I made this dish exactly as you said and it was by far the most authentic, delicious leg of lamb that I’ve ever made! I love love love all of your recipes! Thank you!
As someone who been to a Crete island in Greece, I have to say. This has to be one of my favorite Greek dish. It is so flavorful and the meat is juicy and tender. They cook the potatoes with the goat juices 🤤
Hello. Lamb leg is currently marinating and tomorrow morning, it goes in the oven. [Edit] It was GREAT. Everybody loved the dish. [Edit 25/11/2022] Still keeping people happy with this recipe.
Yesss all that roasted garlic! Making this for this Easter 2021 my husband has been wanting leg of lamb forever, I usually just make make a small lamb roast and slice it super thin for the best gyros. I have to say your videos have brought lots of Greek dishes into my home. The saganaki recipes I learned from you are my favorite to make. Steve's too!! I make greek potatoes exactly like you for a couple decades. ❤️🌹
I've literally just finished cooking this and I've had a bite to taste and it is absolutely delicious! The only thing I changed was putting a lot less salt due to my lamb leg being smaller and I put one lamb Knorr cube in the marinate. Thank you so much for the recipe, glad I can add this to my list of meals I can cook!
I’ve saved this video from last year ❤ Now that Spring has sprung 🌺🌸🌼 tonight’s the night for this - 45 mins left in oven 😋 THANK YOU from an Irish woman living in the UK 💚🇮🇪
My girlfriend love lamb and i make all sort of lamb recipes, i found that slow cooked lamb in crock pot usually turns out to be a success. I use red wine tomato paste garlic onion thyme base and always seared the meat first in olive salt pepper.
I made this recipe today for Easter!!🌷This was so delicious and my family enjoyed it very much! I will check out more of your awesome recipes soon!! Thank you!! 🥰😊
Your family is so fortunate to have you as their husband, and mother to feed them dishes like this. I would love to be able to cook lamb like that myself at home, and have it come out looking so delicious.
Thanks for the recipe and how-to video. I made this, and you're right that it's super easy. I love lots of garlic too, and what I did afterward with the cloves was grind them in the food processor with some salt into a paste and had garlic spread for a few days! I did the same separately with the onions.
Great Recipe. Those that wanted to see the lamb sliced, lost the plot. The essence of this video is to show a simple Greek way of preparing and cooking a leg of lamb. Thanks Dimitra
Thank you :) I remember filming this video and finishing late in the evening. We had to wrap up due to lighting issues... Thanks for your support and understanding. All the best!
Dear Demetra, thank you so much for τηε nice and simple instructions. I live alone in Dubai where I work, and I am unable to travel to Cyprus for Easter, so I'm here learning to cook. Thanks to you I made an excellent lamb in the oven. I deviated a little bit from your recipe, some times we don't have all the ingredients and it is difficult to get them too, however the result was excellent. I think what made a big difference was the lemon juice. Best regards and Happy Easter (Καλό Πάσχα).
WOW! I need to try this! Incredibly simple! I´ve would've added just a tad spoon of honey in the last 30 minutes roasting and when it's cooling some rosemary to gain flavor to create that golden crusty-flavory glaze on top of the lamb.
I just made this recipe today for our Sunday lunch/early dinner. It was super yummy and flavorful and we have lots of leftovers for this week! It was my first time making a lamb leg in the oven, great recipe indeed and super easy. Thank you Dimitra ☺
Yiasou Dimitra! I use a very similar lamb recipe for Easter (Pascha) with one minor exception. First, I cut many of the garlic cloves in half. Then I make deep cuts into the lamb with a pairing knife. Finally, I insert the garlic clove halves into the holes before adding the lemon marinade. You just can’t beat our authentic Greek recipes. Yiasas!
Love your recipe, really looks great. My mother would dip whole garlic cloves in a mix of salt, pepper, Oregano and pierce the leg, stud it with the garlic. Yiasou
You make it so simple with your use of salt, pepper, and oregano...I'll be trying this one soon, especially with small potatoes unpeeled... greetings from Galveston, Tejas
Watching this again i am reminded of our Chef who used to come to our home when my parents had large parties,. although they both cooked certain dishes themselves they also had Steve come to augment what they had done. I loved cooking, which i found and still find one of the more creative Arts and Steve was a great teacher; since i would watch him constantly preparing and cooking foods he taught me a lot of things only professional Chefs know and some of his secrets. One was to cut a garlic clove in half then to rub it into the wooden salad bowl to help season the bowl for the salad for Caesar Salad but the one that constantly pops into my mind is with any cut of beef, lamb or pork take the tip of a sharp knife and cut random slits into it and then take cloves of fresh garlic and cut slivers of it then take each sliver of garlic and put it into the slits you have made in the meat and then you can marinate it or just continue to season it before you cook it. By doing this you distribute the garlic into the meat and it is absolutely delicious. If you are not aware of this you might want to give it a try. Always enjoy your video's Dimitria...
