    Being with Matika subcompact drill over 3 years, I would say this is the slimiest compare to others, you don't need tons of power if you chose the small drill, compact drill designed for work at tight area also lower your weight at your toolbelt or box. I use this drill for 3mm to 6mm timber drilling everyday and reseating the hot and cold outlet with a fantastic result. I do have XGT hammer drill if I use for hole saw cut or another application need high torque

      That's not a bad philosophy to use. Like I said, it's a nice drill to use, the other compacts on the table just allow you to do that and do some heavier duty work as well.

    Great video thank you. I absolutely agree 18v tools like these are making the case for 12v tools harder and harder. I love the 1.7ah Dewalt Powerstack too and think Milwaukee urgently need an equivalent. That said my choice is the Metabo HPT DEX. If I need more power I’ll reach for my Dewalt DCD805 or my Milwaukee Fuel gen 4. But I love the lightweight, superb ergonomics of the Metabo HPT offering and that’s my go to. Good to know it steps up in performance when paired with a bigger battery so I might try the new 4.0ah which is still one row of cells and thus reasonably compact.

    Nice Video 👍 , But how come you didn't use the DeWalt dcd 800 Compact XR Drill in this Competition ???

    • @TinkerWithTools
      @TinkerWithTools  5 месяцев назад +6

      There are a few reasons. Power wise it’s up significantly on every drill here. It’s roughly 800 in-lbs which tops the flex by 150. While pretty compact it is a heavier drill. So with the focus being more on the compact class I decided not to include it.
      Now with that said, I did test it in all the same categories (the M18 fuel as well) and it was pretty dominant. It bested the flex and the Milwaukee compacts by approximately 30%. I originally filmed a segment at the end about more premium options but given the video was going to be over 20 minutes and that I have several videos talking about it already, I chose to cut that segment. It’s a good option though especially if you already on DEWALTs platform.

    I bought the Bosch non-hammer first and returned it because Amazon sent me a used drill. But I had a chance to try it before sending it back and noticed it had a lot of vibration and runout compared to it's little brother (the brushless 12v 5-in-1 that you also tested). I then bought the Milwaukee to compare and it too has more vibration and runout, however, it has far less than the larger Bosch. It is a very smooth drill for the type and a steal at $99 at Home Depot. Everything you said about the drills is true. If I wasn't needing a very smooth drill working with the Parf Guide Mark II jig I am using for drilling 20mm x 96mm holes for a woodworking bench the precision would not have mattered (I would have been fine with my 12v Bosch, but this Milwaukee is actually a better drill for this work in my opinion because of how much smoother it is. These holes are not going to just be for holding work. There also to set up precise mitered angles, where slight variances add up exponentially with the length of the work. Anyway, thanks again for the review. Had I not watched this, I might have had to go through more drill options before landing on the Milwaukee.

      Yeah jason, I see what You and ‘Tinker’ are referring to, but I am not so sure it is all about how ‘slippery’ it is, but rather, how freaking tight it holds onto the bit!? Milwaukee had a lot of complaints about loose chucks in the past. My personal experience with this new M18 Compact ( Yes, I just picked one up ) is that the chuck holds onto the bit excessively tight, so that releasing it to change out bits, etc, is very hard. That is where the grip on the chuck is a problem. Chuck runs very true!
      Awesome little drill. High pitched motor noise, and the one I bought sounds like the motor/ control chip may be faulty? It does not sound ‘right?’ And when using the VS it makes a weird clicking sound? I cannot believe it is normal? It really does spin a drill bit, especially a smaller auger or Bosch daredevil type bit! But it will be going back, as the motor or something is off?
      Take care!

      @napoleonsmith7793 fast definitely is good in many situations. Having an impact with the power to go fast when you want, but the trigger control to go slow when needed, is key. If a driver gives you control simply because it lacks the power to do speed, it's really taking away capability.
      Aside from that, if you really need precision in a driving application, the ideal tool is something direct drive like an installation driver or a drill driver.

    Superb review, very helpful. Question - why does the Bosch have a slight angle to it? How the head is "angled up" a bit like what you see on the M12 drills.

    • @TinkerWithTools
      @TinkerWithTools  2 месяца назад

      I don't know that I have anything definitive on the why... but I would guess that they feel it's better ergonomically. If it will at a direct right angle, it would likely put your wrist at an awkward angle for prolonged use. Have it canted a little bit would make it more natural. That's a guess on my part... but it's what makes the most sense to me.
      As for the Milwaukee, it was a surprising performer for sure.

    • @bdm1000
      @bdm1000 2 месяца назад

      I have the Bosch and in my opinion the angle is to make the drill a little more stable when using the small "Locking Bit Holder Attachment". The other larger chucks are too heavy with the batteries that come with it because the drill is so light (making it top heavy). There is a 6Ah battery available for it that's almost a hundred dollars after tax. This is a little pricey, but it has a base that I believe will allow the drill to stand up with the other attachments. It's not worth the money for me because I just lay it down. I don't have a demanding work flow, so I really don't need the extra power and runtime of the 6Ah battery.

