This video made me feel nostalgic because I am from a small town. Thanks to Google Earth I just took a quick trip to my late grandma's farm. I am going to draw it in this style.
While watching this I think”I’ll put in our church steeple…and then you do it…then I need some cows…then you add cows…see…we truly are “birds of a feather”. Thank you for this video! Another different challenge. My art teacher also said anyone can learn to draw. We just need to practice! Makes me feel like I’m home in England ❤️🥰
Your art teacher was right! So was Jane Austen when she wrote "I would have been good at playing (piano) had I taken the time to practise" or words to that effect!!!
Thank you for making me believe I can do this. At 60 and have always been into crafts in general but could never imagine picking up a pencil or brush. After suffering a shoulder injury, I've been unable to do most of them . I joined a 6 week art therapy class in April, and while it wasn't for me ( too technical and literal), it did lead me to watercolour, and I'm hooked.
Diane I LOVED this landscape tutorial! Would you please do another one? Mabye a cute seaside town in this same look?? Small boats in the foreground... with seagulls... OH MY !! This is soooo awesome!💞What ideas you have given me!
Diane, you’re comments make my day, and your painting is inspiring. As a retired “old” nurse, I am beyond disappointed and shocked at what my profession and in fact the whole world accepts as “normal”. Thank you for your comments, not many people feel the courage to say the truth. God bless.
It’s true, courage is needed on this planet of ours. I am often mocked for telling the truth, as if it was a sign of weakness. I pay no heed! My life was literally saved several times in the 80s by “old” nursing skills and I suspect nowadays the outcome would not be the same. Sending up prayers for you xxx
It was quite therapeutic watching you bring this village to life. I enjoyed every stroke and color. It is certainly a place which would be wonderful to call home. Did I say I absolutely love it? Bravo and thank you.
I love this and representation of where you live. This gives me inspiration for a place where I lived in the mountains of Colorado. Thank you for this!
Oh, this reminds me of the days when my neices and nephews were small, we used to draw together like this, it was so so fun. Now they are teenagers and 2 are 18. I missthem days. I love this piece of painting it's so full of life and inspiration. Thank you Diane. 😊
Diane, thank you, thank you, thank you! Who knew learning to paint with watercolors and learning that even I can draw would be so fun! You make it so, with your whimsy and always giving me a chuckle or two.
Wonderful comments about drawing. I have noticed that those who draw very well still practice at it every day to improve. I think we can all do it and improve, with practice. It's more if it comes easy for you, you're more likely to do it, more likely to practice. I know I spend time powering through drawing, even though it's difficult for me, and other times I can't bring myself to, and it's because I need things that are more relaxing to do. I love your art. I love this village scene. Thanks for the tutorial.
Oh Dianne never undersell yourself. We will always need you. Take care. With all the weather trials you are experiencing know that some of us have been there and recovered because of art in all forms. Thank You Cheers
Hi Diane, I've thoroughly enjoyed listening(mostly) to your delightfully cheerful description of what you were doing while I drew and painted my own tiny works of leaves, flowers, and various insects. I feel so inspired to create my own doodly images of all the things in nature that I love so much. Your thoughts on creating your composition, what to include, who and what's in it, amplifies my own inner process. I learn from you to enjoy the simplicity and lack of concern for making things look too perfect. The results are so lovely and fun!! Thanks for sharing your ways of making art. It's encouraging and joyful!! Best wishes from So. California. 🎨🐾☘️🍒🐌
Wow. You know, I looked at your finished landscape & groaned...because I don't have the imagination to come up with that ! Maybe it's trying to figure out how to translate images I remember to a 2 dimensional drawing that I struggle with, but it's definitely a mental roadblock. Either way, I am grateful you share your your insight & abilities with us. ❤️
This is so beautiful. You could do all sorts and with children on holidays they could even make them into fairy maps for girls or pirate treasure maps for boys. As well as entertaining it helps with their creativity and their imagination . This is just an amazing idea .I love this 🥰
Thanks Christine, what a wonderful imagination you have! I have been so impressed by the ideas that people come up with based on the simple things that I do! That’s a brilliant idea!
I love this so! Grateful that you shared this process with us. I have always wanted to do one of these sort of paintings but just couldn't figure out how it was done. Reminds me of when I was a teenager and we moved to Belguim...I thought I had died and gone to heaven. The houses and cobblestones streets, the meadows, just so clean and fresh. Thank you again for taking the tme!
What a lovely memory Trina, I can really relate to that having lived in Germany and felt the same way about their lovely streets and houses and field and woods...... maybe I'll do a central European one for Christmas!
So delightful! It feeds my imigination! I grew up with a chair upholstered in a Grandma Moses print, in the 1950s. I loved to sit in it and trace the roads to the various houses and fields. I didn't realize it at the time, but this was my first exposure to art! She didn't start painting until most people retire and kept painting for a very long time. I love her primitive style and they stories that played out as you passed the many buildings. Thanks for the inspiration to try my had at painting my childhood memories!
Did this card. So pleased with my result. I will share with you once I figure out how. I hope to do a similar style of my Niagara Falls region in Canada 🇨🇦
Diane, this little village makes me incredibly happy! There's so much color, life, and energy in this charming painting. It's quite enjoyable watching you sketch, and especially helpful for people like me that are still learning. Your creativity continues to amaze me. Thank you for this fun tutorial.
Interesting way to make a scene come to life. Still deciding on where I want my version to be. I may need to do more than one. Good advice on the greens. A way for me to keep my work from looking too flat and giving definition without having to draw a line. Will be working on this later today. I love the suggestion someone made to fo a seaside town. Someone else a pirate map So many possibilities. Thank you.
Oh, and you’re right about drawing. I was adamant that I couldn’t draw until I started following tutorials by Shayda Campbell and found that I actually could. I’m not in the same league as either you or her but I can turn out fairly decent sketches.
Thanks Deirdre for your kind comment. It's interesting isn't it, and I wonder how the myth arose, that only people with a special talent could draw? And yet at the same time we can believe that everyone is capable of learning handwriting with a pencil or pen? When you consider how complex handwriting is, and how simple drawing can be, that seems crazy to me. If we were all taught properly as kids how to convert something we see into a drawing we would all master it in no time. I'm glad you are more confident now, and daily practice will make all the difference to your league ratings!!!! LOL x
Hopefully, you have had many opportunities to illustrate children's books. You are perfect for that!. The Scobie book is good, I can tell you have really improved on her assignments in an eye popping way. You are really expanding my imagination. A good thing I get to start on Scobie book 2 sometime next year!
Ah, yes, I will do another video about that book soon, and once I’ve finished it I’ll go on to a second one! Thanks for reminding me to follow through!!!
Brilliant! I can't wait to make one for my home and for each of my friends! I'm practicing drawing tiny deer, bears and turkeys instead of sheep! I'll probably throw in a vulture or two also! Oh and REAL mountains. Like we have here in Colorado! :P Thanks so much Diane!
What a completely fun project and a joy to watch you create it! So envious of the A. Gallo watercolors - they look absolutely gorgeous but for me prohibitively pricey!
Hi and Maggie, yes they are pricey, and if you want something similar but much much much cheaper go for the Kuretake 48 pan set. The link is in the description below. I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos!
Diane, I wish to be a member but am unfortunately unemployed at the moment. Also going through chemotherapy. I'm in the hospital now and enjoying your video this a.m. I live in a very rural area and can't wait to get home and try to create my own little scene. Could you maybe do a short video and include all the little farm animals and show me how you would draw a mini alpaca or some horses. Those are common around me.
Sorry to hear you’re having to have chemo at the moment Michelle, and I wish you a quick and complete recovery xxx Yes, that’s a good idea to try to paint alpaca. They are very sweet animals and I thought about getting some before we had the sheep!
Oh my gosh! Ditto here. I’m from a small town now trying to figure out how to do this with special “landmarks”, the school, church, our house, my dad’s office. Or, cute downtown?
It's just lack of practice, I would say. And I don't draw without a form of inspiration near at hand. I paint mostly indoors, and I always have a photocopy or a screen shot of "something" in front of me to give me inspiration. It doesn't have to be the 'thing' I'm drawing or painting. It might just have interesting colors, or be slightly connected to what I'm drawing. It stimulates my brain into action!
This video made me feel nostalgic because I am from a small town. Thanks to Google Earth I just took a quick trip to my late grandma's farm. I am going to draw it in this style.
And I love hearing the roosters in the background while you create such a bucolic scene!😍

