    Judging a drill only on a speed of a single fastener/hole is a mistake.
    Where's the tools efficiency / longevity in this? How many bolts of each type can a tool drive on a single charge? What is the tool's / battery's temperature during and after a heavy duty cycle? How fast does it cool down? What about its ruggedness and resistance to damage from impacts? Does it hold the axis of rotation or does it wobble the drill / how much? What's the clutch characteristics, does it stop easily on low torque or does it strip the fastener/hole because too much torque is applied? etc.
    If we judge a tool solely on a single test of speed it's like claiming Usain Bolt is the best athlete - he's the best sprinter, but that's just one of many athletic disciplines. To win such a skewed competition a tool just has to draw as much current as possible regardless of shortening its duty cycle. This is not the single most important metric user's use - tool's longevity and overall performance is that matters in the long run.

      I often hear Makita power tools have great customer service how would that compare to DeWalt? I am no expert but between Makita and DeWalt I've seen seen both last long compared to what Milwaukee is putting out currently with all of there overheating issues. Both DeWalt and Makita have tools that have outlasted their own batteries. Just my 2 cents.

    If you were working with all 3 on a jobsite that required a shitload of drilling, like recently I installed cable deck railings and drilled around 250 holes to run the cables. I used the XGT version that’s really massive but never felt any fatigue due to the ergonomics and how buttery smooth that makita trigger is, the quality shows the more you use it alongside the others.

    Was using the dcd 800 for the past 2 days on solid wood tables. The fine control is not as great as my makita but the light weight makes up for it. Like you said Makita needs to come out with new battery tech. That powerstack 1.7 with dcd800 was god send to my wrist. Makita with powerstack type battery would be perfect.
    Is the grinding sound normal on dewalt drills? It makes a grinding noise at low speed for second. No grinding sound at high rpm. I was predrilling holes for bases and brackets. I like to low speed the drill to get center on screw holes before i ramp the rpm.

    Makita seems to really dismiss the compact format. You can see it in their 12 volt series and here in the LXT 18 volt.
    As to why they came out with it, especially with no new tech batteries. Your guess is as good as mine. Hope they can skim some of the XGT budgeted engineering staff over to the LXT side. Loved their subcompact line. Just got the recipro at HD was on clearance for $85. Nice unit!
    Have the DCD 800 with the 350 impact driver. Came in a bundle from HD around Black Friday last year. What a combination! It's starting to give me "Yellow" fever again! Enjoyed the ride.....

      The 1330 is a bigger and much more powerful drill. On smaller stuff they might seem similar in power but I would eventually run away with it. It’s close in power to the 975 but that is still the size of the 1330. So it’s about 1” longer and fair bit heavier.

    What’s the difference between the XFD16z and the XPH16? Which would you recommend?

    • @TinkerWithTools
      @TinkerWithTools  3 месяца назад

      The XFD is going to be a drill driver only where the XPH16 is a hammer drill, capable of drill in masonry or concrete. That should be the only difference. As a recommendation then it will depend on if you have a need to drill into masonry or concrete. If you do go with the XPH.

    • @timhomstad
      @timhomstad 3 месяца назад

      @@TinkerWithTools I already have a corded hammer drill. But if cost is taken out of the equation would it be better to get the XPH since it has more capabilities? Is the drill part the same as the XFD?

    • @TinkerWithTools
      @TinkerWithTools  3 месяца назад

      Yes. They are the same in power level. This isn't the top tier of the cordless hammer drills (that being the XPH14) so the while it is capable for smaller stuff, the corded hammer drill probably pack a bigger punch. Typically on more full sized drills, I choose the hammer drill option just because the cost difference is usually negligible, but on something more compact (like Makita's sub compact stuff) I go drill driver only. This rides a strange middle ground where it's more powerful than a lot of the stuff from even 5 years ago, but it's not their top of the line.

    As a Makita person I'm disappointed in seeing most of their technology head to the XGT, especially since it costs a fortune, even on eBay where you can get some reasonably priced XGT tools, the batteries are far too expensive.
    All that said, Makita has a ton of products in their 18 volt line, and so do I, meaning I'm not switching brands easily, although Flex has me curious, they just don't have enough products, not even close considering Milwaukee seemingly has no issue with bringing out a new M-18 tool monthly. Even Ridgid I think has brought out more than Flex in the past two years.

    Milwaukee?

    • @TinkerWithTools
      @TinkerWithTools  29 дней назад

      I think that for the most part, many companies make a quality product that will last for most people. I have had tools go bad on all of these brands at one time or another, so now company is immune. That being said, different companies have better or easier repairability than some companies. Milwaukee for example often doesn't sell individual parts that make it hard to repair a broken tool in a cost effective way. Some companies (especially on older tools) make it pretty easy to maintain your tools. There are a lot of good resources out there like Dean Doherty for example that can help see which companies tools are more serviceable.

    I got a killer deal on dcd805 and I love it, I leave my dcd999 at home unless I know I'm setting anchors or small batch mixing concrete, my 805 does 85% of what I need on the job site. I had been wanting to purchase the 805 for a while but waited for a deal and I'm so glad I did, it's a bargain at retail already, short of not having a aux handle (essentially defeating the compact size of the unit) there's nothing I find myself wanting from this tool that it doesn't have, very well built, capable and compact tool. I don't even use my M12 fuel gen 3 drill or impact driver on jobs anymore unless I have to run self tappers in confined area or something, the dcf840 and dcd805 have completely filled the role those tools had in my day to day work. Good morning AMERICA!!! With the birth of Jesus Christ and our salvation. . I have a question that will relate to Makita 489. And the question is this. Are the jaws of the Makita keyless drill chuck, which are used to clamp bits or other drilling tools, hardened and do they not wear out over time? Because here in Lithuania, you have seen Makita 486 chuck jaws on one of the store stands, worn, in other words, the part with rounded ends where there are two small ribs on the jaws, which are used to press the drills. So now I'm thinking if it won't be the same with the Makita 489 with time, it won't wear out. And to the same. And in the same store, I saw a Bosch gsb 18v 150c, which in America is called bosch 1330, and the drill nozzles with which the drills are pressed seemed to me to be of higher quality than the makita 486. P.S Please forgive me for my English (Google Translator).