Thanks for those tips especially since I love garlic!! I do inject garlic into my meats often when baking but I've never heard the salad bowl tip. Cool!!
Steve had us keep one wooden salad bowl just for Caesar salad He then would always cut garlic in half rub it generously all over the bowl and then you assemble the salad and dressing but he would not wash the bowl You just wiped it down and let the wood season along with his Caesar dressing so that large wooden salad bowl never got water or soap on it but it was well seasoned and trust me that Caesar Salad was outstanding You could make a meal out of his salad Anchovies garlic Lemon Extra Virgin Olive oil etc etc I can still taste it today He spoiled us for any other Caesar Salad lol My mother kept that bowl separately and covered She sewed and made a special cover with a zipper just for that salad bowl lol
You are right about the slits and garlic. It's the only way my mom, and now I, make lamb. People always ask me how I make my lamb and I tell them that the garlic slit into the meat just gives it so much flavour.
@@DimitrasDishesCaesar salad wasn't on the menu when I grew up in the 40s & 50s, but our wooden salad bowl was rubbed with garlic & never washed. I seem to remember 1970s Joy of Cooking frowned on this habit as germ-ridden!
Po po po, that is the best looking arni me patates lemonates I have EVER seen. Like COOKING CHANNEL gorgeous! I have been cooking this dish my entire adult life and I don't think it has ever come out looking as perfect as that. Like other commenters, I too wish you had cut into the meat because I am curious how well you like it done. As I am sure you are aware, most Greeks like their lamb well done but I am partial to a bit of pink (I know, I know, vlasfimia! lol
lol!! vlasfimia!! haven't heard that in a while.. I do like mine well done too and I remember the day we shot this video, we were running low on time and I couldn't cut into it due to the battery life (about to die...haha!!) The best part of cooking is that we can customize things to our preferences :) All the best :)
I made this today for Easter. I couldn't find bone in so i used 4 lbs boneless. Followed exactly, put the potatoes in at the beginning last half hour left at 350. It was wonderful my husband said dont lose the recipe. Thank you so much Dimitra and Happy Easter.
Just made this. Came out delicioso. Followed exact except my potatoes took a half hour and I opted out doing the 475 to crisp it up at the end. My lamb was a little crispy enough. Thank you :)
Maybe didn’t slice, but she clearly understands cooking. Measurements, time, amounts.... it all depends. So, I like this . It all just comes from practice. This is a great video
Thank you for this Dimitra. I will be making this for Easter. I was thinking of making lamb fricassee, which I've never made before, but will be making your leg of lamb recipe. It looks absolutely delicious! Your lamb shanks were wonderful as well!. So I'm sure this will be too.
Hi Dimitra, I'm all the way from Sydney Australia. I have just discovered you and I have subscribed. I'm looking forward to cooking with you. Very best wishes.
Hi, Dimitra! I cooked this recipe on Sunday, and my husband and I both loved it! My one issue is that I was a bit heavy-handed with the salt. I'll be more careful next time. Also, I note that you used a 4-pound leg of lamb. Mine was 6 pounds, and I think I may have overdone it. Can you suggest how long I should've cooked it? I absolutely want to do this again! Thanks so much! I live in Canada, and I always have family over for Canadian Thanksgiving. I don't do the traditional turkey dinner. Usually, we do some kind of ethnic mail. This year we did Italian; the year before was Indian; and the year before that was Thai. I have already decided that next year we will do the Greek, specifically, this recipe. I would like to make your tiropita as an appetizer and baklava pinwheels for dessert.
Hi Adele! My general recommendation for salt is 1/2 teaspoon per pound of meat. That usually works well.. try that next time and let me know. As far as roasting time, that really varies and depends on the age of the meat (animal) and your oven. Also everyone's preference is different. I like well done falling off the bone lamb whereas others prefer a medium well... Once the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees Fahrenheit, lamb is safe to eat. It will be medium -well. I hope this helps for next time. All the best! xoxo
Lots of armchair chefs on here with comments of which herbs and spices to use. This is a Greek dish, main herbs in Greek cooking are garlic clove, oregano, cilantro, coriander, cumin, and paprika and lemon I've been cooking this dish for over 30 yrs now, and if you want to make traditional Scottish or Irish Roast lamb and veg, all you do is switch the lemon and garlic switch to MINT, ROSEMARY, FINE DICED WHITE ONION, SEA SALT and FRESH CRACKED BLACK PEPPER mix all together and rub down the leg of lamb with it put it covered in the fridge for 2 hours then roast uncovered at 350 until done, internal temp should be 160 C when done. Also, roast veggies like Dimitria does if your veg comes out soggy then you are doing it wrong.
Fantastic Dimitra! Very similar to the Bulgarian Easter lamb. The trick is to kill the smell of the lamb. We use dry peppermint to kill the smell of the lamb. Do you have some Greek lamb or goat dishes with mint/dry mint? Yamas from DC!
Mint goes so well with lamb. It also pairs very well with cheese. I love it in cheese pie! Lemon juice really tames the gaminess of lamb. I'll make a minty version too someday :) All the best!