      I haven't experienced any issues with slipping, or with not being able to loosen the bit, I just found that I didn't like to use the chuck because of the slippery quality that I described in the video, making it difficult to tighten down properly. Once I get it tighened down I have had no issues. And well Spoiler alert to when I can get around to making a video I have chuck swapped this drill with the M12 Fuel chuck, and it got a lot nicer to use. I still have old chuck on the M12 Fuel Hammer drill that I sacrificed for this experiment but I have since replaced that with a new M12 Fuel Hammer Drill (it was roughly the same price as just buying the chuck) so I will likely donate that M12 Mutant to my brother in short order.
      If anyone else has any experience with it, I would encourage them to comment too. I can't say it performed poorly, I just didn't like to use it.

      @@TinkerWithTools Funny thing is I had no problem tightening it down, but it was a PITA to get loosened? Slippage on a bit is a No GO however. I’m sure it is an isolated incident. It is a heckuva little beast tho!
      I think mine was a Monday/ Friday drill, Made in Mexico. And it makes an awful noise at times, akin to when a Formula 1 car bumps up into the Rev limiter. Something going on in the motor? No matter, it is going back. I wanted to try it, but now wont buy it. 🙄

    Hey bro, great video as usual! This compact segment is really opening up which is great for all of us.
    Did you happen to test drilling and driving tasks on a Forge or 6.0HO? I'm curious if the compact M18 sees similar performance gains as the Metabo HPT and Flex on their bigger/higher performance batteries. These compacts are powerful enough I'd not be surprised to see significant voltage sag on the 5S 1P configuration in that 3.0HO, even with the 21700s (it's also clear to me Milwaukee needs to do a small Forge to keep being competitive in this new market segment).

    • @TinkerWithTools
      @TinkerWithTools  5 месяцев назад +1

      I didn’t run it on that simply because at that point it starts to feel like an anchor on the bottom of the tool. I may have to test in a future video but given that it was the performance winner in the normal testing even against drills with more performance on paper I feel it was sufficient for the testing.

      @TinkerWithTools that's fair and yeah, 6ah isn't really ideal in the field lol. I'm just curious if it sees the same or similar performance bump as the gen3/4 fuel drills when on a multi-row 21700 or stacked cell battery as a rough indicator of what performance gains we could see with a small (2 or 3ah) Forge battery in the future.

    What about the Dewalt dcd800? I think it would be a good inclusion

    • @TinkerWithTools
      @TinkerWithTools  5 месяцев назад +3

      The DCD800 is a great drill but there were a few factors that made it so I didn't include it. One, the power is a good bit higher than most of the drills. Dewalt UK lists it at roughly 800 in-lbs vs flex being the highest here at 650 in-lbs. Nothing wrong with a drill being more powerful but then you also have the weight. it's about 1/2 lb heavier than the DCD794, which for weight is already above the average in this class. Lastly, it's a bit longer than most of these drills. So with all of that, it just feels like it's more in a different class than truly competing here.
      But to give you an idea of where it would rate, it would take the crown. I ran it through the same tests and it was certainly the top performers.

    If Milwaukee could come out with a small surge battery, their compact would be the best. I own the Milwaukee and have used the Makita and Dewalt. The problem besides the slippery chuck is the battery size and weight. I think most people buy compacts for that reason, not power. I'm confused with Bosch's offerings. Is the GSR18V-535 replacing the Bosch GSR18V-800CN even though the latter appears to have slightly better specs? I can't find the 800 series on Bosch's website under drill/drivers; I can only find it searching for the specific model number. The 800 series is slightly shorter in length and has slightly more torque. Copilot (which is totally unreliable) not surprisingly said the 800 was released first, but it would appear to be going slightly backwards in features. Am I missing something?

Metabo HPT offers a lot of good value on their platform and you can routinely find sales on Amazon and such on their tools. For values sake that would be the choice. Hey thanks for replying. I appreciate it. What's confusing us that the Metabo is rated higher in both torque (in-lbs) and RPM, yet the Milwaukee was a LOT faster in actual testing. Are the Metabo specs just marketing..?
      Also it seems like the light on the Metabo is a little bigger and/or brighter than the light on the M18? And it looks like more of a pure or even bluish white, whereas the M18's has a very slight yellow tint. Could you comment at all on that?

      @TinkerWithTools  2 месяца назад

      I'll check the lights and get back to you. As for the ratings. i almost feel that the Milwaukee is underrated if anything. The Metabo compares to the flex which is rated similarly quite well. At the end of the day all the specs are just marketing but I have found that they are all in the same ball park for the most part.
