Firing order of Chrysler (Mopar) V8 engines!

- This video shows you how to visualize the firing order of a Chrysler motor in a way that you'll never have to memorize any numbers. 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 is the firing order of both small blocks and big blocks. But watch the video... and you won't have to memorize that.
It's been 5 years since I rebuilt a mopar. Thanks for the help
The very first diagram showing the cylinders is correct. The rest of the video would only confuse someone trying to learn the firing order. Why? Because you have re-labeled the cylinder locations with some made made-up numbering. The ODD cylinders are always on the driver's side and the EVEN cylinders are on the passenger side and are numbered front to rear. Just memorize the sequence! 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 and forget this crazy mis-labeled firing order diagram!
"Made up numbers"? I don't think you understand the 2nd graphic. It is not showing cylinder numbers. It is showing the firing order visually. The first cylinder to fire is the top left cylinder (front of engine at top). The second cylinder to fire is the back right cylinder so I put a 2 there. Not made up numbers. The whole point of this video is to learn the firing order without memorizing any numbers at all.
Thanks moparcarguy
not all cars have even and odd cylinder on a side
Thanks for clearing that!
Moparcarguy can u please explain to me how I can do the 'wires on my 05 Dodge Magnum 5.7 hemi
i agree with moparcarguy that was so confusing and i am a certified technician. 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 is all you have to remember same as a small and big block chevy.
He could have done it with the cylinders in the correct order. It would have made it a lot easier.
dude, this is awesome. this firing order video is a great tool to have rattling around in your head, thanks
Thanks you so much just wanted to know my cylinder number one. This video really help me because right now im working on Re8 nissan ud V8 thanks 👍
Yes Ivan, the "big blocks" - 361, 383, 400, 413 and 440 blocks B and RB engines all have the same firing order, as well as the 426 wedge.
Yeah, it turned out to be the right firing order, the sequence just started at a different point on the distrubutor and threw me off. I found the right diagram for an LA 360 and everything matched what was already there. So I'm out of the woods as far as that's concerned. Good video, I have that firing order damn near memorized now!
Why didn't you put the cylinders in the configuration of the actual block? You have a left and right bank but the cylinders are not labeled correctly. Drivers side is all odd: 1,3,5,7. Passenger side: 2,4,6,8.
@thenine091 There are 4 strokes - suck, squeeze, bang, and blow. The next cylinder in the firing order is always one half stroke behind. So going by cylinder numbers, if cylinder 1 is finishing blow, 8-starting blow, 4-finishing bang, 3-starting bang, 6-finishing squeeze, 5-starting squeeze, 7-finishing suck, 2-starting suck.
ok i have a 440 do all big blocks fire the same or are they different.
Amazing...tks for post!
That just blows me away I always assumed they fired in order but boy was I wrong
There is no alternate firing order for the 360 - well unless you have one of those boat motors where the crank spins the opposite direction, which is unlikely!
Are you wiring the distributor up clockwise? It is clockwise for the small blocks (273, 318, 340, 360) and counter-clock wise for the big blocks.
cool, Thanks for taking the time to make that video!!!!
if cylinder number 2 is at the beginning of its power stroke, is cylinder number 3 starting its intake stroke? or if cylinder number 3 is at the beginning of its power stroke, is cylinder 2 starting its intake stroke?
Great vid, really helped a lot once i realized the diagram was uside-down to what i expect.
but thanks very much
my dad made a saying about big block and small block firing. this saying only makes straight the firing of no 5 and no 7. that are easy to get mixed up. the other are easy to keep straight. " the small bock has the dist in the wrong place the rear but the shaft turns the right way clockwise. the big block dist is in the right place the front. but the shaft turns the wrong way counterclockwise. and BOTH have no. 5 before no. 7 on the cap AND block."
@sebring53 the 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 are cylinder numbers. The first cylinder to fire is cylinder 1. The second cylinder to fire is cylinder 8 and so on. This video shows you a way you can remember which cylinder fires next, visually without having to remember any numbers.
JEEP CHEROKEE LAREDO 5.7 V8 2012 SAME FIRING ORDEN ?
The details of how to adjust your valves depend on whether you have hydraulic or solid lifters. If solid, it also depends on how large a gap your cam wants. Search for the "Wayne Smothers How To Super Tune" DVD. It'll tell you how to adjust the valve clearance.
@darokkz Not always - and aftermarket intakes don't have it.
Is this for 2011 dodge ram1500 cylinder sequence
does this diagram go for a 1968 truck d200 camper special??? I took off the wire with out marking them
It's likely you have either the 273, 318, or 383 V8 engines. If you have the 273 or 318 then the wiring diagram is exactly the same as shown in the video. If you have the 383 (distributor would be in front of the motor instead of the back) then it's almost the same - the only difference is that you connect the wires to the distributor in count-clockwise order instead of clockwise.
@sebring53 you don't see the numbers on the cap in the video? look again.
This is confusing people ,Front of Engine driver side is 1 3 5 7 Passenger is 2 4 6 8 so plug your wires clockwise with the Number 1 printed on the Cap and follow 1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2

Yes anyone that knows Mopars that, though the Firing order is still the same
Awesome
i love this video but i want to learned also to how to adjust the valve clearance of v8 engine?
I have chrystler 300c v8 fireing order ???
Give me a picture of the diagram for a 1975 Yale forklift 6-cylinder
Is this correct on all dodge engines. ?
Chris Hoyle go to find the firing order for a 77 Dodge 360 engine
Damn Franken-stitch vehicles!!!
Like this,
Firing order located on Intake Manifold of enging
Sameone can help me please about car it cant start just turning engine only
This does not show what the front nor the back as look at other videos shows completely different order
it would have been more helpful if the reader had a point of reference to start. I:E: if your standing in front of the vehicle or sitting in the drivers seat.
The very beginning diagram tells you front and back of car
Anybody that know what music that was used in this video?
I have an '88 Dodge ram 250 with a 360 ci, I was changing the distributor cap and I lost track of two wires. I looked this firing order up and the original way my truck was wired matches NOTHING like what I've found online! AAARRRGH! The fuck? What am I missing? Is there an alternate firing order for my particular engine? How the hell did it run wired up wrong? I had the same problem with an F150 302, turned out it had a Windsor cam firing order. Am I running into a similar problem with Dodge?
This can’t be right on 99 360(5.9)
LOL - You're seen the thread on MoparStyle, haven't you? :-)
can you explain v12 now?
Same firing order as big & small block Chevrolet.
1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 is correct; and the rotor goes clock-wise. Cylinders 1-3-5-7 are on the drivers side and 2-4-6-8 are located on the passenger side. This video is all screwed up. How do you learn the firing order without numbers. That's like trying to learn the English language without letters. Ahhh, put a 180 crank in it and configure the cap to fire the cylinders twice 1&6 - 8&5 - 4&7 - 3&2. One cylinder would fire on the compression stroke and the other cylinder would fire on the exhaust stroke. You'd have two 4 cylinder motors connected by a single crank. Yikes! Ford does this with portable air compressors. one half of the engine is a 4 cylinder motor; the other half is the 4 cylinder air compressor. Or I could be wrong.

I have a running 440 now so it's correct
@mckelvie77 no problem :-)
hola buenas ttardes se le puede montar un arbol de leva de 318 modelo nuevo a un 318 nmodelo viejo que debo hacer
