How to Secure Back Seat Cushions to Patio Furniture

- Simple way to attach back cushions to patio furniture using small zip ties. Also works to attach seat cushions to patio furniture although using a rubber mat under seat cushions is simpler. Enjoy!
UPDATE: Buy high quality zip ties. Not the ones you find at the dollar store. Those become brittle quickly and break. Buy the ones you'll find at a hardware store - 4 inch zip ties that are rated for 18 lbs or more. (Still very cheap - $1.50 for 100). In high winds, the zip ties might break but the good news is replacing them is very simple and easy. And, while I've had around 8 zip ties break, none of the seams have stressed much - they are still in great condition.
Lol. Love his honesty...."For more videos... don't count on it. "
That ice pick whiper is hilarious. Nothing like an awesome wife to come to the rescue lol
And she IS awesome!!
You’re a genius. I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with these cushions for over a year.
What a brilliant idea, thank you for uploading it. Helped me immensely 🙏🏻
@@ritikagogia3481 So glad it helped! Next project - world peace!
great personality and great wife on the camera helping!
What a clever idea! Thank you so much for sharing your solution and showing how to do it!
You are a freaking genius, thank you!
Ok! I followed and am over the moon happy!!!! Thank you, Gary! So easy and such a simple solution to a nagging cushion problem 🙌🏽
Stumbled upon this video after searching for "sewing for dummies" to try and sew the sucker to the wicker back! Needless to say, this is a much smarter way to go about this and the only waterproof method I've found. Exactly what I was looking for and appreciate you, sir. I'll learn how to sew some day, but it's not gonna be today! 😁
So glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much! I have the exact same furniture and this is awesome. Have a blessed day!
Thank you so much - I’ve been trying to figure out how to secure my outdoor cushions on a setting like this for years on my balcony. I tried Velcro but it’s so windy that one cushion flew off from the 15th floor into the park opposite never to be seen again. This took me 5 mins and cost $20 brilliant - thanks so much!!!!
Thanks for the encouragement
It’s awesome. My first tray was going to be Velcro, so you saved me time and money. I am about finished with my set.
I hope you have a blessed weekend!
I have wood furniture but this got me thinking how I could use the zip ties and it worked perfectly! Thanks for the tip.👍🏻😁
Nice work Gary! I knew there was an easy way to secure it but I just couldn’t figure it out. Glad I stumbled across your video.
Love this! Have the same sectional and am going to give this a try! Thank you, Gary!!!
Thanks Gary, we also have ‘crazy fly around cushions’ and were thinking of trying Velcro but now will be getting some ties 😀
I tried Velcro and even mounting tape as well but this way is waterproof. Brilliant 😁
That was awesome
Thanks for the advice. Works like a charm. 👍
Great idea! Been looking for a simple DIY solution. Thank you for sharing.
Very good idea! I happen to have the exact same furniture. My husband and I were really disappointed with the way the cushions slipped around. Also, there were no clamps to connect the furniture together. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Gwen. I've never done a video but when I saw how well this worked, I had my wife grab my phone and start the video. Leave the zip ties slightly loose. We've had ours done for several months and it's working perfectly.
Thanks Gary! This was helpful. 🙂
Great video! Will definitely give this a try!
This video is awesome!!! Used the method for the covers on our chaisse lounge chairs and it’s genius!!!!! Thank u God bless!!!!
Thank you, Veronica. When I originally figured this out, I did several cushions before thinking “Hey, I’ll bet others need this.” Fortunately, my wife was there ready to video the results and my son did the editing. So glad it helped you.
This looks like it will really hold things in place! Thank you.
It works great. Occasionally, a zip tie will break in the wind but it takes just a minute to replace using the same hole.
Thank you so much! I have the same set and it drives me crazy
Great idea!
This is great! Thank you!!
Omg. I am SO doing this this weekend! I have a sectional where one side has no arm and the cushion is constantly sliding and it aggravates me NO END. THANK YOU!
Thank you. Be sure to leave the zip ties slightly loose - won’t stress the seams that way.
Love this! 👏👏👏
Very good idea. Not sure why your video is not having more views. But excellent idea
I had bad breath that day.
Great job!
I super glued thick Velcro strips but the force of pulling them off ripped them off the cushions anyway. I will def be trying this thanks!
Genius. Ty for sharing.
Very helpful, thank you!!
So glad it helped you!
DOING THIS. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing ❤
Thank you so much for this!!
Thank you so much.. We have a lot of wind here, so they are constantly blowing off the furniture. So I will be doing this.
It works great. We live in Oklahoma where it’s also windy. Occasionally, the wind will break a zip tie but it takes just a minute to replace.
Great idea
Perfect...I have that same set
Thank you!
You’re a genius. Thank you.
Thank you. Next up is world peace.
Omg!!! I love your brain ❤
That makes two of us. Thanks
Thank You!
So smart!!! Ty
For more videos…. Don’t count on it 😂😂
Not a bad idea. I use zip ties for a lot of things. Though on mine I decided to use a nice string, and threaded it through the cushion, tied them off, then I can tie them to the chairs. I can remove them(to wash, etc), retie easily, without having to go through the cushion again.
That works too. Thanks.
Great video. Thank you and I will try it. What inch zip ties did you use? I see a 4 or 8 option but I don't think it matters. Just asking
I'd use the smallest you can find. I think mine were about 4 inches long.
Interesting. Could try using a snag puller tool to go thru cushion and not break any threads?
Not sure what a snag puller tool is. Is that something that could improve this process?
Do you take them off every time you have to wash the cushions or do you have a solution to just wash them while they’re still zip tied?
We always leave them zip tied when washing them. Sponge on Dawn and then rinse.
If a zip tie breaks, it’s easy and quick to replace.
I was thinking of using velcro but this seems better.
We tried Velcro but it didn’t work.
You just saved me haha
So, it doesn’t rip off the cushion sides if you use that sofa over and over?
Nope. The cushions are very flexible.
Velcro strips are much more practical. Lets you remove your cushions for cleaning, drying, etc., and if they peel off they're super inexpensive. Plus with them you're not poking holes in your costly stuff.
Use them then. Velcro didn’t work for me.
You’ll find this out. Velcro requires the cushions to be bolt upright which doesn’t work in the real world.
So what about when you go to wash your pillowcases? They will ravel apart
Simply clip the ties. When you’re finished washing, replace them.
How do you know this?
I figured it out
Not a bad idea
Please be honest and say that this is greater than sliced bread, the microprocessor and the cell phone COMBINED. Not to mention the printing press.
Wife: sewing needle and piece of fabric.
Husband: ice pick and zip tie.
Which to do???
Either would probably work. I know my method works.
More videos don’t count on it!!😂😂😂😂😂😂
Glad you liked it - I was having fun.
Thank You!!
