    Hey Jay, love your stuff. And I was pleased to find you reviewing some Triangle speakers as I own a pair of Triangle Signature Thetas that are likely only a slight step down from the Duettos, and they are fantastic! I hear the very same things from my Thetas as you are describing with the Duettos. I’ve been listening to them for nearly one year now, and am still blown away by things I hear. For those not quite wanting to spend 6k for the Duettos, they can probably get (guessing here) 90 to 95% of what the Duettos give for $4,500 or perhaps less. Still not cheap, but Lord, what speakers! And I find them to be every bit as beautiful with exquisitely crafted cabinetry.

    I was looking for a decent bookshelf speakers and made a choice and bought the Borea Bro3, great speakers, lively with good tone. I thought okay, maybe i should try further up and bought the Geneses Trio, different animal, nice but too laid back in comparison to the the Bro3's, so sold them and secured a pair of Comete EZ 40th anni , sound wise sits in between the bro3 and Genese but with more finess and tone, not too mention enough bass to please most people, great speaker. Run them with a Willsenton R8 with upgraded tubes, very nice. I would think the Magellan Duetto could take me to the next level, if I had the funds Lol.

      FRENCH VERSION:
Bravo Triangle !
      ENGLISH VERSION :
      I also have the 40th anniversary comets, and it's a treat, I had seen the genesis trio (which have been replaced by theta from the signature range) too and I'm happy to read your feedback on them. Above all, the fact, in fact, of confirming my feeling that the path of the anniversary versions was the best. I knew what I was looking for was in this anniversary release. I had my comets at 1272€ delivered with the feet included, all brand new of course. The genesis trio was at 1400€ from memory and the theta at 2000€, only the speakers. I hesitated to put the price in the theta, but for a first purchase of speakers I was not psychologically ready to let go of so much money. So I chose the EZ 40th Anniversary Comets; I thought it was a good compromise between sale price, finishes and sound quality (signature range wiring, assembly in France, and quality control behind, cabinet reinforcement...) A real anniversary version in short. They are on the SO4 feet dedicated to the speakers and it's a real treat. I am currently still looking for the future amp that will accompany them. I am happy to see in this video of Jay, his feedback on the Triangle sound, and particularly on the feeling of this anniversary version, it is the same thing to a lesser extent for the 40th anniversary comets. Thank you for explaining that the sound of Triangle has evolved and that it did not stay in the 90s where it was so many emulated, for good or bad for some... Never has the Triangle sound had so much emphasis and refinement, everything is details, subtlety and softness. They still keep their lively, fast and energetic character, with material, a very beautiful acoustic work. Go listen to these anniversary versions, the work is very real. Well done Triangle!

    I auditioned these speakers and they are superb in terms of clarity, dynamics, detail and power. In my opinion they should be paired with a powerful amplifier to get the best out of them unless of course the listening room is small. I like how it handles high frequencies in terms of attack and pretty good dispersion, unlike the Triangles Comete 40th anniversary, however I did notice that it has a darker tonality similar or the same as the Comete 40th ann. and for this reason I am looking to replace it. There is plenty of attack in th highs an I commend Triangle for designing such speakers because many loudspeakers at this price tend to roll them off.

    What you describe is exactly what I felt when I bought my triangle titus ez. Amazing speakers that hate bad mastering of songs, but will give all bits, details and listening pleasure if it's recorded right. After so many experimentation and tweaking/upgrading I finally found good matching: burrbrown dac chip with opa1612 opamp and 5w single-ended tube amp with 6v6 tubes.
    I just came back from hi-fi expo, I heard a lot of $8K equipment there and i thought that they are all selling snake oil. I manage to get that and even better quality of sound for $2k.

      I paired its bigger brother the Comete with an Advance Paris A10 Classic and the sound is absolutely surreal, I suppose it's thanks to the tube preamp.
      I also have a hard time finding anything that sounds better for the price. It's disappointing when a sales guy "shows off" a home theater or stereo setup expecting me to lose my mind and I ask the price and I'm just underwhelmed by the terrible value for the sound compared to my garbage apartment with zero acoustic treatment and speakers too close to the walls.
      I'm hoping to get the Willsenton R8 to see how that sounds with all of my speakers, also want an Ares II or Pontus II to see what that can do for my ears, but that's probably going to be next year.

