This is an absolutely incredible performance for everyone. Of course the actor's ventriloquism is off the charts - you literally cannot see his mouth even TWITCH during some of his lines, without losing any of his clarity or singing ability, which is already leagues ahead of every other Flynn I've seen. And Roxie's performance is spot on as well. I loved all her little movements and choreography, and the bit at the end where she gets so excited seeing all the reporters repeating their story was such a humanizing choice! I also loved her little applause while Billy's actor was belting out that second to last note. Really incomparable stuff
@@원원-r2h I'm also really curious about a Korean's perspective on this. Since I'm American, I know about the American "roaring 20s" culture & moral clashes of this time. @L2 Sentinel Due to covid, there has been lots of restriction for live performances in Korea. Right now it’s not allowed for audience to cheer or make any noises. The only way to appreciate cast is through applauses. And also, this was a presscall performance where reporters barely make any noises (to record a “clean” version). I’ve been to this duo’s live performance and the audience applauded after each number.
I think my favorite part of this is that as he belts out that final long note, you can see ALL THE DANCERS BEHIND HIM STARTING TO BUCKLE, because he's able to keep the note so long.
if you don't know chicago, this is Roxie Hart's first press conference (tl;dr at the end) She's the show's lead, and in the first song we witness her murder her boyfriend (and in the second, her husband takes the blame until he discovers they knew the victim; that's why she's in jail in the first place). After managing to get the reputable Billy Flynn, known for acquitting guilty women (through sly tactics, as we see here), they meet the press in order to start building Roxie's innocent persona on which to build her case. Roxie Hart explains in a monologue how she loves vaudeville, and always wanted to be in a vaudeville act; that's why the songs are very vaudeville-esque; this isn't the real events, it's Roxie's imagining of them. This is much clearer in the movie version, where they can switch between real life and the show Roxie and Billy are making of a case. This song obviously uses ventriloquism, and it's symbolic to Billy feeding Roxie answers before the conference/him talking on behalf of her. She's a puppet to be molded into a housewife who regrets her actions. Just in case someone doesn't know, the ensemble joining in at the end is the indication that they're feeding into it; the scene directly after this is reporters shouting headlines that declare her purity (leading into Roxie, which I would love to see from this woman) Billy-as-Roxie speaks about love at first sight with her husband, cheating on him with the victim, him trying to shoot her; as she grapples with him, the gun falls and she reaches it first, shooting in self defense. This is all lies, in All That Jazz she sneaks up on him with the gun. tl;dr the lead, Roxie, has her first press conference where she feeds a cover story about the murder of her boyfriend. the ventriloquism acts as symbolism to how her lawyer, Billy, has fed her these answers and/or speaks for her
Love this rendition so much, I keep coming back to it.
The man's voice is just a miracle, what a singer!
@@whathe.
@@whathe.
@@whathe.
I... wouldn't have expected there to be a cultural demand for a Korean translated version of Chicago as a stage musical.
There's a Korean production of In The Heights as well. I don't know much but I get the feeling their theatre scene might actually be fairly big
girl literal kpop icon jessica was in korean legally blonde LOL its on youtube
There's a Korean version of almost every major musical, even shows like Fun Home and Next to Normal. I can honestly say that some of the best casts I've ever seen have been Korean.
I wouldn't have either but after seeing this, it feel so right
And there will be Hadestown in Korea this September! The actor playing Billy in this clip is one of the cast members as Hermes.
Min Kyung-ah is an excellent Roxie!! I love how vacant her expression looks when she's being "puppeted", and I think she really nailed the almost childish glee Roxie gets from being the centre of attention!
The absolute brilliance of his held note at the end, and then going into the final run while still singing AND dancing is incredible. Kudos to the actors playing Flynn and Roxie, and the whole cast! I'm sure this rendition was phenomenal
I actually think they do this better than the Broadway version. That ventriloquist act is on par!
This is honestly the best Billy Flynn I have ever seen. Holy shit. How did I wander onto Korean musical theater youtube
This is the best version of this song I've ever seen. They're amazing.
It’s so neat to see this song re-written in Korean- but it still flows and rhymes just as well as the original!! (Not to mention, the dancing is incredible.) So cool!
i love chicago so much that i didn't even register it being sung in korean. this is such an incredible performance!
I kinda wanna watch it. This Roxxie is just so cute. I love her energy, great casting.
Very impressive production and the actor playing Billy Flynn has a wonderful voice!
What I love so much about that last note that he holds is that it shows his control over the situation. Everyone waits for his cue to continue dancing.
5o be honest THE korean version is my favorite version. I swear to god, that koreans don't do anything half assed! The actresses portraying a hard as nails gun moll/ party girl is spot on! 👌 🎉🎉🎉🎉
This fella is one of the best Billys I've ever seen do this number, seriously
Oh my GOD. As a fan of Chicago I have to say this was AMAZING. I can't understand a lick of Korean but I want to see the full performance!!!
What a lovely performance! The man playing Billy is incredibly talented
STANDING OVATION 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Choi Jae Rim is simply divine as Billy and wow oh wow Min Kyung-ah, superb with her expressions and characterization.
They're fantastic! Roxie has flawless control of every facial expression and gesture... and Billy's lips really don't move!
Ok, now I wanna see this entire production with English subtitles. I’ve heard the Broadway version, but I want to watch THIS production.
hi! if you're interested, i've just uploaded an english subtitled version of this video to my channel. :)
wow the acting from both the male and female roles were so good!!
This version is fantastic! The guy playing the lawyer has such a good voice for this song
wow - this is perfect! from the mimics to the singing..
Fantastic, would love to see the whole thing. I don't understand Korean, but I know Chicago very well, so could follow along pretty easily
Oh my God,,,,Perfect,,,,,Congratulations,,,,Salute from Boston, USA
The choreography is stunning and damn that guy has a voice!
Wow he's wonderful! Effortless and natural without taking away from the style of the piece. Authentic charisma!
This is absolutely insane !! One of the best I’ve ever seen
This is by far the best version I have seen and heard. My heart is racing, I have tears in my eyes. Unbelievably beautiful.
I've seen this live in english, before I saw the movie, and I don't speak korean; this is my favorite version.
I’d love to see an upload of this casts cell block tango!
Honestly the best performance of 'We Both Reached for the Gun' that I've seen!
