@@hoborec Hi Ulf. Great course. Absolute goldmine of information. Thank you kindly. 🍻

I’m originally classical music guy, being a fan of Black metal and grindcore, and I’m completely with you guys. One of my heroes is Kurt Ballou. His production is purely amazing when it’s about that RAW & RARE.
Ulf's production style reminds me a lot of Mieszko Talarczyk's (from Nasum) style. I love that raw, dirty and loud Soundlab Studios style from albums like Helvete and Shift (Nasum), as well as Rotten Sound's Exit and Blodsrit's Helveteshymner. A lot of the albums you've mixed also have that sound! Especially love the two latest Aborted albums and all of the Benighted albums you've worked on.
Excellent video as usual from yourself and Ulf. CRAWL are one of those bands who play HM-2 pedals and get a free pass for NOT using noise gates. 🤘🤘 Top marks again for the Disfear hat Ulf!
@@hoborec Haha! The first time I ever played along to a CRAWL track at home, I thought I had a feedback loop going on in my DAW. 🤣 Can't wait to buy the course next payday!
Wow! I record and mix very similar to Ulf. I love to record full bands live in a studio or studio-like setting, I don't like di's and I rarely use samples if I can help it. I'm still not at Ulf's or Kristian's level yet.
Me and my fellow musicians from my old band recorded our demos LIVE. Only the vocals and additional instrument lines were done after, everything else straight up live. If there was a fk up, play again. We had 2 8hr days to record everything on 3 songs + mixing. Same with our second demo, 3 songs 3 8hr days.
Thanks, this interview was great. Can someone tell me some example/s of a "dirty" amp to use with the HM-2? Is the amp usually with a little gain in crunch channel or better a little gain in disto channel?
To be honest i think you can go with pretty much any amp. It will always sound like a hm-2 no matter what. There is a part in the course where I go through the differences of putting the hm-2 in front of clean channel, drive channel and directly in the fx return of the amp. You can also totally just plug the hm-2 directly in to your interface and slap a cab ir on it.
Hi Kohle how are u ? Just a small question, can u say what he told at 7:14 "I like to use whatever the band........." cannot understand the word....?! Thanks and thank you for that kind of vidéo whith the idea if making the music human and natural again. I am sure that the past is the future and the "back to the roots" for some approches will make productions more interesting and pleasant to hear.
I also recommend to always try the gear of the band first in order not to repeat yourself too much. Still very important to have some good great available in case their gear sucks.
Don't you think the problem is more of hearing that same Djent sound coming from several different high-gain amps with a 7 string guitar because the IRs or cab and mic positioning doesn't change?
Use shitier mics to record guitars and vocals and stop trying to chase other bands sound. Maybe sing through a crappy PA and then mic that. Record, experiment and create your own new sound. Stop using what other bands use for mics, guitar speakers and so on.
it's not just the cost of space it's the cost of setting up a venue for that amp and having a venue that can be used at high volumes you can get dirty productions with plugins
How many strings the guitar has isn't really the issue. Morbid Angel used 7 strings on Domination. Some people play six strings and tune them down to Bb.
That's a bit harsh 😄 I'm actually impressed with a lot of "modern" productions because I wouldn't be able to pull it off. The reason for that is obviously that I'm not interested in those genres. I focus on what I vibe with hehe.
what I hate are the "riffs" of most downtunes music. all that random high noises and fast notes and tappings... and I like Meshuggah! There's no good melody or anything, it's semi-random low high low high emptiness.
Absolutely hate fishman clueless pickups. Terrible fizzy neutered top end. No balls. I think that is the beginning of bad production today. That and IR's are just shit. They will never equal the analog. This sterile djent sound today has bled over into metal. Metal should be either pushed or scooped in the mid range. This modern sound is neither.
Say hello to ULF everybody! Is he dirty enough for you? 🤩
Helloooooo 👋
ULF!! 🍺🍺
I like it dirty! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
ULF was my favorite character on Rune: Viking Warlord on PS2 🤘

@@hoborec Awesome!! And nice to meet you.
cant tell you how much ive been looking for information like this
Happy to provide! Thank you very much ☺
Time to get dirty!

Love the Rotten Sound stuff too!
Killer list buddy ❤
thank you for talking about the fuzzyphone, it's always nice to see it used for records production in your studio ❤
You're welcome! It's a fun tool!
Yes! Nice to listen to some rawer and dirty mixes!
I just finished the course from Ulf. It was really interesting ! Especially the stereo guitar trick ! The "tractor" bass tone was really cool too :)
The stereo guitar trick blew my mind!
Now it’s time to mix the song buddy! 🤘
Oh man -- love Ulf! This is great -- thanks Kohle!

I mean without that squealing ear piercing feedback it would all fall apart 😂

One of my favorite dirty, filthy, brutal modern bands is END. Absolutely sick.
That collector HAD to be Johan Segeborn, the mad swede tone scientist himself.
Haha, no but Johan has made a lot of videos with this collection.
This is great, I love some dirt in my recordings

I would like to hear the drums at 7:00, that's not a snare technique that I'm used to.
Get the course and you get all the tracks!
12:19 Puppy!
(very important for filthy sound)

Can you pls make Brunetti profile(s) for the NAM?
For what?
@@KohleAudioKult Neural amp modeler. It`s everywhere.

Haven’t checked it out yet.

Let’s call it “unpolished” maybe?

just use real amps, problem solved 😂🤡🎸
dont have money for that

modern metal sounds terrible undiscernable, mixes are terrible especially the 7 and 8 string pieces
