Great video. I have been shooting 30 shot groups also so it was very interesting to see your results. Great shooting and it’s safe to say you’d see even tighter groups in better conditions. Well done and thanks for the video.
Awesome video, Ultra! 👏 I had to grab more hot coffee and a blanket watching this 😄 🤣 I wonder if the Biathlong group would have been smaller if it was your first group before you froze, lol Great shooting, and thanks for getting out in that mess to make us all a video 😊🎉
I do believe the Polar Biathlon group would have been tighter if it was first. By the time I was halfway into the group I could not feel my trigger finger due to the cold and pulled the trigger using my arm to pull my finger back instead of a nice finger pad push or squeeze. Also, the wind was picking up a bit as the temperature was dropping during the second group. All in all, things were getting a bit sloppy compared to the X-Act group. So much so as pointed out by another I targeted the X-Act POA while shooting the Polar Biathlon group. However, I saw enough of the Biathlon group to rank it a decent round. Originally, I had intended to shoot the three 1-inch bulls eye squares under each group for a quick accuracy showing but things got too cold too fast, and I didn't think I could focus and offer a credible attempt.
@22rimfireultra67 Yeah, that looked super cold, buddy!! 🥶 I shot in -28° last year, and it was not fun. Rounds were sticking in the chamber, and like you, my fingers were gone 🤣 It gets darn cold up here in the sticks. I have some Polar Biathlon, but my rifles don't like it much. Maybe it wasn't cold enough yet? I did put a compensator on my Bergara, and it seemed to bring them in quite a bit. Maybe I will try some in the same weather you just went into. I think it's coming here soon. It actually should have been here at the end of December. We are late this year, which scares me. Think we are in deep trouble for the end of January until the end of March first of April 😰
Well you’re a very brave and dedicated shooter. Interesting results between the two. I’m guessing the biathlon is a bit faster to make it group higher and slightly left, but the X-Act certainly pulled the best group. Thank you for your dedication.👍
Yes, the Polar Biathlon (1099 f/s) is a bit faster than the X-Act (1069 f/s). The X-Act group is actually tighter than I indicated. It was pointed out by jackjill that during the Polar group I shot a round into the X-Act group. This round was high and skewed the measurement. Re-measuring gives a reading of approximately 0.49". Good consistency.
Thanks for the video. The groups look similar. Been doing some research it's hard to find good ammo near where I live. There's a shop that has x act and thinking about getting some. Getting into biathlon 50 meters with diopter sights is hard.
It got cold during the Polar Biathlon. All I could think about was a blazing fire and something hot to drink. I wore 'skateboarders' mitten/gloves to unload and set up. Nice and warm. But switched to thumb and index finger 'open' gloves for shooting. That works with obvious limitations.
Another Great Demo Thanks for sharing and sacrifice 😝 Great groups and answered my question Lapua shoots just fine in Cold Climate. On the polar was thinking name like that if it was somehow better in the cold maybe as far as a different lube or what not? Thanks again 👍🏻
The Polar Biathlon is slightly faster than X-Act. That plus maybe the burn rate makes it a better choice in the cold? They both shot pretty good today.
Appreciate your videos. Quite. I tried shooting a couple days ago. Temps were somewhat colder: 6-10F. The effect on precision was huge. I couldnt tell if it was the scope deforming due to the cold, or the barrel, or the ammo - or maybe me! But I gave up after an hour or so because it was obvious that even after re-sighting m scope I wasnt going to do much good. Also using Lapua Polar ammo.
I didn't seem to be having any issues with the rig set up. But I was having trouble with the fingers. They reach a certain level of cold resulting in loss of sensation and fine motor use. 6-10*F can take a person down pretty quickly!
As of this post Polar Biathlon supply seems to be nearly exhausted in US on my search ,with the price at approximately $195 USD. X-ACT is not available anywhere with the last internet prices listed being approximately $350 USD. A very recent RUclips video from The Gunslinger 4570 interviewing the Lapua rep at Shot Show 2025 reveals worldwide demand affecting supply. This most likely results in premium pricing. A brick can go pretty fast! Thanks for the insight.
So I did! Good catch! On re-checking, that would give X-Act a new measurement of 0.49" (roughly). Also, on counting X-Act shots, there were 34 fired in stead of the intended 30. I blame the cold! 🥶😉
Thanks for the effort to produce an informative result.

Dang, Dude! 😶
Just watching that made me cold! 🥶
Good looking rifle and great shooting, considering the conditions. 👍🏼

Hi, in Australia a brick of Center x Polar Biathlon n is $341 and a brick of X-ACT is $539 its madness

At 8:13 you shoot the wrong target.

Do you ever think we as shooters are not the smartest creatures on earth? I would have been out today if the wind wasn't blowing 20mph.
It is telling what drives us to be sure!
Frost bite in the winter and sun burn in the summer 🥶🥵.
