anyone else vaguely remember this as a kid and feel like an old man trying to piece back the memories?
PsyQo Tea me
Yep! I'm 29 and remember how great the game looked but couldn't even get past the second level because my kid brain could not compute. Remember renting it at a movie rental place in a grocery store when that was a thing xD.
Haha ya man!
My childhood buddy had this and let me and my brother borrow it for a few days.
I never finished it.
me!
Defo me
One of the most stylish beat em up games of all time. Definitely made me jaleous as a Nintendo fanboy in the past.
Oddly I never found this fun for a Genesis beat em up, not with the Streets of Rage games around.
And a puzzle game to boot
This was one of my favorite beatemups of the generation, preferring it over conventional stuff like Streets of Rage and Final Fight. I wish we could have seen Comix Zone's formula explored further.
@@ichijofestival2576 are you serious?
Yep
this deserves a movie, it sure as hell would be awesome to see one made for it.
A game remake or sequel. Maybe Turner's grandson or a completely new character sucked into an old comic book.
I was picturing Chris Hemsworth to play Turner and Gary Oldman to play Mortus.
It could be perfectly a series
@@aleksandarrotar710 For some reason I'm picturing Channing Tatum. Brian Bosworth would have been the perfect choice if it was made during the 90s.
Hmmm, nice..
I was playing this on the switch, can't believe how hard this game is. Looks cute and cartoony, but these enemies pack a wallop!
I remember this game. good times
Yessir
Me to BRO
Same
Finally completed this today, Christmas day 2018, after first playing it as a 6 year old in 1995. Seriously needs a sequel!
I beat this in 2017 on my ps4....felt soo good because I could never beat the very last part when I was younger it used to infuriate me
I remember beating it a couple times at least as a kid, but now I've come back to play it again and am having a way harder time, it's awesome.
@@derekt9095 facts people dont realize how hard this game is to beat
beat it on 2024 but used quicksaves :D
i heard that its got to be the film adaptation based on video game announce! it should wait for 30th anniversary or over a year! this can be live action and animation motion comics like spider-man into the spider-verse!
This was described by a friend like “looks like a comic book moving” and “is the 90s distilled” he was absolutely right oh my god.
one of the most bad-ass and hardest games to come out for the genesis
Graphics are pretty good too for a Megadrive aka Genesis.
Yeah, but compared to the ooze which was made by the same people it seemed easier. Thank god >.
journeyman
👍 Agree
It was also the last game to officially come out on this system.
The amount of art and humour in this is amazing
"OH YEAH!"
"What the #@!? was that?"
God i love this game, such nostalgia ;__;
When i first played this game when i was younger I was confused on how there were curse words in the game.
@@jcharmaine1 same! I thought it was so mature and cool!
@@raymondjohnson5459 Yeah!
I like how Sega was in the intro on this one so 90s love it
the most ingenious game in Genesis, its developers were captivated in their theme, for it was incredible.
When I was 6 years old I used to play this video game with my dad. Now I am 20 and just by seeing this I can travel to that time. The soundtrack, the rat, the stages... everything looks the same way I remember it. This video makes me remember unforgettable moments with my dad, thank you very much for uploading it.
Me too, and I'm 19 now
Ah, the memories. The soundtrack for this game made me realize video games had awesome music of their own. I'll always appreciate it that much more.
While I don’t really game much these days, but damn, the creativity and artistry in this game is incomparable. I’d happily play a sequel or spiritual successor to this title.
Some of the finest videogame music ever.
I remember the SEGA game I had came with the soundtrack on CD, it was by a band called Roadkill.
It really is. The OST for level two is my ringtone.
I was stunned when I found out how to beat the last boss with massive damage and enough time to save Alissa. That lever on the right isn't for show, that controls the jet engine that can deal out massive explosive damage. A few well timed hits with it and the baddie is history. This is really an adventure puzzle brawler when you really think about it and one of a kind. A true swan song for the Genesis.
