Incredibly well done, not only the ocntent, but your presentation. your audio and editing are on point, and content wise you absolutely killed it. I was researching these bulbs as I'm about to do a home automation video on them (home assistant related) and you covered them wholistically amazingly well!
My local Home Depot is currently selling these bulbs for $3.97 a bulb. I definitely stocked up on them. I have Philips Hue bulbs for my primary living spaces, and I'll be putting these bulbs in less frequent but still used spaces where I don't need the deluxe bulbs.
like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ruclips.net/user/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....
Very nice, although I noticed quickly that you were mistaken about not being able to create Zones within rooms. You can. Easily. They're called groups. If you're still using the v1 app instead of the v2 beta, it's just a matter of dragging the icons on top of each other. Then you can control everything in that group together. I'm also a little confused about you not being able to set the bulbs to go back to their previous setting when you turn them on through the app or the remote because that is EXACTLY the behavior I'm seeing on mine. There's even a setting in the app to select if you want this behavior or a different behavior.

There's no voice option for scenes/rhythms/schedules/light modes. You can ask any compatible voice assistant to on/off, set brightness, change to a color but they the names of the light modes/rhythms/schedules shown in the app are not voice accessible.
The Wiz app has changed to Wiz V2. The in-app system has changed, there’s no “Add to Siri” button. So, I’m having some trouble adding scenes to Siri. 😩 an update would be really nice. 3:31
This may be a silly question...but does your phone need to be connected to the same Wifi for this to work? I am looking to get some bulbs more for security reason, so that I can control them through my phone even if I may be in a different city.
I like how the Christmas celebration setting alternate colors between green and red. Wanted to create a 4th of July to alternate among R, W and B. Is there a way to create/new Celebration settings?
I have both and both are cool. I have a lot of nest cameras and google displays in my house. Every wiz light connects separately to my WiFi and slows it down. If you have lots of stuff on your WiFi you really need the hue because they all connect to the hub and just the hub connects to your WiFi. The bad about hue is it doesn't have all the scenes in wiz and the circadian rhythm option. I really wish I could find a way to do a circadian rhythm on my hue
Thanks for a great video Justin. I have both. I just bought the Wiz the other day to use outdoors. Figure if somebody is going to steal them, they can have a $13 bulb instead of a $60 bulb. Still playing with them but I find the colours just don’t seem to be natural. I would buy more for outside but would hesitate to use inside.
Thank you for this comparison video! Wiz would have been great for me if I was just starting out but I’m far too deep into the Phillips Hue ecosystem and I love the better features.
My entire garage is set up with WiZ bulbs ; 6 x 100W E26, 8 x 50W GU10 bulbs. I do A LOT of filming and photography in the garage (as a studio), and being able to manipulate every aspect of these lights as groups, or individually is perfect for setting the right scene for filming. I love setting scenes, because I can set up the lights once, and then replicate that lighting each time, making colour rendering in post-editing much, much easier. The voice control also helps a lot by being hands free ... if I've got too much light in one corner, I can say "hey google, turn off front right bulb" or "hey google, turn from right bulb down to 25%" all the way to being very specific with "hey google, turn the front left light to 3200 Kelvin" and it is a great tool! I can't say enough good things about how much these bulbs have improved the quality of the filming. I'm currently testing out these lights as grow lights in the garage (no windows), and want to see how the English Ivy plants respond to the plant growth lighting option. Great video and thanks for this!
Mine just loses connection with the wifi or the app, I'm not sure. One minute it works then the next it doesn't. Any ideas because I full Wi-Fi and good signal and sitting about 10 foot from the lights.
I just got a hold of some of the wiz bulbs this month. I had been using Geeni bulbs for a couple years. Really like the wiz bulbs as an upgrade and they feel better built. I haven't tried HUE yet, and maybe there have been some updates since this video was made as I find the colors quite accurate for the most part. Overall, I've had a positive experience with smart lighting as a whole. However, when I've had issues, I'm glad I didn't put a lot of money into this right up front.
I want to install smart lighting in every part of my house at one time, but the price on hue has postponed it several years now.. wiz makes me gonna do it now, with so low pricepoint...
