@@Turbotefthat’s the funny thing, because SEGA DID try making Vectorman 3 on the SEGA Saturn, but Blue Sky Software’s friendship with SEGA ended before the game’s development could even come close to completion. Another could be how the Saturn failed where the N64 & Sony PlayStation succeeded. Let’s also not forget that SEGA didn’t have much third-party support, especially during the release of the Dreamcast. Since the Saturn & Dreamcast failed miserably, where the N64, PS1, PS2 & original XBox thrives on for years to come, SEGA ultimately decided it was high-time to turn to game development instead of console development. Saying that, though, Vectorman 3 never saw the light of day outside of some demo footage of what the game would’ve been like in its early stages.
This is one of my favorite games while I was growing up and still is. If indeed this could be remade or just continued, with better graphics, harder levels and maybe multiplayer options it would be the MUST HAVE game for me.
It's that feeling of "I've never played a game like this" that makes Treasure games so unique and fresh. Some people like learning new ways to play and some just write it off, both are right for their own. Anyone that doesn't give Alien Soldier a chance is missing out, unless they just don't like Sprites or action games. Wish I knew what game TREASURE is coming out with next, getting tired of all the re-releases, and I've beaten Sin and Punishment 1&2 on Hard. Want more Treasure.
This is such an odd comment. Vectorman isn’t a Treasure IP, but it has a fair bit in common with Alien Soldier, at least in terms of lush animations, multi jointed Sprite bosses, and the obvious run and gun gameplay. I dig Treasure games as much as the next guy, but this is a Vectorman video. Haha.
Not just graphics but music as well. It makes donkey kong look like a childish game made for small kids. 😅 DK was also a great game but the thrill this game with these incredible graphics and music gave me was unbelievable.
UnderBridge, exactly. Because Nintendo was like..."processing power? Eh we don't need that to move around lots of sprites, or more animation or anything...". Hilarious, to release a machine 2 years after the Genesis, and 3 years after the PC-Engine, and to be behind in most ways other than color palette and mode 7. Still love it though but should have been better.
Stream, and even then, Starfox uses the fx chip which dramatically increases the system processing power to run the game. Whereas Vectorman runs normally on stock Gen hardware.
+Major 0086 Those are my favorite ones two, only the laser beam was the bounce off walls version. I think he calls it Voodoo Shot, at least that's what I hear :D
I loved Vectorman and was happy to get them on the sonic collection game (also Phantasy Star 2&3) but Vectorman was ahead of its time and I'm surprised it never got that big.Be nice to see a open world Vectorman which would be cool but will never happen
@MichelleObama isAman Earthworm Jim 3D is a really different/unique animal than what a Vectorman 3 would be. I don't see them as all that comparable. Earthworm Jim was at a time where games were still transitioning over to 3D, and people were trying to put 2D behind them. Not to mention the shit tone of higher up interference caused the game to really fall into failure. The game was good at one point, the people working on it were happy with how it was turning out, and so were the people that they showed it to. The problem is, then they were told to make changes more, and more until the vision they had, and the gameplay that worked were gone completely, leaving what we got. Vectorman 3 would be a completely different scenario. Vectorman already skipped his awkward 3D days with that cancelled "Halo-looking" version we never got, which... I'm mixed about. On one hand, I HATE what they did to Vectorman. On the other, the people that got preview copies of the game at the time praised the AI so much that I feel sad we'll never get to see how good of a game it would have been, even if as a Vectorman game specifically it would have sucked. Point being, 3D games are well understood, now, and I feel SEGA understands things better now than back then in regards to honoring visual styles. Vectorman would look better now than he ever could have back then, but gameplay would rely on who SEGA picks to develop it. It might not be likely we get a new game, but if we did, it wouldn't be like Earthworm Jim 3D, I can say that much.
The nostalgia just from hearing the menu music is unreal. I remember playing this on Gamecube with Sonic Gems Collection. 7 year-old me had no idea what it was, but it didn't matter, I was hooked.
