I love lamb roast this way and have followed your recipe with two small changes: 1, I add white wine to the roasting dish instead of water and 2, I stud the lamb with slivers of garlic for extra garlicky flavour. This dish always transports my family and me back to the Greek islands... an Ouzo or two always helps of course! 😅
The comment below is from my Gran who is a great Greek lover of their food every barbecue in summer is Greek with her favourite side dish of Horta sálata though she can’t get the same wild greens as she likes !
Greetings from DC. I searched recipe for leg of lamb for xmas; I ran into your recipe. I tried, and it came out perfectly delicious. Thank you. My husband loves it immensely.
Just tried this recipe absolutely gorgeous Akis I have George Moudiotis Greek cooking book which I love but your recipe has been outstanding Our family has been visiting Greece for 29 years every year love the food and thank you . going to try your pastitsio recipe tomorrow thank you
You should caution people that 3.5 hours cooking time depends on the weight and bone content of the leg! If you’re not sure test the lamb’s internal temp every 15 mins after 60 mins cooking, also don’t put too much water or stock in the pan - maybe half a cup
I was going to use my slower cooker for Christmas when I am making greek lamb, but your recipe is so easy to follow and looks so flavorful that I'm roasting instead and using your recipe! I've subscribed so now I'm a new subbie. I love Greek/Mediterranean food. Thanks so much!!
Akis, find it hilarious how you hurl the potatoes into the pan and toss the lemons once you've done with them - very efficient and no nonsense - love it! Found this insert and am trying your recipe today. Wish me luck! :) Update: Delighted to report your recipe, especially the marinade/basting sauce, worked like a charm - the result was delicious - thank you.
Thank you once again, Sir! I made this last night exactly as per your extremely clear video instructions....and it turned out beautifully! Even my fussy eating wife found this recipe delicious. 😂 We rear my own lamb and goat here in the UK and the leg of lamb was juicy and full of Greek flavour. 👍👍👍
Yes,,sir there's no BigNo 4 any kind of Lamb recipe😋from U💞 thank U chef😙 Instead of potato I like it to served with fried banana.. In Indonesia we have pisangtanduk or hoRnBanana the textures is so good when its fried. N,4 variant flavour I use coriander pwdr, cumin ,tamarind, palm sugar n using coconut shells for toasted the meat😄,but no worry sir ♓Akis,I♉do really like u'R Greek Lamb recipe
💃🕺🇬🇷Thanks Akis for the receipe I go to Tommy's Greek restaurant strictly for Shank of Lamb but there nothing like the Greek labour of love who cooks the food👏👏👏🇬🇷❤💯🥂
Hello and I love your channel! 2 questions 1-The smallest bone in keg of lamb I was able to get is 1.8 kilos. Will it need to cook longer? 2-are the cooking times the same with a boneless leg of lamb? Thank you!!
@@akispetretzikisen hi Aki, I've made this recipe a few times now and just not been good both times, but I think the issue is I'm only using half a leg of lamb but doing the same amount of cooking time, would you say a lot less? Kind regards
So, my husband is Greek, and his mother does it with oregano instead of rosemary and she puts the garlic slices in the lamb. Is there a reason why not to slit the lamb before?

Is this called a Lamb kleftiko? It doesn't say here but is that the proper Greek name for this dish?

So yummy ;p

Hello and I love your channel!
2 questions
1-The smallest bone in keg of lamb I was able to get is 1.8 kilos. Will it need to cook longer?
2-are the cooking times the same with a boneless leg of lamb?
Thank you!!
Suppeeeerrrrr
This looks delicious. Im copying this one this weekend. Ill report the result
Edit: delicious!! Easy and great taste!!
Hi chef ti kanies..which temperature u cook...
Under the video there is the link of the recipe! 😎
@@akispetretzikisen ..a faristo poly..
Very easy recepie indeed, thoug I think that 3 hours are too much at 170 degrees...mine almost burnt...anyway love all your recepies! Ευχαριστώ πολύ
What temperature should you cook at if you don’t have an oven with a fan? The recipe says to “set to fan”
kalee Anastasi, Aki

Merci Akis !! De super recettes comme d'habitude, mais je déconseille fortement l'usage des cubes de bouillons : cancérigène !
Süper
Did any of you ladies have to rewatch this, or was I the only one distracted. 😂😂😂
@Akis what type of mustard do you use? Yellow? Dijon?
Mild.
How are leftovers frozen for later? If that is possible, how are the portions of roast reheated?
Akis should show us recipes without his shirt....that would raise the temperature
I’ll season with Knorr stock cubes.
I prefer Knorr over Maggi aka Pyssi.
And yeah, I call Maggi pyssi (don’t ask why).
There are Pyssi stock cubes in my local Romanian shop, but I get the Knorr ones. These are more common in my country, and I like them better.
Can this chicken stock cube be left out? Does it make a huge difference
Would you recommend adding red wine vinegar to tenderizing the lamb and removing the gamey taste?
Thanks
Yes it could work!
What would be a traditional accompliment with this dish? Thinking gravy, dip etc thanks
The juice that came out from the lamb should be enough as light gravy. Mediterranean cuisines are not big in gravy to be honest.
@@saraestaa okay, thanks!
You can't go wrong with a greek salad and tzatziki though :)
A nice village salad with feta is great
Can you do the marinade a day ahead of time to let the flavor soak in? Also, how much should the cooking time increase if the lamb is 2.6 kg?
Can i make it in beef
Love this, but what does "fan" mean? Is that like a convection oven?
Yes!
"Golden brown and sexy"...bravo re Akis!
Is the temp 170 degrees Fahrenheit?
Any non 'cube stock' recipe?
Dont worry about it, you can ignore it if you want
He uses it a lot because he is being sponsored from this company
You can omit it!
Wait what temperature unit did he say? 😅

Αν δεν το χαράξω τότε δεν χρειάζεται να το χαράξεις! Τα γράφω όλα αναλυτικά στη συνταγή!
Could you use shank of lamb in this recipe and cook it the same way? Also what is a good substitute for mustard (not a big fan of mustard), thanks :)
So, my husband is Greek, and his mother does it with oregano instead of rosemary and she puts the garlic slices in the lamb. Is there a reason why not to slit the lamb before?
He said it wasn't necessary to slit the meat as that marinade would flavour the meat enough
Δοκιμάζω την συνταγή σας αύριο για το Πάσχα!
