical king named “King Raavana” and Sigiriya rock is considered to be his palace/fortress. That nice, almost vertical shape of that side of the rock was happened due to a slash by the sword of King Raavana. King Raavana story is mentioned in “Raamaayanaya” book.
I visited this amazing place in the 1960's, well before it became overrun with tourists. There was no entrance fee, in fact the only building was a little kiosk selling drinks and refreshments. The climb to the top was much more difficult, in places it was just ladders strapped to the side of the rock with no supports or protection. You could say it is now like a stroll in the park Ha Ha! From what I can remember the palace on top of the rock was not as visible as it is now. I also remember that there were some enterprising locals who had set up a stall at the wall paintings and were asking for payment if you tried to take a photograph! Certainly a highlight of my visit to Sri Lanka (or Ceylon as I knew it) along with the visit to Kandy and the Temple of the Tooth. Thank you for your video.
I do publish once a week these days as I have 3 videos remaining from the series. I went to Sri Lanka in August to September :D thank you so much, God bless to you too Anton!
Many many thanks for sharing this excellent video as well as for your efforts. Wishing you a happy and prosperous new year 2020.as a tuk tuk driver,it was a great experience is not it?
Thank you so much Subrata Nath for always watching. Driving tuk tuk was one of the highlight of my travel :D Happy new year to you too, wishing you nothing but a happy and joyous of 2020!
The rock has been overpriced deliberately to reduce number of tourists. Most of the time, only the people who are interested in archeology will find the value of it. Sad to say, you missed the museum and so many places when you're coming down or it was not in the video. Tuk-tuk driver is a nice guy 👌👌👌
I understand the logic behind this, Yasiru. However, for a $30 fee, there is no flyer or even sign explaining the history of this for visitors so it's difficult for regular visitors to understand this without having to hire local tour guide, which will cost another money. Does it make it sense? As a tourist, we all not always have the knowledge of everything, sometimes even the energy to study every history or the access to guidebook or internet while on the road :-) I didnt have enough time to explore the museum as I was timed by my tuk tuk driver.. Thank you for watching this video!
I agree with Syifa here, for the $30 at least they could have given a booklet or placed more sign boards to guide tourists. Even for locals it's very helpful as many have no idea about the history of specific places of the rock. I have been to Sigiriya with a local guide and what I learnt about the technology used back in the day for the palace was mind blowing. This is something Sri Lankan tourist board can improve more.
as some have quoted i would suggest "Please do research about the "Sigiriya' before you visit..otherwise as anybody you would feel why should i pay this much climb a rock and watch some ruins making my feet so tired..Mirror wall is where you see the world's oldest written poems..some of them stated mirror wall had sigiriya frescoes consisted of 500 odd damsels .and during the rainy season you could view some of the fountains below the rock are still functioning
