Dodge transmission suck
I met a contractor who had a jeep. He said it was fantastic and then proceeded to tell me all the repairs he put on it. The list seemed endless and surely must have been costly. He nearly had to rebuild it. He didn't seem to know what he was saying.
Ok ppaq19
@@chuckcecconi8801 i agree @Chuck
I wouldn't have a Jeep if it was given to me.
Cummins diesel is good but I wish the rest of the truck was just as good
I agree on the rest of the truck. But the Cummins I find to be one heck of an engine!
So true...
Fummins is the way
I’m glad to have somebody agree with me that the grand Cherokee was a good built vehicle under the German occupation of Chrysler. I work in service at a Chrysler dealership and I always found good service out of the grand Cherokee better than most of the other jeeps
So the three American vehicles you should buy are:
1) 3/4 ton Dodge Ram with a Cummins diesel
2) Jeep Grand Cherokee 6 cylinder
3) His grandsons El Camino.
Best looking landscaping truck I’ve ever seen.
The El Camino song - "El Camino, El Camino, The front is like a car the back is like a truck, the front is where you kiss the back is where you .............. .El Camino.
Well Cummins did just pay 1.7 billion to the EPA...
I can refer to a video he made about how well the GM 2500 trucks are made, just like he’s talking about that Ram Cummins.
@@bojangles4704 right, that was a gas version. That had nothing to do with it....he made a video about how much he liked the 2500 3 years ago.
Heard rustproofing a car is actually counter productive and might cause rust. What have you seen over the years?
😂It might pull a load, but can You Stop a load with it?
Yes! They come with very good proportional trailer brake controls.
The K Cars and Out 1985 Dodge Pickup had Horrible Brakes.
Merry Christmas and Blessed New Year 2023
Have always like the 4.0 inline, might look for a Grand Cherokee with the 4.0. What years were the good Chrysler Daimer Mercedes builds?
Thanks Scotty great video as always thank you! Merry Christmas to you and happy New Year
Merry Christmas Scotty. If I could find an El Camino, I would be driving it.
When GM gearbox was maked by Isuzu (ex GM brand)
What does Scotty think of those Chinese cars?
Scotty, I have a 2012 Honda Accord SE that makes a rattle noise on cold start. Online searches say that needs a VVT Actuator. Is this an urgent issue? (no check engine icon) 110k miles.
Scotty why would someone daily drive a huge v8 truck if they don’t haul anything but normal civilian stuff?
In-line 6;)

I love my Cummins!
But unfortunately a Dodge came with it.
Every dodge ran I have had the transmission has went out on. Also everyone I have known who have had a dodge ram has had the transmission gonout as well.
So plan on replacing the transmission at some point if you buy a dodge ram.
Yup, already did it at 187,000
Rebuilt the transmission at 192,000.
My '97 powerstroke will do 25 mpg on the hwy, everyday driving about 17 mpg. No blue pee. 8' bed holds 2 yards of whatever, 2.5 in a pinch. I've had 2 tons of abc rock in it and it goes fine. 220 k miles with same engine and trans and still runs great and starts in -20F mornings with no heat! (rated to -30F un-aided so not challenging for it) Yes, a new starter, couple sets of glows, new alt., glow relay, chutch/flywheel, fuel filter heaters, u-joints, normal chassis/brake stuff.
My 2001 Dodge 2500/Cummins 24 valve has 250,000 miles. It's the HO with the 6 speed manual transmission. It still gets 21mpg. Other than consumables (oil, tires etc.) I can count on one hand the number of repairs it has needed in the 23 years I have owned it (I ordered new and it took 8 weeks to process and build at the Fenton, MO plant). I wish they still made them like this one!
The Cummins engine is the ONLY good thing about that Ram, mostly junk!
What about all the emission dodging measures that Cummins did? It just broke and I thought they were planning a huge recall soon?
Yeah that's what I heard too. I was just about to buy a new 3500 but I think I'll wait and see how bad the government is going to screw these 6.7's up.
They sure had trouble with K Cars in the 1980's.
huh my mom had a 05 jeep grand cherokee and the thing was nothing but problems lol. was completely dead at 150k. like most things it seems to be more how they were cared for and how they were driven. like the one video where scotty had the chevy malibu that had like 400 and some k. but was mostly if not probably all highway miles. especially on cars that arent toyota or honda really seems to be how they were taking care of and highway vs city
Grand Marquis for family haulin with trunk for luggage and 5 sets of golf clubs. Ranger for all the projects I'll ever tackle. Japanese econobox for commuting. God Bless America 🤠
I mean... Actually hard to disagree. And you can actually get the Grand Marquis level of comfort in these japanese toys.
We use the trunk for other purposes in NJ and NY. 😁🤟
Simply not seeing the 1994 Celica, being praised as the greatest vehicle ever. Makes this a alternative universe. Merry Christmas Scotty and happy Celica year.
