Dumplings (vareniki) with potatoes are a national Ukrainian dish.
Ukrainians also cook dumplings with sweet cottage cheese, strawberries, cherries, etc.
Especially delicious vareniki were made by village housewives.
Each cook has her own recipes for dumplings.
This recipe is from my hardworking and cheerful Ukrainian granny Feodosia.
Dough
✅ 600-650 g flour
✅ 1 egg + water = 250 ml
✅ 1 tsp. salt
Filling
✅ 4 large potatoes
✅ 1 large onion
✅ ground black pepper
✅ salt
Optional
✅ 1 large onion
✅ 100 g bacon
✅ vegetable oil
✅ sour cream
✅ a little butter
✅ dill