One of the most original and cool games i have ever seen/played and back then i was a real nintendo fan(friend of mine had de Genesis).
But the gameplay, the comic style, the hand drawing stuff and more...just awesome
Even the way the dude says: see yah is
Such a good game. Memories for real. The soundtrack was ahead of its time. Made you feel like you were really in the game
One last masterpiece for the SEGA Genesis before giving up to fifth gen consoles.
I remember accidentally coming across this game in the Sonic collection disc. I WAS IN LOVE WITH IT.
I just said I’m in love, literally 😍
That’s where I played this game then!! Although, was that for the PC or sega?
I played this on PC back in the day.
@@sambarrett1432 For PS2.
@@sambarrett1432 it did come in Sega Smash pack 2 for PC. That was my intro, then I picked it up for the system itself
I LOVED this game as a kid. I remember I discovered a "secret" move by holding I think it was..A and C? on the controller. You would lose health but tear a page from the background and turn it into a paper airplane projectile. XD
There is also more than one ending depending on if you save the girl or not.
3 endings actually when its game over
Man I miss this game. The variety of moves Sketch had was amazing. It felt awesome to find a new one.
I was 9 years old when I played this game. I felt exactly how I felt at the time, the feeling of the house I lived in. Good times...
I used to play this game when i was younger. I LOVED IT
Jillian The Great why
@@dracojensei1141 are you questioning nostalgia?!
HOLY CRAP. All the time I thought my memories were about Streets of Rage, but the images just did not fit. It actually was Comix Zone!!!
As a sketch artist myself this would be like a dream come true..... as long as it's not on fire. Is this like a comic book version of Mannequin, except you can go run and walk from page to page, creating new ideas, new places, and new characters as you go along, even create yourself a muse if you want to. That alone is the power of art, never underestimate it, and never take it for granted. ✏📕
Thank you very much for not skipping the talking bits of this game. I remember this being my favorite game on Sega, next to Streets of Rage. Thank you for making this video.
I remember playing this on Sega channel. Ahhh. The good old days...
This game was awesome and never forgotten it!
Being able to raise your legs whole hanging from a pipe...pushing a crate by standing on it and walking into a wall...this game was ahead of the times with the mechanics
Can tell the game soundtrack heavy influenced by grunge music now looking back on it first song sounds like nirvana.
Yeah, this game easily went for a hard rock style
Sadly the Genesis sounds like metallic farts.
@@Kyo.11 mostly. The Mega Drive didn't have the greatest soundchip, but talented composers really managed to get the most out of the sound hardware.
The time when SEGA developed good games. So sad they didnt made a sequel.
Seemed prime for one too but i don't think it sold well. Nobody else I knew even played this game
Well up until 1995, Sega of America made their own good games alongside Sega of Japan and Sega of Europe. Then they had to work on a 3D Sonic game that never came to be because of Sega of Japan's constant meddling and impossible demands. SOJ ended up making their own 3D Sonic with Sonic Adventure and SOA was disbanded due to infighting and people getting too sick to work or outright sick of their jobs. If it weren't for SOA, Sonic 2 wouldn't even be a thing or Sonic 3 and Knuckles, or Vectorman, or Ecco The Dolphin, or Kid Chameleon, or The Ooze...
@@SgtSegavector man goated 😭😭😭😭
This game combines two of my favorite genres together. Video games and comic books. Good times.
Could you imagine a remake of this game? It be amazing!😱
yep..these ideas!
not short like this💪💪
Nope they wouldn't do it right
why does everyone want the gems remastered man they will just get ruined. There was a time and a place for them they should be left there
Honestly this 16 bit quality really fits the theme of the game, i wouldnt like it any other way than this
They did on gba
one of the best games on Sega. Nostalgy of my childhood :D
this game was kinda hard!
Yep I agree with you I tried my best but I give up
+K'Maya Smith. if u want there are cheats that can help u
Justin Tahair Really?