3 "American" Vehicles you should buy
“Silly car” not celica 😅
The reason it tops lists is because based on cost to repair and frequency of repairs, it's cheaper to keep running than even an old Crown Vic. But as for best car overall, it's a fun little car but also a tiny little speedbump that most SUVs will run over in a crash.
Chrysler and it's other division's are foreign owned. Stellantis of France is the parent company. What a shame!
That American Cummins diesel engine however is a thumbs up.
I knew a car guy in high school who had an El Camino. It’s like listening to him explaining why he bought such a peculiar car all over again.
I heard someone refer to the El Camino as the "mullet" of the car world.
He didn’t have a mullet but many of his friends did 😄. He was the first guy to explain to me what torque was. @@robc7323
99-02 7.3 powerstroke 💪
2500 RAM uses a Japanese AISEN transmission.
Only the 3500 series with the HO Cummins is available with that transmission, all 2500's have the standard output Cummins with the 68RFE transmission
My mistake@@dmac5497
And aren’t gm duramaxes Japanese made by Isuzu?
Not this old Ram
@Big.W. yep you are correct
Scotty! Your mind is right behind you!🤣Its right next to your nose! Running away!!!!
Something rung with this guy I have 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500HD with 6.6 Duramax diesel 4WD I put 487500 miles on that and still runs as of the first day I bought that my engine transmission rear end is original and everything on this truck in side and out side work very good and believe it or not I pulled really heavy stuff with that.
Rung? And ,some people get lucky.....ive had a couple dodges l with over 200k that were reliable.....that doesnt mesn theyre always good quality...becsuse theyre not..
Exactly,I ain't bias i like all makes, but he said don't buy no Gm diesel's,huh😳‼the 6.6L duramax is legendary the worse duramax is better than ford's and international's 6.0/6.4 debacle's especially the 6.4's in the early 2010's,now if you say the 5.9 Cummins or the 7.3 turbo diesel's are better and more durable engines then the duramax,ok, then you got me plus the duramax is easier too work on try working on them ford utility trucks with those 6.0/6.4 you have too take the whole damn cab off all diesel's are not perfect most of these cars or fiberglass, cast aluminum ect.....,I could be wrong
A G-Body El Camino will most likely be my next vehicle. I can't have it as my sole daily driver because it would probably get stolen and I don't trust it in the snow, but it's coming.
I have had 2 2001s and a 2000 and I love those but they are junk..The 6s are way too small and eat too much gas but that's the reason why it's still running..The V8s head gaskets blow around the 250k and too many electrical problems from exterior to interior
Scotty, you have taught me more about cars with your videos than I could've ever learned in a lifetime otherwise. Thank you, man. And Merry Christmas.
I think it was Nova That didn't sell very good in Mexico because it meant no-go in Spanish
I have a 1993 D250. Cummins of course,334000 klm’s. Second owner. 2wheel dodge only! Runs excellent! I did have the tranny rebuilt 2600.00 $$. Just goes& goes. Then I bought a new2018 out back dodge 4c4. Lots of recalls! 426 hemi. Kinda nice! My school buddy’s a mechanic/owns his shop. When he saw me pull to the shop, we’ll he asked me if I bought another one for spare parts. Ha. Ha. 24000 lkm’s. From 2chev guys all there life, he’s a Toyota man, me with the dodges!!! How life changes! P. S. & NO my ol 93 is not for sale!!!
My Uncle has an '80-something white LeBaron with red vinyl EVERYTHING, and it refuses to die.
Well I have a solid 2004 Chevy 2500 4x4 duramax with the Allison trailering transmission. I bought it new and it is literally like new now even after all of 20 years. I had a 96 Ram 2500 Cummins before that and the truck fell apart piece by piece. The engine was still ok but it must be said that it was really loud. In 2004 when I got the Duramax to replace the Ram as it became increasingly problematic, I didn’t even look at dodge. So not sure I agree with the basic theory here in any case. My Cummins dodge was a disappointment by the 5 year mark at the latest and the Chevy has been ok for 20 years all used the same way. By now the Chevy many multiples of the miles the dodge ever had when I got rid of it after 8 years, 5 being increasingly worse so it was no impulse situation. Neither brand dealerships were very good to customers
yeah this dodge endorsement is confusing i have heard those are the least reliable pickups
Had my 95 Cummins for 24 years, nothing major except the weak 47RH automatic transmission. I can’t see ever replacing it for the little amount I tow yearly.
Until you have to pay $6000 for a set of injectors on that Dmax. Good luck.
