3 Years ago I found the 2005 Honda Accord Coupe for 2500 with all the receipts on past maintenance done locally. Excellent ride and handling. Best car I've ever owned for a lot of reasons.
I had an 03 accord that ran amazing. It had like 260k km on it. The engine was smooth as butter. I had to change a caliper but most junk yards near by had parts readily available for it. Maintenance was only the engine oil and air filters every so often. Regret to this day selling it super cheap for like 750. It would've easily sold for like 1500 back in 2017.
I’ve got a 2006 Honda Accord, same gen as the one in this video. 258k miles, stick shift, no check engine lights and a/c blows cold and heater works. Never getting rid of it
Younger brother still wants to buy a used Jagaur and says they are "nice and cheap". I tried to explain to him that the repair costs would hurt him financially but he doesn't care. He's beyond saving😂
my sisters know that I have huge car researching interests. .....but they never ask my advice when buying a car, they just tell me after they buy a car & then complain about repairs/costs afterwards 🤷. ....and tell my I'm lucky cause my cars never break 😂
My mom has a 2007 Honda Accord… approaching 275k miles on it. The engine and transmission are still good. There are some stuff that are starting to go like the struts and some small sensors, but overall, it’s been a great car
2 years ago. Gave my daughter my 08 Mazda 3. Bought my wife a new Mazda 6 and started driving her 06 160,000. mile Honda Accord. She bought it new in 06’. I replaced the 02 sensor aft of the catalytic converter in 2013. Its under the front passenger seat. Recently replaced a weak alternator and serpentine belt. Other than regular maintenance,(oil & filter, air filters, tires and wiper blades), we’ve been blessed to enjoy this car and plan on driving it for many years to come!
There is one problem with having the check engine light on. If something else goes wrong, you won't know because the check engine light is already on. Unless you want to scan your car every day I say change the O2 sensor and be done with it.
@@RAFAEL199O I have a 2005 and whenever the engine light comes on which is only been twice I get right to it and fix the issue and usually it is super reasonable and easy
I took over my grandmother's 08 Lexus hybrid SUV with less than 80K miles on it. Yeah, it got some scratches and a dent but it's a Toyota with a V6, plenty of power, and one of the most reliable vehicles I've driven. Had to sell off the 2018 Hyundai hatchback because it was a victim of the Kia Boyz theft issue. Never again am I driving a Hyundai.
Those were my fav Honda's, I've had two of them and they ran perfectly, but both were crushed by horrible drivers. Just got a new Camry and I'm hoping it's the last car I'll ever have to buy. Thanks Scotty
I live in Europe, I drive a 2006 Seat Altea 1.9TDI (basically a VW, VW bought Seat in the past). Very low maintenance, low cost car, with plenty of space. I'm gonna drive this car until it's falling apart. Exterior is damaged here and there but still looks quite good. Absolutely no intention (or money) buying a new car for 50-60K+. Edit: Oh I forgot, this car is also around 3-4K used (90K miles on the clock, 144k km)
My son and I have had six hondas between us, including three Accords (2 diesels), one Prelude, one Civic coupe and an S2000. All excellent. I now have a Jaguar XF 25T, which I got new with my son's JLR discount. Also excellent and trouble free after over five years. I would love a Honda NSX 3.2 manual. Drove one once and it's better to drive than a Ferrari.
My accord was featured! Great car in manual transmission. This accord if taken care of is a very good car if you can find one& don't abuse it with higher mileage
I prefer Honda over Toyota, their engines and suspension are superior and Honda are the most successful name in the history of Motorsport Toyota make the best transmissions in the world I have to admit but can only match Honda engine wise with help from Yamaha and as a back yard mechanic I hate working on Toyota V6 engines, the layout is a nightmare Here in New Zealand (JDM land) there are so so many 90’s Accords and Civic’s still on the roads but very very few 90’s Corolla’s and Camry’s and the Civic’s get driven really hard, I see it all the time HONDA NUMBER 1
My 03 accord v6 has 300,000, i paid $250 for it 14 months ago running hot, no heat or a/c. I replaced the radiator and the blower motor. Drive it to work everyday 40 minute commute one way.
I have a 2008 dodge Charger sxt and man do I love this car and I actually have seen so many people sleep on these cars because it’s a Variable valve timing engine with a rubber timing belt but I just replaced mine because it was high miles and I’ve personally replaced most of the suspension and it drives perfect for having 190,000 miles I think more people gotta look into this car if your budget is 4000$ or less
I'd HAVE to put that new sensor in the Honda because the "check engine" light would drive me nuts and we don't have inspections in my state either! And piece of tape over it wouldn't help, it's an OCD type thing....