2022, I suddenly remembered this game. It's been over 16 years since I played it.. maybe more.. I never git far and now I'm watching a video of who could've been me at that time. Being alive is so fucking weird and the internet is amazing XD
I hate being the guy replying to a several year old comment, but I just had to in order to say I really agree with you. I just recently beat the first game, which while a GRUELING process towards the end, I always had that motivation to see the end. I wanted to beat the crap out of Warhead, which... Yeah, that was not exactly a fun final fight, but I felt accomplished. Vectorman 2.. Well, I'll say it still looks stunning, it controls the same, as expected, and the title screen is more cohesive, and easier on the eyes. Other than that? It's lacking a lot of what I loved about the first one. Vectorman is a trash delivery orbot that delivers garbage, and sludge to the sun to dispose of it. While he's gone two orbots seemingly malfunction, and stupidly weld a bomb to Raster's body, presumably during a maintenance check, or repair, and create a tyrannical overlord intending on killing the humans when they return, with Vectorman the only one unaffected, and left to do what he's best at. Clean up the mess. You get this from the beginning with that charming slideshow, and bumpin' tune in the beginning. You know where you are, who you play as, what happened, and what your motivation is. You're on Earth, you're Vectorman, Raster went crazy from a bad judgement call of other orbots, and you need to defeat him. You go across Earth seeing what he did to the place. It certainly doesn't look like Earth, anymore, but less in the sense there's garbage everywhere, but more there's all sorts of strange structures everywhere. That makes you feel more invested seeing what he's done to the planet in his madness. Finally getting to Warhead, who unfortunately doesn't exactly look like his cutscene version I came to realize, and beating him is not easy, not exactly the most fun fight, but beating him feels rewarding. Vectorman 2. Well, by the main menu it looks like it involves a Volcano, so I expected an interesting story of what was going to happen next. I got Vectorman delivering some trash on his barge, and turning on some tunes while dancing in his seat a bit. Good start, shows how despite looking pretty intimidating he can just sit back, and have a bit of fun on a long trip like the rest of us. then a missile comes out of nowhere, hits the barge, and you're thrust downward into.. Space.. Worms..? Jellyfish things? Giant mutant snails, all of these weird organic things you're now fighting on a planet you know nothing about, and don't even get a proper introduction to. Not to mention, while the levels were still pretty to look at, they are DARK. Vectorman was so colorful, bright, and only started getting darker the closer you got to Warhead, and even then Warhead's area was still pretty bright with all the purples. Heck, one of the bonus stages is a multicolor, tornado, disco room with a spinning head laser thing. Even the brightest level in Vectorman two I've seen only has red, and orange in it, everything else being black. The game's visual style got lost, and while it doesn't need to be BLINDINGLY bright like the title screen, that colorful style should have been kept. There was no real story introduction that got me pumped every time I start the game so I know the motivation, and the levels are so dark that I find myself having trouble navigating where I'm going. The game is probably just as good as the first in gameplay, and visually it's still a great game, but I just can't call it a great sequel compared to the first game. A good game, more than likely, but not a great sequel.
@@ToaKoran The ending of the game makes it pretty clear it was rushed, maybe because it was released somewhat late into the genesis's life. The first Vectorman had a graphically impressive final battle, a conclusion to the story, a display of all the enemies and bosses, and the devs even had fun by putting portraits of themselves in the credits. In Vectorman 2 I bet that it only took them a couple of hours to whip up the ending custscene with just the "victory" text. Not to mention the repetitive levels. It's sad knowing that this game had the potential to be just as great if they were given more time/resources to flesh it out. I am a fan of the dark aesthetic though, but it could've been executed better. I'm guessing they felt pressured to change up the style so it didn't feel like a rehash considering it was made in the same engine as the first game.
@@Alesan99 So they didn't even have fun with the credits like the first game? That's a shame, seriously. I liked the end credits in the first game quite a bit, getting to see the (often ridiculous) names of the enemies you fought was fun as a reward. Probably not much of one if you had the manual, which I'd assume listed off enemy names, as well, but still by all means a fun bit of info for the end. I also loved the Dev portrait inclusion, a fun addition you don't even see in modern games, anymore. Heck, I especially loved hearing all the Vectorman sound bytes in the files that he shockingly never uses when you're playing. - Vectorman 2 by all means sounds extremely "slam on the press, push it out" in comparison. Even the game over screen, I've come to realize, is just... Confusing? Underwhelming? I've seen a picture online of a battered Vectorman reaching up towards a light desperately, and I've always assumed it was the game over screen for either the final boss of Vectorman 1, or the death screen for the second game. Nope, not looking like it given the death screen for the second game is a giant, alien spider bug thing laughs at you while Vectorman does the victory dance, and then just kills him. Even the game over screen feels wrong, I don't even feel motivation to keep going after seeing that, let alone the levels that just feel too dark, and are just so badly-designed that you can't even see enemies below you most of the time by crouching due to platforms being too high, so you ALWAYS have to make leaps of faith into enemies you're almost guaranteed to be hit by. - Visual appeal is subjective, you prefer darker levels, I prefer brighter ones, so I feel like the best solution would be to have a good balance between brighter levels, and levels in darker areas, but you still don't need to squint to figure out what you're looking at half the time. I also honestly want to see more done with surrounding environments for puzzles, because I noticed in the second game there's a bug that changes Vectorman's color when it hits you, but doesn't do anything for you as far as I can tell. Imagine needing to get hit by a bug, and become a specific color of orbot to open a secret door to a good power-up, or health extension. Little things like that rewarding outside-the-box thinking would be great if they ever bring this bot back, though revivals are another conversation entirely. It's just such a damn shame what happened to this second game, especially since I held off playing it until I beat the first one, only to be so disappointed.