I HATE Dodge and teach my kids to hate Dodge. The Cummins engine is the only redeemable things about the brand at all. But I still would question the transmission, as Dodge transmissions are the worst, most treacherous units on the planet, across the entire Chrysler Dodge product line. I have SOOO many first had stories!! Stay away from Dodge! And if you get a Cummins (great motor, 6 cylinder, easier to work on than other diesels), take care of your tranny!!! 90% of the cars blowing smoke after a stop light/sign are Dodge. They burn oil, and they blow transmissions every 30K miles. Now go on and tell me how yours is great and I'll line up the host of friends and family who didn't listen to me.
Those Jeeps do suck ,bac in 1970and 1980 era under AMERICAN MOTORS THEY WERE GREAT
Most useful car ever, my 1974 Camino, cheap parts. Love it.
Didn’t he say the previous review that the Jeep Cherokee sucks?
That's Scotty for you lol
Yes, he did.
And the dodge ram
@nygreek: Scottie changed his mind for the right price 💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵hahahahahaha😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Scotty favors longevity and the 4.0 inline six tend to last.
You can get a chip that will help these things get 20 mpg nowadays.
Dodge / Cummins 24 valve engine: How about 29 MPG Highway!
Corvette. Cadillac. Camaro. Best hp per dollar on the planet. Fact
I would like to hear a conversation between Scottie and the Mayor (Dictator) of London, regarding the city's ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zones). There would be some REALLY straight talking. 😊
Love the looks and sound of this El Camino . Almost got one back in the day .
Dodge sucks. The engine will last, everything else will break. Junk.
I'll stick with my gas 6.4 and save thou$ands in repairs
I really like my 05 neon
How much did Chrysler/Fiat pay you for this video Scotty? 😂
I live near Columbus, Indiana home of Cummins engines. Great engines and serious Research and Development. Allison Transmission is just 45 minutes north of Cummins in Speedway, Ind. Indy 500 next to Allison
Your stock btw is good. Only company that makes money.
Marry Christmas scotty 🎄🎁 and i got my dream car and ive had it for 5 months now its a Toyota Camry 2009 2.4L LE
You should buy the most American car which is tesla
Lucky Grandson to get to be around Scotty.
Looks like the Cherokee has quarts of oil in storage. Probably “just in case” 😉
El Caminos are awesome. Fun to drive!
If we can get rid of DEF system. As you said if you dont need it to make money or pull heavy toys they are a money pit to drive and maintain unless your a deiseal mechanic. Everything cost more on those trucks.
Got to wipe that el Camino off of you lol. If ya know ya know
Merry Christmas Scotty, I’m a teenager who bought my first car and I love watching your videos to learn about your knowledge.
My 96 Dodge Ram with 5.9 liter diesel, gets 21 to 22 mpg on the highway, and about 12 mpg in the city. The air still blows cold and has never been worked on. The big problem I have is rust on the body now as I live in Minnesota where they salt in winter. I only have 64k miles on it too. Wish I could've found one back in 96 with manual transmission.
I like mine I have an 2007 Cummins with 350.000 and runs grate
Thoughts on a 2007 ford fiesta for reliability ?
My 2005 Cummins gets over 20mph on the highway.
yeah right, I have a chevy 2500HD turbo diesel with 380k miles still going strong.
So what....some people get lucky....ive had dodges with over 200k that were reliable....but that doesnt mean theyre usually good....most arent
Merry Christmas to you and yours, Scotty 🎄
The Ram guys are screaming at their screens "MINS! NOT MINGS!"😂😂😂😂😂
Getting to see that el Camino at the end was a treat!
I have a 2013 ram 2500. Had many problems from 80k miles on. Problems with the egr/Def system, needed a new transmission (manual), killer bolt issue and several issues. Although I had issues it probably still better than the other brands of trucks.
Engine is one thing , but for heavy towing you need good tranny and even more important is super big ring rear differential axle .. the bigger ring the more towing power.
Most of the hot shots delivering RVs across the country prefer the 2500 over the 3500 because it gets better fuel mileage😊
1.6 billion dollar fine!
PSYCH!! THE REAL Scotty “only car you should buy is Toyota” Kilmer’s real top 3 American vehicles are 1. Sequioa 2. Tundra 3. Four Runner 😊
The elcamino with that horn is quite the stereotype. 😂🍻
Yes Scotty dislikes certain models like dodge and Kia and Hyundai but!!! The exception is the year! And engine-trans mate combo Cuz some models and some years in certain models have a perfect matched engines/transmissions.
NOT every DODGE RAM has the same engine and some may have the same engine but a different type of transmissions.
That’s how it is with Kia and hyuandai
One 2010 sonata has a 4 cyl with a 5 speed automatic while the 2011 sonata 4cyl all have GDI engines (they SUCK!) or a CVT so the whole 2011 year is trash
Scotty trashes Some year HONDA accords also and some canary’s
Cuz they may have a 6 cylinder and they eat up transmissions quicker especially for people with heavy foot!
While the exact same year accord-or- Camry
In the 4 cylinder will last twice as long even for those led foot people!
