Please start a crash course for project manager tools and software's , training us to the entry level field of being a project manager. i mean like Gantt charts, WBS, RACI , ROAM etc.. you know them.

I'm heading into my second month of applying to Program Manager roles and it's been a little rough so this has been encouraging to hear! I just received an offer after months of searching. With one company, I got through to the final assessment stage and they never spoke to me again. I even send a thank you email after the assessment and was told that I would hear back in a few days, but over a month later still have nothing. The offer I got was for a position I didn’t even apply for. I got through to the final stage and didn’t get the role, but a few weeks later they invited me to a final interview, and I got a better offer in a job I’m sure I will enjoy more. My takeaway, always keep a good attitude and never talk bad regardless of your experience.
Defiantly not a simple process for anyone.

How did you become a pm step by step
I went through something very similar recently- my manger had to fight like hell to get me a promotion (I requested the promotion after my yearly review in December, and it was just approved and put through in early April). I was very honest with my manager and said if a promotion doesn't come through, I will begin looking elsewhere and most likely leave. I really like my company and work, but I was woefully underpaid for the level of work I was doing. Thankfully I was actually promoted and I was promoted to a PM role thanks to my CAPM!

That's awesome Monica! I'm so glad you had the support of your manager and the CAPM to back up your promotion. I wish it were a bit easier for all of us since it's bittersweet to leave just because of $$/promotion, but it feels good to have the acknowledgement. Congrats on your promotion!

Hi Kelly - thank you for your support. It was a really hard decision and even more challenging to share, but I knew it was important for our network and others to be transparent. Generally, I do resume reviews, but could do something more formal if needed. Feel free to email me. :)
As a PM you can actually see your ROI, CoL, etc and your value as opposed to normal employees. That’s a big problem with being a PM or having that knowledge.

Haha so true! Once you start thinking about things in terms of strategy, ROI, value, it's hard to undo!
I think asking why someone is leaving a job can be a good indicator of what they're dissatisfied with and looking to change in the upcoming role, so you can begin to evaluate if the new role is a good fit for the candidate. That said, when I've interviewed I typically frame it more around what they're looking for in the future rather than what they're leaving - saying "what are you hoping to get out of this role" or "what are you looking for in your next role that you wanted more of from your current role" shifts the conversation to the role they're interviewing for instead of the one they're leaving

That’s kind of wow that your job gave you one and 2% raise its when you’re exceeding. Among my peers and friends, the average is less than 5% and it’s more like 3%. This year I received a 3% raise because I met my goals, but did not exceed which honestly I was not even trying it because I very much dislike my current job. However, I have a friend on another team in a different department, and she went above and beyond, and received a 2% raise. My prior employer, the top was 7% and I had one year out of six years where I exceeded my goals and received the 5% raise. Which is the best raise I’ve ever received in my working career. I think it pays off better to change, employers them to stay with the same employers to increase your pay. You did the right thing! Congratulations, even though I am a year late 😅

Hi, I like your videos! Tip: you could try to lower the volume of the intro to match the volume of the rest of the video. One minute I'm hearing you in my TV the next this intro sounds all over the house 😂. If you don't know what software to use, I recommend Audacity. It's free and open source.

Another RUclipsr gave the advice that you waste time asking for a raise and that you were better off saving time and making more money faster by simply accepting a different job.
Yes, that’s what I thought as well. I did my part, and then when the time came to give me the raise; my employers told me I had to wait 1 year. The next day, I submitted my resignation.
I’m the same.
I create folders for each company and the job that I apply, I screenshot the job advert, the cover note used and my resume in the folder.
I also log interviews.
I love the organization!

I did the same recently moving to a different company and I definitely found that the salary jump moving to a different company is a huge increase over getting a raise/bonus at previous company. Agile is really where it's at in the PM job market too!! Can I ask in your interviews, how many times did you hear the words "ambiguity" and "autonomy"? Haha! Looking forward to the new videos!

I'm transitioning out of the United States Army and am pursuing project management. While I don't have any formal PM experience by title, I have managed projects and personnel for over 8 years. I recently got my Google project management professional certificate. However, I am terrified of not having the formal experience or training and I will be overlooked. I'm also having a hard time choosing which industry to focus on as a PM. I no have tech experience and while I have an MBA, I don't have any business experience either. Sorry I know this a lot and kind of all over the place, but any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
First, don’t sell yourself short. As someone who Transitioned out a year ago and moved into the Project Management field I can tell you, you have a ton of project management experience. Look at pM Processes and draw the parallels to MDMP. It is all there. You may not see it right away, but you have put in the work, you just need coaching to translate that. Look to Hire Heroes and Veterati. They have great programs to help you get veteran mentorship for interviewing and help writing your resume. If you haven’t already done it, about three months out from your transition, apply for your LinkedIn premium. As a transitioning service member you will get one year free. Start working your LinkedIn to get 500 connections. That is the magic number on LinkedIn. People will start reaching out to you more, the more connections you have, but LinkedIn stops counting at 500. That’s why it is the magic number.

As you were looking for a new external role that better appreciated you (comp, growth, etc), would love to hear what gravitated you towards a product manager role vs another project/program (or any other) role.

Hi Natalia - that's a great question. I might make a whole video on this: how I've used connections, gotten referrals, if they've worked or not and out of the ~4-6 roles I've had so far in my career, how I got them. Would that interest you?

Time from application to offer for me was like three months. I’ve applied to quite a few positions and was surprised how few ever responded. Sometimes it seems the companies did really have their hiring process down or it was overwhelmed.

As a PM looking for better opportunities. Do you recommend public or private sectors? I feel I can do great work as gov employee but those jobs seem very difficult to obtain unless you know someone inside.
Hi Andy - It really depends on what you define as "better". I was looking for higher compensation/good benefits which I think tend to be available in the private tech sector. However you might prefer work/life balance more which I hear is great for gov employees. What are your main priorities in a job?
Haven't finished the video yet so not sure if you mentioned the employer, but I feel this might be Amazon due to the frugality principle and 4 year cliff

Hi Jenni - They didn't say too much. I think they realize it's a competitive market. They mostly asked about my new compensation. Thanks for the feedback about the audio - I'll keep working on that for future videos.
I am working as a Scrum Master. What do you suggest I should work towards? Program manager? Product Manager? Any other roles? And my next question is are FANG/tech giant companies good for Program/Project management?
What do you like about the Scrum Master role? More importantly - what DON'T you like about it? I think that'll be telling towards what to do next.
@@RecipeforSuccess1 I love everything about Scrum Master role. I think Scrum Masters become replaceable after the team knows about Scrum ceremonies and how to run the team.

I am from India and i too faced the same sort of issues a while ago .. so started looking out and luckily I got an offer from Accenture 😃 ..I mailed to my team ,HR and my boss that I am resigning .Dayafter i got call from my superboss asking me reason why I am leaving , i told them freely about the pathetic work life balance ,less increment , more favor to bootlicker , and today I got an revised offer from my company matching the Accenture pay also adding 50k bonus .. now i m really confused ... Any help would be great
The golden rule I have heard is to not accept counteroffers.
How about sharing with Accenture about the counter offer you received and see if they would be able to work out something? The reasons for your intention to leave will not change I.e. Poor work life balance, bootlicking etc

I recently applied for 2 jobs I have experience with and pure crickets🦗🦗🦗. Like, is no one in the office? If no one is at work, who put up the job posting? Lol 🤣 Why the crickets? I always revamp my resumes!

Keep at it! I also had to apply to more roles than I was expecting. Who knows what's going on?? You'll get there eventually!
