/rant ahead As a KPop fan, a musical theatre geek, and as someone who watched Legally Blonde the Musical a gazillion times, this is so so painful to watch. Jessica is a good pop singer I'll give you that, but she is in no way a musical actress. The high note in the end? God. I've seen high school productions do it better. I wasn't expecting her to be like Laura Bell Bundy when she acts out Elle's character because of course this is the Korean version and the characterization would be different, but she couldn't even act and she looks so awkward in stage it makes me want to cry. Please don't justify that she is an "ice princess" hence the emotionless portrayal of Elle or that she's just a beginner here or that she has a tight schedule as part of SNSD during this time... she was the lead role in a freaking hit musical from Broadway! Accepting the part means you know you could do it and you could give it your all. The least she could do is give the character of Elle Woods justice! It's just so sad that the producers cast idols in these lead roles so that more people would go watch the production to generate more profit, when there are all these people who study musical theatre so hard but couldn't even land a role. South Korea, let idols be idols and stage actresses be stage actresses, dammit. And in case someone tells me that I shouldn't judge based on few minutes of a showcase... I did actually watch this whole play of Jessica, thank you. It was just as... uncomfortable.

2:21 is a total miss. that part was meant to shade warner's performance in bed that she's gotten so good at faking it but jessica's execution was just so awkward. love her as a singer but needs a lot of work in acting
She performed this as if it was a SNSD stage performance not a musical theatre performance. She connected with audience more than she did with her fellow actors. It was painful to watch. Tiffany did brilliant in fame but Jess totally missed the mark with this. She could have been a great Elle if it wasn't for her stage presence. It's good but it's the wrong type of stage presence needed for theatre.

I only say this out of love of musical theatre and out of respect for Jessica - for all her talents, Jessica is out of her depth in musical theatre and it is fact that we may overlook, if only there weren't many other talented musical theatre actresses in Korea, which I believe are aplenty given the rather thriving musical theatre scene in Korea. I can safely say that casting Jessica in this is only for one purpose - to use her star power to drive people to the theatres. Of course she isn't perfect but I commend her bravery and I respect her for trying her best and trying to be a better performer! At the end of the day, the musical sold well, and Jessica is now performing on the musical's second season!

She can barely catch her breath and she's been mumbling the whole time, not to mention she sings like a third-tier amatuer.... This is NOT musical, more like a final project from art school, high school even.

I personally think she sings kind of nasally and soft. Her voice is very poppy and she has pop style habits that shouldn't be done in musicals...like ever. But I think she fits Elle Woods. Even though this isn't the best version of "So Much Better," I think Jessica does have something special in her that makes her Elle Woods. The voice adds to the effect by making Elle seem slightly weaker and more Valley Girl styled.
