Great content as always! Really appreciate that you take the time to explain the time to explain why you’re running specific things; Has helped me a ton with learning to better optimize situationally both when I’m tanking and when I play other roles
Great walkthrough of the Arcanist tank! Many thanks! Really like that include both the basics for beginners as well as the more fine details for experienced players.
Thank you for another amazing and thorough video. I remember when a prog group buddy of mine told me, "have you seen that Hyper is making tanking videos now?" and I got excited that we finally might get some top-tear content (and this is not a jab at any other content creators, but there comes a time in one's ESO journey where you need a smart endgame player explaining all the tiny little details, math, whys and hows so you can become a better player), and I've enjoyed your videos ever since. You're the reason I dared to give my DK a rest and created a necro tank (and had a lot of fun), later a warden tank, and now - arcanist. I've gotten trifectas done, I've been doing content I never hoped to do, and tanking became so much easier when I focused on resistances, reinforced and correct jewellery enchants, and understood it on a deeper level. Gone are the days of randomly dying or feeling like, "this dungeon is not possible without a healer". I now quickly can tell how to best adjust my setup, what's best for each fight, and how I can be a better support for my group. Can't wait to try out arcanist tank in harder content; thanks again for all the great content you make!
Thanks for the video. A lot of great information. I want to consider another situational skill is Propelling Shield from the Alliance Support line, it adds 7 meters to any ranged skill that is over 20 meters. It can be used with Inner Rage (28 meters) to give it a 35 meter range. Can be useful when dealing with the Twins in Maw of Lorkhaj or Triplets in Halls of Fabrication.
Ironically, I used Propelling Shield in the world first trifecta we just did so yeah, it's very useful, but this guide took a lot of time and I wanted it to be ready for Necrom release so I had to cut corners in a few places, I'll try to rectify that in the written version
A very good Guide 😊 thanks for this! I play the arcanist as a offtank and i so happy with this ... i hope zos bring on day goods another Support Sets for tanks
Great guide hyper! Just wanted to mention that in the green tree the steadfast enchantment passive actually does affect combat since it allows you to proc your enchants more often during a fight (which affect uptimes depending on the enchants you are choosing). Ty for the guide hyped to test arc out!
Amazing how I put mine together and then came looking for builds a day later and you are pretty much 90% of what I put together, glad to see I'm on the right track lol

In the full gear section it was shown as "Yolnahkriin/Turning Tide" because you won't always be able to use Arcanist's Domain, in some fights you'll be too far away to provide it reliably

Arcanist tank is extremely strong, you won't be gimping yourself with it. I can't really order classes from strongest to weakest because it depends on the trial/dungeon, there are trials where Arcanist is the best and trials where Dragonknight is the best.
Have to leave a second comment, the parts about where XY may be niche useful, the mentioning of stuff like Markyns- thats quality stuff. Im sure ppl would even listen to this content if youd just talk about thoughts on special setups or single fights etc.
Hey, cool guide! Can you tell me which armor does the character has fitted (or which outfit is it) that is seen at the starting screen of your guide? I like that style alot!
Hey hyper, OP 1771 here.. question since your tank resistance has a cap, but Tremor scale doesn't have a cap, does that mean the arcanist tank could strip the resistances needed to drop alkosh or Crimson from group comp all together? 11k resistance stripped from boss from pierce armor and wall of ele..another 900 from 1 piece light armor, 2200 from arcanist ability, also arcanist with nord and all its resistances plus Rojo healer running ozan monster set to give group another 5k resistance should push tremorscale to the point of stripping the last bit of resistances needed. Your zens can now run a full burn set instead of kosh, while MT can still run the other sets such as peal and Yolo without needing Crimson. Also arcanist has a crap ton of recovery so maybe you can switch from atro mundus to the lady to scale Tremor even more. Please make a video testing this! Love your content!
Hey @Hyperioxes! Thank you so much for such a great guide. I’ve got a question. In your example setups you use PA, however you don’t use any assault skills on bosses. Is it intended to be used only for thrashes? I’m a console player and use the skills you recommend for console. To trigger pa, which skill can I replace the leash or the blood alter? Thanks!
the Glyphic ultimate got skipped because it's just really underwhelming and not really worth using, I did mention it in Skill Setups section but not with the intention of ever casting it, you can keep it on your front bar to trigger the Intricate Runeforms passive
What do you think about tristat traits on all three jewelry pieces with reduce skill cost on all three jewelry pieces? Wouldnt that be the best sustain combo?
Question 1: How can I use Runeguard of Stillwater on trash and Runeguard of Freedom on boss? Check your video. Question 2: Why you use 6 pcs of Yolnakriin in setup 1:12:05? Is it a mistake?
He definitely meant PA for the necklace yol part, and Q1 he’s just saying what would be best for what encounter it’s up to us to decide which one we grab to use the whole trial/dungeon
Having watched 2 times now this is a really good template as you cover a lot of beginner info as well for those newer players finding this while having plenty of end game info. Great job as usual!!
How does it work when you have a weapon on the main bar that gives you extra life (for example Trainee) and on the secondary bar you don't have that bonus? Does your health bar instantly adjust to percentages when you switch between front/back? shields and heals adjust too? it's worth it? in which cases?
It doesn't adjust percentages, it adjusts flat values. The main point of it is to increase scaling of your Impervious Runeward which you will cast only on your frontbar
You can get away with it in easier content but the lack of block mitigation will make some fights impossible. Also you have to really know what you're doing because by running Greatsword you'll need to get Major Breach from another source like Elemental Susceptibility or Razor Caltrops. I've only found Greatsword to be actually useful in trash packs in easier trials where spamming Brawler with a Charged Greatsword was a good way of keeping up Minor Breach on multiple targets.
Impervious runeward consumes crux to heal you, runic defence if active when you go below 50% health is an auto burst heal. I normally run vigour and powerful assault as well
the weapon dmg value it gives is extremely small, it could maybe be used when you're trying to burn a boss and you approach it with all supports with full ultimate but in regular content other ults are way stronger
hei there, it is a misunderstanding. if you look at tooltip from the skill in the skill menu, it says 15m. but read carefully, when frost staff is equipped: you get a higher range. so if you read the tooltip from the slotted skill while froststaff is equipped, it says 28m.