The serpentine belt is a big deal. It runs the power steering and the water pump. The k20 engine that was in these Honda accords from 2003 to 2007 is legendary; practically bullet proof and one of the best engines that honda has ever made!
My sister's boss is selling his 2003 Accord with 204.000 miles, manual transmission, also he owns the car since brand new in 2003 and it's selling the car for $2000 but has some rust just starting in the rear wheel arches.
I have a 04 with the same set up 190k original motor and transmission. Transmission is serviced every 25-30k and oil changes every 3k. Still drives like the day I bought it back in 2004 with 30k miles.
Even if they don’t do emissions in your state, it’s a good idea to change a bad O2 sensor/s. I basing this on personal experience. Have a a bad O2 sensor/s can make your car idle very rough, the tachometer go down and up while in idle, the short term fuel trim will go back and forth between rich and lean like crazy, obviously the check engine light will come on and lastly, can cause your car to stall. I say all this this because this just happened recently to my 08 CR-V. After I changed both O2 sensors (bought them from the Honda dealers and I say dealers because I had to buy one from on Honda dealer and the other from another dealer), all that went away. Then again, at least one of them were aftermarket (installed by the previous owner).
The downside to leaving the sensor the way it is is the check engine light might light up for another issue and the driver will never know because the light stays lit all the time. If there was a way to turn off the way it trips the check engine light then it would be best.
Dude, that's a freaking damn good point. I've been driving around for years with my check engine light on because my car runs so well it doesn't even phase me anymore. I had it checked once and forgot what the issue was (wasn't big) but I can't believe I never considered there could be an additional issue. Oh well, I'll keep on running it as it runs perfectly for a 20 year old Toyota.
To make that downside even downer (eh?) Is if that light is always on, there's a chance it could burn out, and like you said, something else could happen and the driver wouldn't know it
Name one important thing that the light signals that you wouldn't notice anyway. Back in the day we didn't need no stupid check engine light to tell us the car wasn't running right 😅
I owned a 12 Venza and loved it. But every once and a while the alarm would go off. It was so random. It had it all and I loved driving the V6 AWD 20inch panoramic moonroof. It flew. I wish that alarm problem never happened. I loved and hated that car
I had a v6 2006 Accord Hybrid that I drove until it reached 285,000 miles. Those v6 Hondas are super reliable.Edit: The interior (mine was leather) still looked like new after all those miles.
I'd stick with the 4 cylinder Honda Accord unless I could find a very rare V-6 6-speed manual sedan or coupe. Maintenance still required no matter what but parts are readily available which it helps
Finding an Accord for $3500 where I live would be as likely as finding gold in the streets. If the Lexus has such a great valve train. Why Is it so noisy?
I wish Innova would come out with an updated table like scan tool. I went out and got an XTool D7. Not happy with it. Won't show live data for my 4L V6 2011 Ford Ranger. I have a good Innova scan tool. Happy with it. But don't like that it connects to my cell phone. I am cheap but not that cheap.
I just got to say there's only one Scotty kilmer. I honestly don't think there is not one fault or defect in an automobile especially the newest ones that he couldn't figure out what the problem was he has shown that in his videos. Bless you Scotty for sharing.
Here in Belgium, I would have loved to buy a second hand is250. But well over €2000 registration fee and €900 /year on taxes on top because it is a 2.5, ridiculous! Our government is sucking us dry.
@@astafford8865 I currently own a volvo s60 t5 2.4 turbo and pay about €830 a year. I want to buy a 1.6 turbo, but there is hardly anything reliable enough anymore. Honda and Toyota start with 2.0i (no turbo's).
Thanks Scott! Great content as always. I'm looking at a 45,000 miles LEXUS IS 300h CVT Auto Executive Edition - please what's your view on this car, in general?
My 01 civic coupe 4cyl 4 speed auto went out exactly at 122k without warning Honda put a free tranny in (this was 10 years ago) and I traded it in for 02 accord 5 speed auto with 100k and 1 year later at 127k the tranny went out without warning. Again Honda said they realize it’s been a issue for the first 3 years of the new model body change over
Hey im about to buy an audi 80 2.0e from some older guy. Hes the first owner since 1992 and he drove about 100k miles. The car looks to be in decent shape but it got some light damage on the trunk. Its an automatic which i dont mind too much but its more difficult to repair ig. Hes selling it for 1200€ (im from europe). Thats all the money i own, im a broke college student and i know nothing about cars. Im not a mechanic. Should i buy the car?