But I think I'll do the potatoes separately, with some carrots and parsnips. Dont have the guts to do the potatoes and lamb together.

Phew! Even I, a challenged cook, was able to pull this off yesterday. TYVM for sharing. Can't wait to make it again at Thanksgiving & Christmas.
love it!!
I made this with shanks last night and it was amazing. I just halved the ingredients as there was less meat. Awesome recipe, thank you.
How long did you leave it in the oven for lamb shank? And temperature? I am going to make it this weekend?
I tried a half shoulder with all potatoes, parsnips, carrots, onions and garlic cooked you say “Well Done” and it was a very special meal.

You gave me the courage to try this.....looks delicious....love the garlic in all Greek dishes too. Thanks for another delicious recipe!
I use this recipe because I loved the ingredients and it was a winner for Thanksgiving absolutely delicious
Omg I cooked this for Easter exactly how you did and the taste was explosive, the lamb dropped so gooood... and the potatoes were heaven 😍
The dish and it’s chef are both absolutely scrumptious ☺️😍
It's disabled 😂
I've never bought lamb at the grocery store because I am intimidated by it.
Thank you for showing me how easy it really is!
Madam
I kind of enjoy your Greece lamb cooking over here in Namibia.
It's just perfect for the whole family.
Keep it up.
everything you cook looks so delicious! I really appreciate this channel as I love Greek food but did not know a lot about cooking it, so thank you!

I'm the lucky one :)
I will be trying this tomorrow for Easter. It’s great to see someone with the same appreciation for garlic as my wife and I have.
Excellent!! I hope you and your family enjoy every bite!
I will also be trying this tomorrow for Orthodox Easter! Though all I found was 6.5lb boneless. I’m sure it’ll still work!
I really love your channel. We have most of your cooking dishes here in turkey too , its very similiar. Greetings from neighbour
I could almost smell the delicious lamb when it was done. I am using this recipe for Easter this year.
enjoy :) Let me know how it turns out.
Really nice recipe! Kinda get sick of 'normal' lamb as it's quite plentiful here, so this recipe was awesome and gave new flavours to my lamb!
My favourite yummm I luv making this Sunday meal
My mouth is already watered
Can't wait anymore to have it.
Awesome!!
One of my favourite dissh I love

Adele Farough I’m in Canada too.. and I’ve been entertaining that same thought for Easter - lamb, not turkey 😬👍
beautiful dish, looks very good can't wait to try it myself. thanks for sharing.

My pleasure 😊 Happy New Year!
Awesome recipe! This was my first attempt in making roasted lamb and it turned out to be very good. Thank you.
yay!! This makes me SO happy!! Thanks for sharing :)
I used to love this when I lived in Cyprus, at first it took me awhile to get used to having the potatoes cooked that way, but then I found I loved them, very juicy and much more flavour than our British roast potatoes. Thank you.
What an easy way to do it! Thanks.
love your recipe

I have great stew recipes on here :) Try them and let me know what you think :)
Oh man, I was so looking forward to seeing you cut it just to show how soft it cooked. :(
Never mind, I'm going to try this recipe this week and let you know how it went. Looks really good. But I think I'll do the potatoes separately, with some carrots and parsnips. Dont have the guts to do the potatoes and lamb together.