    I own the Triangle 40th Anniversary Magellan Cello speakers also in the stunning Golden Oak finish which are the floor standers a step above the Duetto. I drive them with the Luxman C-900u & M-900u combo and the sound they produce is simply magical. They are exceedingly well balanced and revealing of fine detail but always very musical along with a stunning recreation of acoustic space. While my digital source of the Metrum Acoustics Adagio sounds excellent with them, they really blossom to an entirely different level with my analog source of the Nottingham Dais table with Origin Live Enterprise C tonearm and Ortofon Cadenza Bronze cartridge into the Audia Flight Phono. I can listen to them endlessly being captivated by the realism they portray of my favorite recordings. I've owned many speakers over the years but these are truly something very special with the level of sonic performance they achieve as well as their stunning finish quality. Like the Luxman electronics they have a very high pride of ownership factor.

    It's good to hear that these like to be close to the rear wall. I have no choice but to position my speakers that way. I'm in a 9x12 room and for several reasons I'm forced to put the speakers along the 12 ft wall. I need the rear of the speaker cabinet to be about 1 ft from the rear wall to give me approximately 6 ft from speaker baffles to my ears. Right now I'm using front slot ported Usher Dancer Mini-X DMD with great results. I'm considering Ariel Acoustics 5T and possibly Triangle. All opinions appreciated as to whether the Aerial or Triangle would be a noticeable step up

      It's not the same goal, monitoring speakers are made to be precise and helping the sound engineer to make his job. In that context, it's a tool to work.
      I'm not saying, we can't listen some music with this kind of speakers, of course we can do, but "maybe" in audio, there's more nuances which can exist.
      The flat and precise signature, can be a bit boring and can cause fatigue on a listening session.
      "Hi-fi speakers" include the notion of enjoy listening music made. And so many aspects comes into that game, and for the most so subjective.
      In all cases, the goal is not the same.

I should try them with my RC1590/RB1582 mkII but my setup is really cramped and enclosed and it would be a pain switching it all up.
    Don't get me wrong, compared to the Comete it is on another level, clarity and crispiness is up, bass is just on another level and home theater capable, soundstage and imaging are both better, the Theta's are artists in every sense of the word but now I need gear to match them in value and quality lol.

    I have been wanting for this review Jay, thanks so much for the detailed info. of these generous limited speakers from Triangle! I have a quick question for you, that this pair seems like Triangle has significantly improved the center imaging over the Comete 40th anniversary that you reviewed before, so is it worthy to purchase this new pair over the Comete? Thanks and have a great day!

      I have the Comète 40th anniversary speakers, they are awesome!
      Keep in mind that, there is a noticeable step up for each range of products at Triangle.
      Of course, they are some differences but that's normal, it's not the same price.
      But don't worry about the step up, it will be there for sure. 🙂

      I also own the comete 40th Anniversary and love them! However, these are soooo tempting to me….but the increase in price is significant! I’m not sure these would be enough of a step up to warrant the premium. That being said, these are so aesthetically gorgeous….my credit card is screaming at me to do it!

    These are nice speakers like the dynaudio heritage very limited numbers. How do they compare to the theta signature

    • @Skyouu
      @Skyouu Год назад

      Magellan is the flagship line, it's definitely a step up above the signature line...
      Even the"normal" duettos are far better than the theta, so in 40th version... Of course it's far superior.

    • @Jayiyagi
      @Jayiyagi  Год назад +2

      Geez. They are so different that I don’t know where to start ! Tektons are more full range but ugly (imho) … and I guess the rest.. they perform on almost equal grounds other than the triangle’s exceptional staging ability. Hopefully that gives you somewhat of an idea. Id stop there before I write and entire essay.
      Also tektons are less bright/forward if that is your thing.