I wanted a venza but the only thing that kept me from getting one was either they had too high mileage or they are to highly priced. So I went with a Honda accord I would’ve preferred a Camry but the price of those are ridiculous with high mileage and low mileage
Scotty do you think it's nessasary to bleed the air out of the coolant with that special funnel and with the bleeder screw on top of the engine? Just curious?
Hello Scotty been enjoying your videos a great deal. Just wondering if you've ever seen or had any experience with a Honda CR-Z??? If you can please make a video informing people of this unique vehicle. And your thoughts on it would be greatly appreciated😊
S orty, my 2013 mercedes e350 wagon won't start. I believe the starter is going. We've had a snowstorm yesterday and cold Temps. Should I tap the starter?
You sure it’s not the battery? My monte had a drain and sometimes id have to jump. People weee always like no man that’s the starter but I knew my car and it was the battery
Yeah not a problem until the O2 sensor dies completely, you won't know because the check engine light is already on, and then you burn the exhaust valves because of lean mixture.
98 Cherokee is the Peak of the Breed. Not the 1st "Urban Gorilla" but that 6 cylinder made it a silver back in LA traffic. Pretty good off road, so I'm told.
Scotty, we are looking to purchase a new vehicle I’ve been watching your videos religiously, We have been thinking Subaru Outback or Forester or Mazda CX5 or CX9 or the Toyota 4 runner , I know your love for Toyota but I’ve been leaning toward the Subaru forester because it doesn’t have a turbo? What’s your pick?
Those are both great choices..try them both and if the deal is good...go for it. Both Mazda and Subaru will serve you well. (If I could start a new car dealership those are the brands I'd want to sell. Period)
If you leave the check engine light on because of the O2 sensor, what if something else goes wrong and the engine light is populated with the O2 heat sensor?
I just missed getting a 2000 Camry with 110,000 miles for $3000 last week from an estate sale. One owner and looked new. 😢 And all the maintenance records were in the glove box.
Not always. I'm a senior and I mix oil brands, oil velosities, oil weights, etc, just as long as there is oil in it. My senior girlfriend doesn't even do this on her car. Yeah, I guess we were meant for each other.
03 accords were not a good year the auto trans fail at around 100-120k miles same with the civic it was actually so bad Honda gave free replacements for years from 2000-2003 years. But it was so long ago that if it was to go out now they’d prob not do anything about it. They don’t even give warning like some slip quickly or jump between gears like search. Between 2nd-3rd and back n fourth. They just stop suddenly like it’s in neutral and stops moving! Honda claims that a preventive to this is to change out the fluid religously every 20-30k miles and trans filter. Which is simple just drop the bottom of tranny pan and always do a drain and fill (NEVER FLUSH) and always use Honda Trans fluid
The Lexus IS 250 (of any year) is a carbon-buildup nightmare, as it has direct injection without simultaneous port injection. No serious Lexus/Toyota mechanic would recommend it.

@@astafford8865 I currently own a volvo s60 t5 2.4 turbo and pay about €830 a year. I want to buy a 1.6 turbo, but there is hardly anything reliable enough anymore. Honda and Toyota start with 2.0i (no turbo's).
Move to Australia won’t have to worry about all that rubbish they do in Europe.
Fantastic information
Thanks Scott! Great content as always. I'm looking at a 45,000 miles LEXUS IS 300h CVT Auto Executive Edition - please what's your view on this car, in general?
I bought that same Accord, mine's a 2004 with the manual transmission and I absolutely love it.
why tf is there a picture of a wax pen at 18:44 😂😭😭
Ayoooo 😭😭
Big up Scotty Kilmer Everytime
That Honda was brand new. Wat a steal
Thank you, Scotty!

Love Curious Cars. That guy is hilarious.
I bought a Honda Accord for 400$ and all I had to do was change the lower control arm but even with the old one it still drove great
September of 03' was the build date not 1993!😂
I caught that as well😂
I am planning on getting a 6th Gen Accord for my first car...
Nashville should really change their hockey team name. “Predators”sounds a little iffy 😂
In Australia. Prices are still insane for new & used cars.
Just got one from a senior $4000 for a Honda civic 2008 fully loaded. ( leather heated seats ) for our foster child. She is so excited.
That's great. How many miles on it?
I recently bought a 2013 Toyota Matrix S AWD and I love it!!!
Should I buy 2015 Honda crosstour 2.4 engine will it last?