Hello, has the application option to turn off the light at a specific time? For example a want to turn of the light on 23 p.m. Is it possible? Thank you
I combine my Philips hue whit Wiz in my living room. Works fine. Wiz lights trips underneath or behind the furniture works fine for the mood. Hue i use for the sunset, Wiz don't have that.. and, at the end i use led color candle lights for final touch.
Note to @justin_Tech You didn't touch on how to rearrange the light colors in the app. Think you can do that? I've had the Hue for years now. I found it was more of a novelty than useful for my kitchen. One of the 3 bulbs burned out. So, instead of spending $50+ for one bulb, I bought 3 Wix bulbs and 2 for the front porch (which I DO change the colors of) These were a great deal considering the Hue cost. They still make light. They still can change the colors. So, if you're a techy person but want need to dump hundreds into "lights" then these are for you.
If you set up multiple lights to a room, you cannot schedule the lights in that room to run different themes or colors. For example, if you have four lights assigned to a room you cannot program them to run different themes/colors/light modes from each other. You can manually change each of the four bulbs to whatever colors you want but each room group must only have one scheduled theme for all bulbs in that room. Rhythms also cannot be scheduled. To get around this, you can just create multiple room groups. For example, I have a light outside each of my garage doors that I wanted to be able to schedule different colors /themes from each other. If I had assigned both to a single room called garage/etc, this would not be possible. Instead, I have a room for garage left and one for garage right. My front and back porches/patios also have multiple lights. To accomplish the same, I created multiple versions of patio/porch. When using voice commands, if I tell Alexa to turn off the garage lights, she will ask garage 1 or 2. Although in the Alexa app, you can set up lights to their own groups such as 'outside', 'driveway', etc and Alexa will just follow those commands
I have three Phillips bulbs on the same circuit. Only two will connect. ? Isnt there a simple turn on and off setting at certain times. Thats all i need.
ill combined them but I really would love to upgrade my 60w to 100w. it really does make a difference in the home. in the end ill keep my standard hue set up for teh most part. Also wonder does the Wiz clog up wifi bandwidth?
I use tp-link M5 mesh wifi and everything works fast. There is no limit how many light you can add to wiz system. There are 800lumen 1100lumen and 1600lumen wiz connected bulbs with e27. Google "wiz connected"
Better then HUE imo, and more versatile.. price is the same range here almost, i can get 2 HUE bulbs voor 28~ and 1 Philips smart led for 22~ (1000+ lumen) The smart led is better, app is good, wifi instant without hassle and a expensive hub.. for lights the Philips smart led is a win overall.
I've got the 2 systems side by side in the 'primary' areas (living room, dining room....) I use hue and in secondary areas I use WiZ, by now the changed the behavior of the lamps if the power cuts out, so just like with hue you can give them a scene or state to wat they need to do, and that's a good thing because in the hallway I use them as normal bulbs with a traditional switch, and have them set in a scene with soft pastel colors. So they just provide a little extra ambiance in my hallway.
My Wiz app with iPhone just stopped responding. I powered off and on the phone and it didn't solve the Wiz non-functioning issue. I then deleted the app from the phone then downloaded it from the Cloud via Apple store. Then it would let me do anything. I tried to Create a Home and it said Verification Failed. I tried to log in via one of the third-party options it gave and is said I first have to have created a home. So this Wiz app is now worthless. I have to turn on and off the many Philips bulbs the old fashioned way. Any thoughts on what went wrong with my Wiz app on my iPhone?
I was at the Home Depot today and saw these. I had to do a World Wide Web search to see if they work with hue or not. The box did not say. I am sticking with hue. However I did pick up two of the smart bulbs for a back lighting I use in my video production for my class. Very confusing that they created something that looks so much like hue. I understand owning more of the market. You see that all the time with companies owning different companies to gain more market share. However they marketing on the box’s are confusing and makes it hard for the consumer to distinguish
For me the Wiz 9w with B22 heats up like crazy and then hangs up and starts blinking between warm white and cool white. I am using it in a open socket and not in any enclosures.
