My ex husband's family had an antique organ similar to the one you have. Those "risers" were for candles to sit on as the organ was intially used before electricity was invented and common. The one in my husband's family belonged to a grandfather who was a traveling musician. He played mostly secular music in concert halls and saloons!
I love your style…..and your awesome thriftiness. So great how you deconstruct an organ!!!!!! Wowzfaz. Very cool. I look forward to seeing more of those videos. Please share.
That organ is stunning! What an amazing find! Those pieces you showed were used to hold candles to provide light for the pianist to see the sheet music.
I love that people know that and have let me know what they were for. I really like knowing the history of the items I use in my projects. Thanks for the comment Brigette!
Love al of your projects Dawn. You always find the greatest items when you thrift and that organ is gorgeous. I would have never thought to flock those birds.
Thank you so much Barbara!! I loved those beat up birds so much. Kinda glad they were in bad shape so I could get them so cheap...and no one else wanted them LOL!!!
Dawn, your creative mind never ceases to amaze me! The candle / cloche holders are stunning, and I can't wait to see how you use the other parts of the organ! Love how you showcased the poster....it happens to be one of my favorite old movies! Have a great holiday weekend!
Dawn, you did it once again!!! You are the master of recreating items and making them into something completely different but always beautiful and stunning. Thank you so much for joining together with our shabby Chic sisters. This was a lot of fun. Have a beautiful weekend my friend😊
Spread your dry flocking on wax paper, lay another piece of wax paper on top and use a brayer to roll out the lumps. Fold your wax paper in half to slide the flocking back into your jar.
Those two round things off the organ were to hold possible first, candles and later, oil lamps to light the songbook so organist could see how to play.
Amazing how you restored those crows and how you turned those candle holders and the glass top into a bird cage. You're definitely an expert in what you do. I hope you get thousands of views 😂
Exactly!! Did you know that many of these paints are actually made in the same factories then they put the appropriate labels on them for the different companies?
The two pieces from the organ were candle or oil lamp holders so they could see to play the organ after dark, most early Victorian homes didn't have electricity, so of course they used candles, oil lamps and firelight to see.
Dawn that organ was from before the turn of the century. And those two pedestals were to hold kerosene lights so you could read your music in the evening.
Thanks Terri! And no, I didn't purchase the organ, it was free. If you go onto Facebook Market Place you and search pianos or organs you will see many listed for free. Have a great day!!
I dont have any of the chalking stuff & instead of buying it, I wonder if the tons of sidewalk chalk and blackboard chalk I have left over from when my son used to color the sidewalk would work if I used a an old cheese grater on the chalk sticks to make chalk dust or whatever?? Hmmmm....Lol! Do you think that is the same texture??
Yes it does work! You can grate it then add water to break it down even more. I have also bought colored carpentry chalk to use as well Em! I definitely think you would get the same texture!! Have a great night!

My daughter just bought me a quart of color place and a gallon of gladden paint, the gladden was $14, the quart was $5, at Walmart. It was great.
Exactly!! Did you know that many of these paints are actually made in the same factories then they put the appropriate labels on them for the different companies?

Thanks Jessica. The educated responses to my question have been fabulous! I appreciate your comment very much!!

Clever woman 😍
Thanks Deborah!! Makin' me blush!
😊
Thanks Clint!!
I think the organ peices were for oil lamps.
I think you're right Carol!! That seems to be what everyone is saying. I love knowing the history of the items I use in my projects!
These are for oil lamps because, at the time, there was no electricity.
Thanks Kim!!!
The pedestals were for kerosene lamps.
Thanks Linda!!
As old as that organ is, i would surmise they are candle holders.
Makes good sense Melba!!

A group of crows is called a “murder” so the framed murder poster next to the crows is PERFECTION!!
You are right! That is what they are called, I totally forgot that! You are a genius Kandy!!
platform to hold gas lanterns while someone trying to see while playing the organ
Thanks Les!!
