How to Secure Back Seat Cushions to Patio Furniture

  • Simple way to attach back cushions to patio furniture using small zip ties. Also works to attach seat cushions to patio furniture although using a rubber mat under seat cushions is simpler. Enjoy!
    UPDATE: Buy high quality zip ties. Not the ones you find at the dollar store. Those become brittle quickly and break. Buy the ones you'll find at a hardware store - 4 inch zip ties that are rated for 18 lbs or more. (Still very cheap - $1.50 for 100). In high winds, the zip ties might break but the good news is replacing them is very simple and easy. And, while I've had around 8 zip ties break, none of the seams have stressed much - they are still in great condition.

    Stumbled upon this video after searching for "sewing for dummies" to try and sew the sucker to the wicker back! Needless to say, this is a much smarter way to go about this and the only waterproof method I've found. Exactly what I was looking for and appreciate you, sir. I'll learn how to sew some day, but it's not gonna be today! 😁

    Thank you so much - I’ve been trying to figure out how to secure my outdoor cushions on a setting like this for years on my balcony. I tried Velcro but it’s so windy that one cushion flew off from the 15th floor into the park opposite never to be seen again. This took me 5 mins and cost $20 brilliant - thanks so much!!!!

    Not a bad idea. I use zip ties for a lot of things. Though on mine I decided to use a nice string, and threaded it through the cushion, tied them off, then I can tie them to the chairs. I can remove them(to wash, etc), retie easily, without having to go through the cushion again.

  • @Midouble
    @Midouble 3 года назад

    Great video. Thank you and I will try it. What inch zip ties did you use? I see a 4 or 8 option but I don't think it matters. Just asking

    • @gary00333
      @gary00333  3 года назад

      I'd use the smallest you can find. I think mine were about 4 inches long.

    Do you take them off every time you have to wash the cushions or do you have a solution to just wash them while they’re still zip tied?

    • @gary00333
      @gary00333  3 месяца назад

      We always leave them zip tied when washing them. Sponge on Dawn and then rinse.
      If a zip tie breaks, it’s easy and quick to replace.

    So, it doesn’t rip off the cushion sides if you use that sofa over and over?

    • @gary00333
      @gary00333  3 года назад

      Nope. The cushions are very flexible.

  • @jimb8738
    @jimb8738 Год назад

    Velcro strips are much more practical. Lets you remove your cushions for cleaning, drying, etc., and if they peel off they're super inexpensive. Plus with them you're not poking holes in your costly stuff.

    • @gary00333
      @gary00333  Год назад

      Use them then. Velcro didn’t work for me.

    • @gary00333
      @gary00333  Год назад

      You’ll find this out. Velcro requires the cushions to be bolt upright which doesn’t work in the real world.

      Simply clip the ties. When you’re finished washing, replace them.
