I like the look of "Did the factory build it like that?" Kind of like if Chevy had built a 1953 El Camino that was as crazy then as the 1959 was 6 years later. The pieces of the '54 grille are pretty radical in the mock-up and got me thinking. More bolted together and less moulded. 100% agree on staying with all mid-1950's parts. Absolutely great to watch it develop.

Try Kyle's Lube Light transmission and gearbox oil. Guaranteed not to leave any oil stains on anything. Yes this magical stuff only leaves brown stains on your jeans and only on the outside, unless of course you drop the drive shaft into your drip tray in which case both inside and outside of your jeans could end up being stained brown (not recommended!). Your gearbox will be like new because you will need to replace it. You won't need a tuned exhaust because your drive train will offer you that custom, creaky, crunchy, clunky sound that nobody else has (or wants!). Kyle's Lube Light PAF (not Patent Applied For but Pretty Awful Fluid)

Hey Kyle, you are one brave character! 😀 On my 64 F100 I had to rebuild the front body supports, the front half of the floors and firewall, the air boxes and the roof line along the drip rail. The box floor was completely gone as well as 3" of the inner bed walls. The tailgate was another mess. half of it ended up in the recycle bin. The original engine and trans were god knows where and no driveshaft. Someone thought they were going to do a Crown Vic front end swap so all the engine and transmission mounts and cross member were gone as well. Other than that it was easy going. I used a 65 Galaxy steering column as I ended up with a 351M engine with a C6 auto . I didn't want a floor shifter so the galaxy column worked and looked good. I had to cut the original steering shaft off at the steering box and weld on a splined end for the "rag" steering joint. After a little fiddling everything worked great. Most people can't tell it not the correct steering column. I left the solid front axle but added a disc brake kit for the front. It uses Chevy Impala calipers on late 70s Ford F150 rotors. Great runner and fun to drive. The body is in it's original 60 year old patina and most people think it's a pure survivor. I call it a " resto mod survivor"! I'm currently working on a 65 F350 and hope to have the cab in paint by July. Thanks for all the help, I've learned a lot!!!

My gosh. There are going to be tons of videos on all the slits and cuts.
I wonder if a SBC water neck has the same bolt pattern for your thermostat cover? Or just cut and weld it
Anyway. I’m at the same point with my car project where I need to cut the bracing out and put the exact seat that I want in it before I fit anything in the interior. Ergonomics are so-important.

I think if you run that motor some, the stuck piston ring on #3 might get unstuck. I was amazed how much like my old Chevy that Pontiac is. And I think the problem with the transmission was that it was overfilled. When you remove the fill plug, nothing should run out. Yep, definitely overfilled! I like the looks of the chicken truck - and I really like the way that chicken explains things. The world would be a better place with that chicken explaining things to people........

I am enjoying watching this quirky concept come together !
As a previous owner of cars with both the early Stovebolt 6 and the sidevalve Pontiac 6 , I can say that I found the engines similar in terms of power . The difference is that the Stovebolt produces more initial torque ( 'alacrity?') , but it cannot handle high revs for a long time , whereas the Pontiac is a tough old lump of the sort where you can nail the pedal to the floor and go for it . Possibly down to the different Oiling systems . Road holding and brakes were equally awful .

The central dash pod might actually be better than plan A! The flathead 6 is cool, it would be great with some speed equipment, although there doesn't seem to be much for them. I'm kind of drawn to the idea of an early '50s GM V8- Nailhead with 3 or 6 carbs (every vehicle ever made should have one!), or Cad/Olds? Love where you're going with this.

I think that the truck looks good on the Pontiac frame, I think it's low enough. If you wanted to use a radiator from the 60's, my 67 Mustang radiator is smaller than the one you have, and the neck at the top is offset to one side. The Mustang has a 289 V-8 so the radiator is large enough to keep the engine cool. Otherwise, you might have to take a trip to the salvage yard to look for a smaller fan blade, so you can lower the radiator.

Next video, "Hen truck", Chicken trucks mother, fatter but lower, even more yellow! (and bigger butt...)
Regarding the engine, it is correct that i should be the rings if it gets a higher comp. pressure with oil in the cylinder. I think that the rings could free up with some atf/aceton mix, or some other solvents and oil, or some thing like Marvel mystery oil. And just turning it over av few times, maybe running it a bit. The engine seams to have nice consistent comp. pressure on the other cylinders, so it seams to have been taken care of. After the oli in cylinder treatment just remember to change out the oil, all of the stuff you pore in the cylinder will end up in your engine oil.
    Great video, as usual!
    Regards from Sweden!
    /Erik

I didn't see the torque tube drop coming, spilling rusty water.just as I didn't see a similar spill of OLD engine oil in my case. When the battery was flat for the compression test you said "OH" and fail came up on the screen. Is that a Canadian cuss.

traditional and period correct is hard find in the Kustom world today. People usually getting into fist fights arguing about what it really means. Traditional hotrods are more out there for sure. I guess, because the engine is more exposed and visible. I build cars for myself and knowing a modern drive train is sitting under the hood is ruining it. I'm talking about LS and so. Early small block is ok for my opinion.

Love your direction. Back around 2000 an acquaintance had a rod shop/ body shop. They started a 48 Buick sedan and attempted to make a Harley hauler. But order was canceled.

Just stick a toyota 2jz engine (its almost the same age right?) in it with maybe with some comic book size turbo on it. And like my classic mini, just move the radiator to one of the fenders or have one on each fender for symmetri. Paint the electric fans to look like steampunk or put some work in it with shafts and gears to drive em. For the stearing just get 2 cogs with a chain between them and a cog for tention the chain to drop it to what height you need, or maybe with a 2jz engine you have room for a stearing rack, and for the pedals,,,,, just trow away the stearing and pedals completely and install the tesla auto pilot. Im sure youll be fine. If you have more problems needing solved ill be here. But you need to buy extended warranty for your cars.

I have to ask. What's the story on the jacket? Did it catch on fire at some point? Or is it one your grandpa wore back in the day, and you just can't part with it. Don't get me wrong, I love it! Love the build too my man!

When you first started this project I questioned your sobriety but as you progress I can visualize it.. Once again I've proven I'm not as smart as I thought I was.

My guess is it's an old truck and you are going to work on it, or some part of it, in some manner.
The Chicken Truck™ and keeping it period correct as an example of the days artisans makes logical sense.
The world is becoming infested with bodyswaps onto modern chassis. It's looking like anyone could do that.

I like everything you’re doing on this build. Period correct is definitely the way to go. The in-line 6 is the greatest engine design ever made, which is why literally everyone from farm tractor manufacturers to Jaguar has made one. Keep going.

I have had your name removed from butcher of the year running. Lots of new content for us chicken truck fanatics by choosing that frame. OH to be young. Keep up the good work.

man your head is in exactly the right place for this project and think you've got great ideas. this will absolutely look outstanding... i'm super into this.
i dig the other stuff you're doing and in spite of what some wise guys say you have a respect for the old stuff. pulling the head off the six just for inspection isn't a big job.
    also, kitties!

While you were disemboweling the drive train I walked away for a minute and I heard electronic music. I thought it was video and ran back to unsubscribe. Thank goodness it was a commercial. You gotta get better adds!

I understand your thoughts on the engine, and a small block would probably interfere with the steering box. If however you are even remotely considering making the change then this is the time to do it before installing the inner and outer fenders.