I bought a couple of the wiz bulbs. The only thing I don’t like is they don’t sync the same colors in party mode and other modes. Each bulb changes into its own random color. I’m not sure if his is different with hue?
Some Hue effects can do all at the same time. Some effects are meant to change bulbs differently. But Colorloop for example on Hue Labs is all at the same time. You should watch my Ultimate Smart Home Hue episode!
The Wiz specs claim to have a CRI of 90+. I use an Aputure 120d mk II for YT. Do you think these lights are suitable as supplemental fill/rim lighting or should I stick with only using the Aputure 120d mk II?
I have a Hue hub and some lights already but the problem besides cost is they just don't have a great range of lights. I have a ton of 5/6" recessed cans all over my house that use the standard BR40 bulbs. Yet Hue doesn't make any products for this, neither the right bulb size or integrated recessed lights. Instead they only make the less useful BR30 light. Wiz on the other hand has integrated 5/6" recessed kits for that are tunable with white and color for half the cost of Hue's white-only warm-only BR30 bulb. Seems like a real miss on Hue's part.
Maybe they updated the software my bulbs always leave off at the last setting it was on. Kind of annoying if your last setting was TV mode, so you want bright white the next time you turn it on you have to do it in the app. I absolutely love them and honestly can't tell the difference between the two.
Go into the individual bulb setting. See Power-on behavior. This allows you to enable/disable Wizclick or last status. Wzclick allows you to configure the manual switch to set your favorite light mode based on how many times the switch is quickly flipped. If you want bight white when you first flip the switch manually, you set that as fav 1, etc etc.
I bought Philips Wiz lights recently and there's Bluetooth logo on the box, next to the WiFi logo. Does it work on Bluetooth only after initial pairing via WiFi? I don't want too many devices connected to my WiFi network.
From what ive gathered wiz is good for having just 1 or a couple of bulbs as they congest the wifi, anything more than that you should get hue. With Wiz every bulb connects to wifi but with hue the bulbs connect to the hub and only the hub connects to wifi. hue is over all better quality but of course they should be they cost more. If you have a small space with very few lights wiz might be the better option but if you have a bigger space with many lights (up to 50 per hub) the Hue is the way to go.
I found a pair on special for my Driveway lights but they would not connect. I was able to download the app, set up a room, make them pulse hook my wifi to the app but I would put my phone right up to the bulb with no success not even in manual mode. I did not know of the remote so are you saying without using my wifi I could manage some colors and turn on and off? I have a feeling the 2.5 ghz is to week to communicate to the outside. I will call tommorow and see if customer care can help me. If not do you think the remote is worth investing in?
Hello everyone! I’m just getting started with smart lights. I am interested in buying a couple of Wiz for my dining room (don’t need any fancy effect, just wanna try them out) but I’m worried about wifi connection…for those who have them, do they actually clog the line? Thank you!!
Please tell if Philips Wiz Bulb will require accessing location on the Android smartphone application????? I want to buy it (13W E27 version) as a gift for my relative who wants no location access on smartphone. Not having such a bulb I installed WIZ application on my smartphone and refused location privileges when asked, and the application still seems running. However I can't fully test it without a Wiz bulb.
I bought both to compare and the feature I like the most is when I turn the lights off it will fade off I can’t seem to find that feature on the hue . Has anyone else ? That’s a deal breaker to me
i have the 2 of the bulbs in my fan, i have them usually on one red and one blue, is there anyway they can alternate colors, so the red turns to blue and the blue turns to red?
Only the effects that are on the app. There may be a 3rd party that can do this...I mean you could program it on Alexa maybe....I have to look into that.
I do both. Hue is still my favorite but for places where i only need some "extra" light i go with wiz. Espacially rhe light strip 3m for 60 € doing a perfect job. Nevertheless HUE ist in the end better from my perspective
Hey Justin. Is there a way to make ambient tv light work with Wiz. And if yes, how can I obtain it. Does some second party products work with the wiz app. Like the philips hue, you can pair some other zigbee components that is not made by phillips hue?