I miss this game
Richard Canipe I agree I trying to its episode 1 I can't beat
Back in the day that dude is what we would refer to as "RAAAAD!"
Finally found it!! when i was a kid I never get past that green-jelly thing at stage 2, the game so hard.
I'm at the final boss with no health this game hard as hell
The music is just so fucking epic.
I think the word you're looking for is "terrible"
Gotta love that 90s grunge sound!
it is awesome, forget those others. Probably got paid by nintendo
Yup I liked it, thats the music from my childhood
@@volkerkossi no we just have actual good taste
Esse jogo é uma obra de arte, cada parte trabalhada com carinho. Hoje em dia só se vê o 3D fazendo todo trabalho, com movimentos mecanizados, mesma coisa em alguns desenhos...
played this shit back in the late 90s on sega channel! such a badass game.
Short game but damn did I love it. Wasn't anything else like it on the Genesis. Such amazing design and art direction. Combat was really satisfying too.
I was 11 when this came out. Oh the memories ^^.
I could never make it past the creepy flying guy with the long nails
I was 10 and made it to the end once Maybee twice but couldn't save the girl before drowning. The nails guy was tough as hell until u memorized his moves
I always start laughing at the part whenever Sketch smells his shoe
Yeah his idle animation. lol Or how about when you pause the game and he says SEGA after a few seconds?
@@SgtSega Huh? Never realized that.
I completely forgot about this amazing game. I wasn't allowed to buy it but I insisted on renting this...several times.
I had played this game for like 5 years before entering High School. 12 years later, my little brother just got his Sega Genesis and this one of the games!!! GOD! I feel like I'm an eight year-old boy playing this game after school using our family computer!
This game is hard as fuck, and you make it seem so easy! :D
true
LMAO!!!
Salvatore Endboss Truuu
Man...I remembered playing this on my first gen PSP back when I was 12 years old....Jesus man....Time flies.
How are you doing nowadays?
I just realized that the discordant sounds in the Sega intro are supposed to be a guitar being tuned. Cool!
23:25 I haven't heard that soundtrack in over 20 years!! Wow.....Fun game with awesome tunes! I miss this game!
Well done Turner!
OH YEAH!! *fist pump*
You right!
What the !#&@ was that?
@@MajorLinkGaming I remember what I was a kid I was playing this in the Sega Genesis collection on the PS2 I was wondering what did he say that Sega censored
Turner: can't you say anything different?
I can't believe I thought this game was so hard when I was little. It's literally just fighting the same 5-6 enemies with the same 3-4 attack moves.
It was hard and still is. Dude makes it look easy asf cuz he has cheats on. I mean, he doesnt even take any dmg when the enemies block his attacks or hits them. Ofc it looks easy
I was 10 back then. Now I am 27. ((( And they call me old
I hear you bro haha!
+timurgepard Dude you should be almost 30 by now lol.
+EricWilke1141987 he is almost thirty.
Legions and legends
I realllly need to pay more attention lol.
+timurgepard same dude... i wonder, so much common do have ppls around the world in such... little things! Screw politicans and governments, that separate us!
Some games really show the decade they came from (the 90's), like Sketch and Alissa's hairstyle, clothing and sayings like "See ya"
Man I can tell you have played the hell out of this awesome game... You're hella good..... nice job dude...or dudette !
All time favorite game of my childhood :D Man I loved playing this over and over, the soundtrack and everything was just way ahead of its time! :)
My Dad just died on my birthday November 16, 2023, I remember him playing this game when I was younger ❤😢 memories
This game was ahead of it is time, today I turned 40 years old, but this video takes me back to in time a years ago, when I was teenager. I miss thats days too much.
This is one of the best games (IMO) that ever came out on the Genesis...
Me beating this game as a kid felt like I literally saved the world, what a rush! Probably got me hooked on gaming since then.