I think a seaside town would be interesting!
I love how you allow us to sketch whatever comes yo mind without worrying about perspective or dimensions. Thank you💖
You are so welcome!

Diane, saw this again, with my grandkids. They love it!! The twins are 10 & the youngest is 7.
I loved it again♥️
Diane, thank you, thank you, thank you! Who knew learning to paint with watercolors and learning that even I can draw would be so fun! You make it so, with your whimsy and always giving me a chuckle or two.

My pleasure 😊
Diane this was absolutely fabulous!!! Love to watch & learn!!😊
I love every bit of this. I’m taking a line and wash class by “Housesketcher” right now and I’ll be trying to combine these styles 🥰🥰🥰
This reminds me of Richard Scarry's books for children. I believe that is/was his name. My kids loved them half a century ago
I just took a look and yes, there's some similarity. He has much more detail and more perspective though! Mine are a bit less professional!!!
This drawing and painting are totally fascinating! SO beautifully done! I would love a painting just like this one on my wall! Homey! Delightful!
This is so cute! The countryside in France… love it. I keep thinking my neighborhood wouldn’t look that cute!

I bought that book! I really enjoy it. But your videos are way better, and much more fun!
All the books you suggest are wonderful.
I am fascinated with your drawings!! This one is sooooo pretty. I just LOVE it!!! I’m going to see if I can do something like it🤔