I have a question for the group. Does “Routine” work if you physically turn the lights off and back on again from the light switch? Or does it go straight back to default after it’s turned off/on?
The use of the physical switch will follow favorite color settings chosen for each bulb if you enable/setup the wizclick settings for each bulb. Meaning, manual on/off 1-4 times will set the light to one of 4 set favorite colors for that bulb. If a manual switch is used during a scheduled routine/theme/light mode/scene, all lights connected with the switch will have that theme or routine cancelled. Instead, if powered back on, the lights connected to that switch will follow the favorite color set for each bulb (assuming you set the wiz click up). If the manual switch is off, the lights stay off. When the next scheduled routine is due following the use of a manual switch and that switch is flipped back on, the light(s) connected to that switch will display the next upcoming scheduled routine.
IFTTT is a joke now it has gone Pro only at $3.99 a month. Not really sure Philips would bother having a competing brand until I suppose to complete with cheaper rivals. Although you lose some functionality it also makes Philips Hue kit is exceedingly expensive in comparison. Nice video anyway Justin. Glad you got all that glitter off after Halloween
I’ve had the wiz bulb for around 1 month, at first it was fine but now the connection through the app and the bulb is horrible so I just ordered the hue......I’m sure it’s a “ you get what you pay for scenario 🤷🏻♂️.
@@meemali4815 I actually just figured it out. The key is not to use the switch when turning it on & off to get the manual mode working. You have to unplug it instead. That's what finally got it working for me.

Bought a pair for my electric fireplace to make the flames more realistic with the app. Will pick them up tomorrow, cant wait!
Awesome video! Would Hue work intuitively with Smartthings?
Wonderfull and clear video. Thumbs up.
Thank you! Cheers!
Muy bien detallado, gracias por la información. Saludos desde Lima Perú
Any thoughts on what went wrong with my Wiz app on my iPhone?
i just found these on sale/clearance for $13 for the 2 pack... i bought 6 pairs
Where was that?
Same here, got them at home depot
I bought the wiz on sale for the 2 pack as well at Home Depot. I ordered a bunch!
Are you able to control all 12 lights at once? I heard there’s a limit of 10 for Wiz.
Siri Shortcuts is not the only workaround. If you have homebridge setup, you get the lights and scenes on HomeKit directly.
Totally agree it’s difficult to tell they aren’t compatible. It’s in such small font on the box.
Yeah I bought these without realizing they weren't hue. Why would Philips partition themselves?
Nice explanation, thank you for the information. I like the functions via the app!
Of course! :)
Is the maximum brightness too dim if you use warm colors?
Is the WiZ Portable Button good? 🤔
Will the Wiz remote control work with this light bulb?
Can you control each light separately in the same room?
Hi, I need to control the bulb remotely, I.e if I'm away from home.
Please guide
Can you control 6 lights at the same time? I two pendent lights 3 bulbs a piece
Great job on this video!
Thank you!!! 🤓
Seems like a real miss on Hue's part.
scenes cannot be scheduled. only light modes (White, Simple, and Dynamic) can be scheduled.
Hi can you do a review on new wiz app v2 and smart sense technology
Maybe they updated the software my bulbs always leave off at the last setting it was on. Kind of annoying if your last setting was TV mode, so you want bright white the next time you turn it on you have to do it in the app. I absolutely love them and honestly can't tell the difference between the two.
Yea I was wrong about that - I missed that setting. Thanks!
I don't want too many devices connected to my WiFi network.
nice video Justin
Just got the Wiz. What do you mean by not returning to last state from off? It works for me
Yes, you're right. I got that wrong when I made this video. Thanks
Do you have tried scheduler on wiz app?? its worked?? Mine not worked. I test turn off at certain time. The lamp not turn off
Are the colour dimmable on the wiz bulb?? If not is there nay bulb like that??
Yes you can dim the color
Is wiz just a more expensive alternative to Smart Life products?
One of my two driveway lights is far enough away for the wifi signal to be spotty.