My 01 civic coupe 4cyl 4 speed auto went out exactly at 122k without warning Honda put a free tranny in (this was 10 years ago) and I traded it in for 02 accord 5 speed auto with 100k and 1 year later at 127k the tranny went out without warning. Again Honda said they realize it’s been a issue for the first 3 years of the new model body change over
Where i live this car would go for about 7k.. looks amazing for its age
Hey scotty, i got my eyes on a 2008 Toyota corolla s. Would this be a good buy ?
Accords and civics feel like a cheat code in the used var market
I wanted a venza but the only thing that kept me from getting one was either they had too high mileage or they are to highly priced. So I went with a Honda accord I would’ve preferred a Camry but the price of those are ridiculous with high mileage and low mileage
Scotty do you think it's nessasary to bleed the air out of the coolant with that special funnel and with the bleeder screw on top of the engine? Just curious?
Good info 👍
Scotty where are you located I would bring my car there lol 😂 for you to look at it thanks for being awesome
👏
Disconnect the negative pole of the batery for 10 sec , and the check engine light goes out...
Hello Scotty been enjoying your videos a great deal.
Just wondering if you've ever seen or had any experience with a Honda CR-Z???
If you can please make a video informing people of this unique vehicle.
And your thoughts on it would be greatly appreciated😊
What's the best Volkswagen suv
I think the best used car in this video is the 94 Celica.
Scotty, I need your help. I would like to buy an older CRV. What do you recommend?
I bought an 07 is250 with only 98k kilometres on the clock for €5000😂 thanks Scotty❤🇮🇪☘️✌️
I had an old accord and now a newer one. If I could rebuy the old one new I would do it in an instant. Much better driving cars.
Why did he put a pic of a cart on screen at 18:45 💀💀
Ford Crown Vic!Tons of parts ,easy to fix ,could last forever !
I just bought a 2007 Lexus Is350 and traded in my 2007 Honda Accord for it. Love both of these amazing cars to death, good to know I’m 2 for 3 😅
I will continue to say that I wished I lived close to scotty. 😢
Some mechanics are shysters.
I live about 30 minutes from scotty right over ky/tn line but I respect his privacy and not going to be doing laps up and down his street
@@Drifter.I think they meant they would like to pay him to fix their vehicle
S orty, my 2013 mercedes e350 wagon won't start. I believe the starter is going. We've had a snowstorm yesterday and cold Temps. Should I tap the starter?
You sure it’s not the battery? My monte had a drain and sometimes id have to jump. People weee always like no man that’s the starter but I knew my car and it was the battery
@@natas12rm You were right, I replaced the battery. Thank you.
dosent the IS250 have direct injection
the problem with an always-on check engine light is that when a serious issue occurs, the driver won't know.
Seldom see a Venza on the road.
Why is there a cart edited in?
Yeah not a problem until the O2 sensor dies completely, you won't know because the check engine light is already on, and then you burn the exhaust valves because of lean mixture.
hey scotty can we get your oppinion on the 98 jeep cherokees with the 4l inline 6?
Period)
Drove the Outback from Florida to NC. It was an awesome drive.
Does anyone know if these have to have the manual valve adjustment he has talked about.
If you leave the check engine light on because of the O2 sensor, what if something else goes wrong and the engine light is populated with the O2 heat sensor?
Always buy from a senior and you know it’s been well taken care of.
Assuming they remembered to change the oil. LoL
I just missed getting a 2000 Camry with 110,000 miles for $3000 last week from an estate sale. One owner and looked new. 😢 And all the maintenance records were in the glove box.
Just got one from a senior $4000 for a Honda civic 2008 fully loaded. ( leather heated seats ) for our foster child. She is so excited.
Not always. I'm a senior and I mix oil brands, oil velosities, oil weights, etc, just as long as there is oil in it. My senior girlfriend doesn't even do this on her car. Yeah, I guess we were meant for each other.
I am 80 and change my oil every 6 mths or 5k. But since we don't drive much we change oil at more like 1.5k
Not the dab pen 😂
Can you recommend a good obd computer?
Jag älskar min Suzuki grand vitara 2,5 v6 4x4 1999!!!!!!! Underbar bil.
The Lexus IS 250 (of any year) is a carbon-buildup nightmare, as it has direct injection without simultaneous port injection. No serious Lexus/Toyota mechanic would recommend it.
An IS 300 or 350 then?
Yep!
Also the 03-08 Accords with transmission problems but it too is being recommended.
🤷🏻♂️
The lights on that Lexus should be covered under a recall. Clearly a safety issue.