I have been looking for this game for the last 15 years. :D Vaguely remember the details.... I am so happy! Good memories!
One of the best Genesis games :)
I played this on sonic mega collection plus for ps2
Me too. That was when I was young. I also played this on SEGA Genesis Collection for the PSP.
How did you unlock it? I've had that game for years and didn't knew about it. I got the ooze instead.
@@HOMBRERAYA I believe you had to have a saved data from sonic heroes.
This has got to be one of the most stylish games I've played.
As a kid, this game was the whole world to me. Here i am, 34 plus years, with two kids and a wife wondering how this thing kept me glued to a tv screen for days...this life😂😂
so many good memories with this game
Спокойно, тихо, уверенно. Красивое прохождение игры. Именно так я люблю проходить ее сам.
Why did the rat always meow like a cat XD
The best part are Turner's interactions and dialogue with his own drawings...
I barely memorized this game but that sewer fight scene made me remember
I love this game. It's like a beat em up mixed with a fighting game, all with a mindblowing aesthetic and stylization. My favorite Genesis game (yes, even above Sonic 2 and 3).
Great game awesome music and very addictive and challenging gameplay. I wish they would make a sequel. and Sketch's first line in the game is WTF! hhaha!
This game is a hidden gem that's worth to have
I showed this game to my friend the other day. My friend really isn't interested in old games like this. But he audibly said "HOLY SHIT THIS IS SO COOL." I guess it just shows how creative and unique the game is. It was really ahead of its time.
Still got the Genesis and Cartridge on this game :D
Awesome Sega classic.
These games still make me feel like buying sega megadrive/genesis again. Alien soldier, comix zone, bare knuckle, sonic the hedgehog, jurassic parc, many many and many cool games
Ricky- Pascal FreeHand Nzoni bruh Jurassic Park is beast!
the first about 30 seconds of music from the first level have stuck with me for over 20 years.
found this game by googling 'give me the respect I deserve' lol
I just got this game it is great takes some time to figure it out I kind of wish there was a part 2 to this or that Sega made more like this
when I first played this game I was 7 and I played it on the Sonic Mega Collection Plus and I've had very vague memories about it ever since and I just found it and it makes me happy
I love playing this game on the Sega collections that were on the PS2 and PS3!
I love this game, but I've only beaten it once. I feel like a lot of the charm wears off by the third level, so I'm partly glad it's relatively short in that respect. I love re-playing te first two levels every now and again though.
5:30 it was so easy to fall in by accident
Yep especially if u accidentally do a combo on the guy at the ledge
i have just relived my youth thankyou so much.i NEVER completed this game it was too hard for me back then
15 years later and this game just popped into my head 😂
i remember this game well, 90s.....
Does anyone remember the first edition of this game being sold with an audio CD of a band actually covering the music? Like, essentially an instrumental grunge alt rock album?
What beautiful years it was.
I remember playing this with my mates right after school at home, it was such a badass game. This and the earthworld jim
This may be the most 90's game.
I'm just finding out about this game and the concept and gameplay look great. this could definitely be big today.
Holy shit, even now the sound is amazing, one of the last games of Sega, fantastic, great memories
I have been looking for this game for over 20 years! I vaguely remember playing it in my cousin's PC during the late 90s when I was a kid. I forgot the actual name later. I only remembered the word Comix. I am glad I found it.
brings back memories...memories of never getting past the second part, thus turning this game off and playing Sonic 2 haha - this was was a lil too old for me at the time- my older brother and cousin would play it a lot, but they would struggle too.
"Your kung-fu is good" Childhood😎
crazy how nobody though in this brilliant idea of being in an actual comicbook for a kickass Spider-Man or X-Men game at that time
That was a great trip down memory lane. Thank you
this game was effin great but hard as shit still loved it though
I like how you held back swearing for the F-word, but just left shit in there.
Jay Bomaye you seem like a nice person.