I have a hard time thinking of a more explosive Boss filled Run and Gun Shooter of the 16 bit era, I may be wrong but I think Alien Soldier was some sort of APEX of Creativity and Action in Gaming History. Arcade Action may not hold much meaning now days, but back then, if an original home console game out gunned what could be found in a coin-op, it was like finding real evidence of Big Foot in gaming.

I remember the VERY FIRST time I played this game. My brother sat and watched me play thru it in less than an hour. We were both astonished that it was so short. Still a great game back then!
Most games back then could be beaten in an hour or 2 if you were good at them. The length came from the difficulty and having to replay levels over and over again from a lack of space on cartridges I believe.
BEAUTIFUL GRAPHICS AND SOUND! Man they don't make like they used too. Now this gets compared ALOT to DKC, but why? Does one being great make the other worse, no it doesn't. Gimmie a retro classic any day over all of todays shooters!

Now that I’m ol-DER, I THINK about shit like this a GREAT number of TIMES looking back at CLASSICS like THIS one!
I used to play this game ~12 years ago...man im still impressed by its style
I love the soundtrack of this game it is awesome
VECTORMAN: aww man that main orb prez became evil, mindfux errbody cept me who was doin muh job, well we can't have this, boom, dead warhead, yay humans
VECTORMAN 2: WAIT WHO da fack SHOT MY SHIP?! WTF?? BUGS AND ANIMALS?!?! 2 HEADED TUMOR SNAKE?! ize A SPACESHIP!! dAAAAAMN DAS A BIG SPIDER!!!
uhhhhhh
neverthless.... i played it again... again.. and again :)
Awe man great memories. These were the type of games when you were younger and you passed the controller to your big brother to pass it for you
UGH I remember my first day getting this the highest I got was stage 17, loved this game so much. had both of them too, this game needs a reboot
I remember the VERY FIRST time I played this game. My brother sat and watched me play thru it in less than an hour. We were both astonished that it was so short. Still a great game back then!
thefrostedchicken heaped up with games!!!
Most games back then could be beaten in an hour or 2 if you were good at them. The length came from the difficulty and having to replay levels over and over again from a lack of space on cartridges I believe.
This was my favorite Vectorman game.
My first sega game that i owned...Memories...:D
BEAUTIFUL GRAPHICS AND SOUND! Man they don't make like they used too. Now this gets compared ALOT to DKC, but why? Does one being great make the other worse, no it doesn't. Gimmie a retro classic any day over all of todays shooters!
miamimagicians i found that comparison as stupid as genesis vs SNES. both games are great.
miamimagicians
Not TF2. 😡
it’s the pre-rendered graphics that makes people compare the two
I like Vectorman's voice better in this game. This is a bit embarrassing, but I never made it passed Scene 3 in Vectorman 2. The level layout was just too confusing.
He sounds so badass
@@balaclavatheslidegod1469badassery does not conflate with personality, which Vectorman had a lot of in the first game. Here, he sounds like your average robot you’d see in a film.
this game was ahead of its time ♡
SexyVixen1011 wayyyyy. If they remake it, I hope it’s still in 2D. Otherwise it’ll lose its charm.
Este juego me lo regaló mi abuela hace no se cuanto . Aún a mis 34 y cln varios juegos de PS4 aun recuerdo la frescura de juegos como este . Saludos de Córdoba Argentina
Vectorman 3 for next gen?
Derek yep there is 3 version
Sonic 564772
Where?
Nowhere. It was cancelled just after the Sega Genesis died out. I had read about it on unseen64's website. Kinda unfortunate, as Vectorman 3 had some really nice concept art. Don't believe what SonicAndAshuro999 says. He/she most likely didn't do research on it.
@@abomasnow4 Sighs another third sequel to bite the dust just like MegaMan Legends 3.
It isn't a Sonic game without a casino/pinball level and it isn't a Vectorman game without a tornado level
I remember beating this game when I was five years old I told my brother and he didn't believe me for a bit because of how hard this game was good times
I came here because Nintendo announced a few games from the Genesis will be coming to Switch Online and I really hope this is one of them. I played this so much as a kid
Did the Queen order that missile attack on Vectorman's space barge? If so, that led directly to the deaths of all her subjects and, finally, herself.