Hello everyone! I’m just getting started with smart lights. I am interested in buying a couple of Wiz for my dining room (don’t need any fancy effect, just wanna try them out) but I’m worried about wifi connection…for those who have them, do they actually clog the line? Thank you!!
I dont know how to change the color on my led lights pls help
How do i change the name for each room in lieu of using A19 Daylight 2?
Click the light in the wiz app, then click the round settings wheel, click the name line and change it to what you want(:
Please tell if Philips Wiz Bulb will require accessing location on the Android smartphone application????? I want to buy it (13W E27 version) as a gift for my relative who wants no location access on smartphone. Not having such a bulb I installed WIZ application on my smartphone and refused location privileges when asked, and the application still seems running. However I can't fully test it without a Wiz bulb.
I love this video! Thank you!
Question. You mentioned I could “create” a zone using my voice app. How can I group rooms using voice assistance?
Using Google or Alexa, create a zone/room that includes a bunch of lights from rooms on the Wiz app. That make sense?
I bought both to compare and the feature I like the most is when I turn the lights off it will fade off I can’t seem to find that feature on the hue . Has anyone else ? That’s a deal breaker to me
i have the 2 of the bulbs in my fan, i have them usually on one red and one blue, is there anyway they can alternate colors, so the red turns to blue and the blue turns to red?
Only the effects that are on the app. There may be a 3rd party that can do this...I mean you could program it on Alexa maybe....I have to look into that.
Why can’t the app find the bulb when I leave the house?
Not that I know of!
How do I use it on pc?(the wiz app)
I have a question for the group. Does “Routine” work if you physically turn the lights off and back on again from the light switch? Or does it go straight back to default after it’s turned off/on?
Well it depends on when the routine will be in effect. If it happens after, then yes it will be fine. If it’s during, I’m not sure.
What about the music sync, it's compatible?
To my knowledge, no.
Thank you !
If it needs 12 smart Wizz bulbs does that mean i will have 12 devices loading the wifi ?
Really like the side screen for zones
If I schedule wake-up to 7am for an example, does it start to gradually get brighter at 7 or is it the brightest at 7?
I believe the fade will begin at the time you choose. Gradually starting at 7.
@@Justin_tech okay, thank you!
Where do you find the color wheel?
Con number 2 can be changed in the settings
thanks!
How do I set up the light strips tho I’m trying to set it up but it won’t connect to the app
When I try to find the light strips in the app the app doesn’t find them
Unplug the light strip, then plug it back in 3 times to reset. Close app and restart, maybe even delete app and redownload.
Connect to wifi 2.4 not wifi 5
@@salsa-3510 hold the power button on the switch down for a few secs and they will begin pulsing. I only learned this after some trial error.
Hmm, been trying to set up with your will hue video. Lol.
how do you change wiz colors
What about syncing with music and tv background
IFTTT is a joke now it has gone Pro only at $3.99 a month. Not really sure Philips would bother having a competing brand until I suppose to complete with cheaper rivals. Although you lose some functionality it also makes Philips Hue kit is exceedingly expensive in comparison. Nice video anyway Justin. Glad you got all that glitter off after Halloween
Hahaha only took a few days! 😜
My house doesn't have wifi, is it the bulb still working without wifi
I’ve had the wiz bulb for around 1 month, at first it was fine but now the connection through the app and the bulb is horrible so I just ordered the hue......I’m sure it’s a “ you get what you pay for scenario 🤷🏻♂️.
Yea I always say "buy it nice or buy it twice"
How did u get ur led strips to connect I’ve been trying to do it for months and can’t do it😂 pls help
Did anybody answer this for you? I’m having the same problem.
Same😢
@@meemali4815 I actually just figured it out. The key is not to use the switch when turning it on & off to get the manual mode working. You have to unplug it instead. That's what finally got it working for me.
Is the “Party” option anything like Hue Disco? Because I won’t bother if I can’t dance to Kylie Minogue’s new Dance Floor Darling. 🧐 (😅)
Not at all! Hahaha
Do you know why my phone won’t connect to the led light strips?
This is pretty interesting, although I’m not with those sacrifices I can definitely see some other people getting this. Overall, a good video 👍
Exactly!