    The non updated Magellan series was notoriously hard to drive because of low impedances (a problematic curve..). Guessing this wasn't improved too much
    With my Triangle Signature floorstanders (which is a step down from the Magellan line) I feel I am getting part of the sound character you're describing. But they pair well with the R8, and going from solid state to tubes greatly improves the sound stage depth.. So while that beautiful Hegel will probably not be lacking in that department (nor in any other), I feel it is still worthwhile (but quite hard) to find a good tube amp to pair it with

I still enjoy vintage gear and that is how I got into it as I couldn't afford anything where I used to work (high-end audio retail store) but my current system mostly consists of modern gear - but remember that my system is forever changing because I like to experiment and try new things !

    When you say, more expensive speaker is hard to match with a amplifier and you have to work at it and use your amp. Well I’ve always said that is an excuse and I get out clause you spend all that money on speakers they should bloody well work with pretty much most amps. Yes you’ll get a different sort of sound signature but to say they don’t work, unless you spend, for example, $19,000 on the power amp, not including the preamble which you never mentioned what that was that’s a lot of money to keep a $6000 speaker happy and to be honest just buy a really good quality amp with tone controls, rather just pissed off a lot of people, but that’s the whole idea you turn down the top and a little bit then they’re not as sharp on the top end not as fatiguing a lot better than spending 19 Grendel amplifier and when he said how sensitive they were 80, something dB fatty terrible. You can buy speakers on average which are 94,96 dB easier to drive not so fussy on the amp so basically don’t make excuses for expensive gear if it doesn’t work well just say so don’t spend the equivalent of a brand-new SUV car to get him sounding good are you wouldn’t make excuses for a lower priced item, don’t make excuses for an expensive one

    • @Jayiyagi
      @Jayiyagi  Год назад +2

      Well. Your argument is old and commonly refuted by real life examples. You can do all that but you won’t be getting the triangle’s performance to the dot.
      It’s like adding an exhaust and tune up to a low maintenance honda civic and saying it is just as good as a Porsche that needs much more ongoing maintenance.
      Not looking down on anyone in either situations as great sound can be achieved in both but complaining about price, set up/maintenance required for max performance and saying that it’s useless because it’s too expensive and inconvenient - is an argument that falls flat to people in this hobby (remember that we do not “need” any of these stuff, it is all about “wants”

    • @Skyouu
      @Skyouu Год назад

      +1 for Jay on that one, expensive speakers needs expensive gears to have wonderful performances.
      It's not about having some expensive stuff, and not either to have speakers which work on the half way...
      Triangle needs current, current is expensive.
      More seriously, it's all about of 6K speakers, do you seriously if you could buy them imagine to have a amp which is not matching with this kind of speakers range ? You will be disappointed, and you will change that of course.

    These seem like pretty fantastic speakers and they certainly look Really nice but they cost $11,000 AUD + a further $2,000 for the stands. $11,000 Australian would be Really pushing my budget and an additional $2k is too much plus it sounds like they require a pretty specific amplifier too.

    • @Jayiyagi
      @Jayiyagi  Год назад +1

      sure but you would need a separate EQ or a unit with tone controls. I also find that EQ done outside of the digital domain to constrict sound staging. At the end of the day, if you like everything about the Triangles but find the highs harsh - then sure go for an EQ but there are other options on the market that has less high freq definition if that is what you are after

      Appricate your response. In my audio journey listening to audio reviews is like trusting people with cologne. Have you ever gone to a Macy's and smelled different fragrances and said to yourself who in their right mind put all their time and effort to market and sell something that smells disgusting to you. 🤔 To the team that developed the product, it smells wonderful!🤔🤯🤫. As long as musical instrument sounds like it supposed to all else is pure fluff. $20,000 for a stand mount speaker is just plain ego at that point in my opinion. As you are well aware, put that money into the room because even a $200,000 consumer speaker sounds like shit played outside compared to when its in a well treated environment. Its mostly opinion anyway but there is a big difference in price from a $10 shirt to a $50 shirt and a $6,000 stand mount and a $20,000 stand mount. Like $14,000..😇 People are free to spend what they like but it sure seems silly!🙄