Also, that one kid in grade school lied to me.
What did they lie about?
@@balaclavatheslidegod1469 The final boss being Vectorman's brother, the titular Vectorman 2.
@@johnsesia9050 huh, well the last boss in the previous game was his friend who got turned evil cause he was nuclear warhead missile turning him evil
@@balaclavatheslidegod1469 I don't recall reading anything about the two of them having been friends.
tank morph and coloring was most lovely!
I think that vector man is a good reason why it has been the best game ever
this unlocked so many memories
This game is so tough even when you're playing on easy. But I did eventually beat it as well as part one
Vectorman would make a nice mascot for X-Box Microsoft should think about revising this game!
+L-Mighty Effect Unfortunately for Microsoft, this is a Sega owned property, and I doubt Sega would sell off the IP.
I love that little dance he does in the intro.
Is there a reason you were avoiding the extra energy tanks in the bonus stage?
Thank you for the post. I was on a natural high watching this game. I think it raised my blood pressure too.
22:23 It's the USS Vectorprise.
The shadow boss... the scariest of any VG boss. I don't care if you disagree.
The futuristic" metroid" of sega genesis, lucky to have had this great game.
This is far more better than the first thanks to the sounds in part 2
I used to play this on sonic ultimate genesis collection on my old xbox 360 I never got past the 2 level I bested the first game but this one was still fun to play
I played this game, and I had one blast of a time!
You don't have to feel embarrassed. I'm on the same boat.
tray9012 likeake
I never knew the name of this game since i played it at such a young age but wow. This game is fricken awesome glad i found it again after all these years.
was not a big fan of 2 but not a bad game played theis on the sega channel man i miss that
mrsmillyj fucularity finished
Pt. 1: The Orbot Revolution
Pt. 2: The Trash is Revolting, literally
When in the game does Vectorman say his signature "What are you, Chicken? Fight like a Robot!" Line? I dont seem to hear it at all.
Usually after killing an enemy
Seriously this game needs to be on current generation consoles it like the best game for genesis
It is.
I have been looking for this game for 10 fucking years
30:02 What killed you here?
So many memories .. good ole sega .. vectorman.. was one of my faves
I just added "What Are you" because it made the line make abit more sense, but you get what im talking about.
*Vectorman title screen theme plays*
TURN THAT SHIT UP!!!!!!!!
anyone know of a way i can play this on pc?
It's strange, I remember this game, but I also thought there was a little more bulk to his armor. Strange how memories can seem so close but also a little different.
Weird, usually my memories are exactly how I remember them.
That Enemies to Make Vectorman Damage Change Colors.
There was a contest?
These games had my favorite soundtracks
My favourite game for my MD
I can't decide if I like Vectorman's voice from I or II.
Torvus km
I like 1 better
Vectorman 2 is a 1996 American cyberpunk superhero action comedy film directed by John McTiernan, written by James Cameron, Bonnie Turner, and Terry Turner, and starring Ewan McGregor and Shannen Doherty.
Cast:
1. Ewan McGregor as Thomas Vincent / Vectorman
2. Shannen Doherty as Renee Sullivan
The sound design of this game should be an example for every sci-fi game.
Some cool stuff here but it doesn’t touch the first game. A lot of odd choices.
Vectorman 2 is on the upcoming sega genesis mini 2
I wish I did this well when _I_ played this game back in the 90s.
16 bit spremuti all infinito con risultato incredibile, favoloso.
One of last games released for the Megadrive
turbo mode on the game pad was fun for the bonus stages to go crazy and get as much points and so forth in this game. beating the end boss was always easy because all you have to do is keep on going back and forth shooting up at his brain.
As usual on 99% Genesis games : incredible, but shitty ends .... for the sake of all gods, WHY ? :)
whats the best vector man?
Bar-none? Vectorman 1, of course.
The shadow boss is the most impressive part.
Im glad i have this on my Sega megadrive ultimate collection
Those days when i would hand my brother a controller and tucked the other end under the Genesis as it was actually plugged in 😂
Some of the graphical tricks can't be properly viewed without an interlaced CRT or a really high-class scanline filter. Makes me want to buy one of those fancy OSSC units. Not quite as good as having a legit CRT TV, but close enough.
The soundtrack from both games are awesome. Hope some company makes another game with the goodness these games brought.
Universal Paramount and Lionsgate Presents Vectorman 2
This game is so brutal
Oh man such a great game i remember renting this and the graphics was the tits for a genesis game.