Hi Scotty,greetings from Aruba !!!
The valve body in the automatic transmission dodge ram diesel from 2007-2019 are junk. You have to buy a BD diesel valve body to fix the problem.
Hi Scotty, always watch your videos. I have a 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo I6 4.0. It has 218k on it. It has the 42 RE transmission with the 242 transfer case. What do you think about this transmission and overall opinion about this vehicle? Thx much. PS: Who actually made this at that yr?
I can think of one front disc, rear drum setup that s**ks. Fox-Body Mustang with the 5.0. Talk about brakes that can be easily over driven. Classic Definition of brake fade.
Umm, Scotty, Merry Christmas, first of all. 2nd of all, didn't Cummins just pay 1.7Billion as a fine for doctoring Emissions? I guess, if you don't care about that, go ahead and buy a Cummins product.
Aluminum Ford body on a Chevrolet chassis with a 12v Cummins/Dodge drivetrain would be the only way this guys spending big $$$ on a diesel. I’d sure like to put a truck together for Toyota . Lot of money to be made.
You can’t beat them Inline 6s. I’ve owned 4 of them. Just sold my 08 mega cab 3500 6 speed a few days ago so I can get me a 2023 mega cab 3500 😁
I do not beleive it is fair to call this a Dodge because what's Dodge about it. You could put a cummings engine in KIA and say it now such a great car. It's kind of like how people think the cars driving around NASCAR tracks actually think these are Ford, Chevy and Dodges when they are not.
I know that truck! It’s from Huntsville Alabama baby
The oil change in this thing sucks arse. It's inside the wheel well, without access from the bottom. Make sure if you do it yourself to have a thick and wide band wrench, and plenty of rags. It makes a freaking mess. Do NOT double gasket it or you'll end up with 2 gallons of oil on the floor. Ask me how I know...
Sure older vehicles made in CONUS lasts, compared to today's ridicouslosly overpriced Chinese/Mexico made ,US assembled over the top blinged out recall prone money pits of today.
Ever wonder why some people swear by certain models of cars that may have a bad rep by other people?! Yet they may not of had a single issue and beat the crap out of it or not care about maintance on it and everyone’s wondering how that Nissan is still running? Cuz others cared for theirs by the book yet it fell to pieces It’s cuz the mechanical combo
Each type of design has either no flaws or a list of flaws and depending on what liter engine u get or if it’s a 4 speed automatic or a 5 speed automatic -manual .. well depending on the computer software ones faster or better on gas then the 5 speed. And if think but it’s a 4 speed it revs higher on the highway then the 5 speed. Right! But no it’s the way it’s designed YET it can be 2 cars exact same year and make and 1 will break down more then the other just because of a design flaw.
Don’t judge a car by its cover do some research on it.
Like ok u want a 4 cylinder Camry do you know they have two different four cylinders they have a 2.0 and they have a 2.5 same thing with the V6 Toyota Camry they have a 3.0 and it’s 3.8 some models a 3.0 and then another V6 will have a 3.5 but they’re both V6 and they’ll run completely different and they’ll have their own design flaw which could be a huge catastrophe or completely flawless but you have to do your research even though it’s the same with the four-cylinder or six there might be two or three different kinds of four-cylinder or two or three different kinds of V6 is in the same model car.
controversial opinion; all Italian produced and influenced vehicles are overpriced LEMONS!, might as well have Made In China sticker slapped onto it.
I have Never Been A Dodge Fan and Will Not Buy One but that’s my personal opinion that’s all. Some people like them but I don’t sorry Dodge fans.
So Cummins was just fine 1.67 billion dollars for installing emissions defeat devices. Pretty much the same diesel gate that VW went through.
Had 3 jeeps. Every time I bought one I said okay this one will be good. Nope. All had crazy electronics problems and started rotting
1 million Ram Cummins HD trucks just recalled because of cheating on emissions and Dodge/Ram fined over $1Billion!
Cummins, who just agreed to pay over a billion dollars in fines for adding devices to defeat emissions controls in Dodge trucks. Not Dodges fault but forget Cummins in Rams for now. You blew it this time Scotty!
Scotty, I trusted you ...
Folks I think an AI hacked Scotty’s channel and is trying to convince us that all of the trucks Scotty never liked is now recommending them. Or this is signs of early dementia. I’ve seen this before with our current president. It’s only gunna get worse from here. 😂
Howdyyawl from the land down under. No matter how old or new your ride is, if it's got wheels it'll give you trouble. Maintenance is the key to an enjoyable drive. Keeping it real😊
One Hyundai sonata may not have the same engine or tranny as another on the same year and one combo is better then another.
Same with dodge-Honda-Toyota- this is the reason why it may seem like Scotty flip flops! But it AINT THAT
It’s about the type of mated combo machanics
