I might sound exaggerated but this is one of best scenes I've seen in my whole life, I mean, the whole context in that very moment with THAT song, is just brutal.
OK THAT song is an anti-rape song. I wouldn't expect any of these uptight sociopaths in the show to understand but let's just keep it straight between us.
You see how Logan gave that look that says “Told you, you should have been all out against him from the very beginning”, which he later verbalized to Shiv, “You see it now?”
Greatest Show Ever in the history of ever. I often have to pause and digest, pause and marvel -repeat- at the brilliance of plot/script/acting. Total perfection in every way. This scene is sublime ..
Please upload the clip of Logan having the conversation with the White House aid Michelle Ann. Was a very fascinating scene and gives tremendous insight into how politics in intertwined in the world of media.
This was so painful to watch. But I couldn't stop watching. I was disgusted what Kendall did, but also impressed how good the drama was. I really felt awful for Shiv. I felt bad for grinning, because what happened in cruises was inhumane. But it was also funny.
This was a very impressive illustration of specifically Shiv's inability to lead. All of the siblings have only ever been shadows of their dad: They were able to lean back, complain about hard decisions and sometimes feel powerful if Logan's intent was backing them. Even before the song plays, you can see how often Shiv flips back her hair how nervous she is. Her smile is not a confident smile but more the shy smile of a girl who got a surprisingly great present for Christmas. Her question "I think I can legally say that?" takes away her power/ competence, however you wanna look at it: a) If she wants to say it, she should just say it without asking for permission. b) If she wants to stick to guidelines and law, she should prep that. Fact is, it was a joke she made to comfort herself. But of course, the siblings weaknesses are viewed by themselves as characteristics of "modern leadership", a "breeze of fresh air", which many times helps them to stick to their delusion.
Why she literally deserves it. Acts like she’s way smarter than she actually is , and pretends she isn’t completely self interested and has values which is just false. Her complete disregard for Tom is so revolting and her hypocrisy is maybe the loudest of any character’s except for ewan
@@franksaldana6570 “deserves it” deserves what? To have a song about rape played during a public address? Are you an actual psychopath. That’s a gross thing to do to someone
@@Black_pearl_adrift no I’m not a psychopath lmao. the usage of the song is Kendall’s way of telling her how he views her, and how the rest of the top dogs at waystar truly view her (people like Karl, gerri, Frank) which is brutal, that she’s being paraded on to the public stage in that moment to make their company not look an antiquated, rape apologist cesspool. By showing off a new woman leadership position within the company, then maybe they will be able to convince the rest of the company and the world that they can correct their wrongs regarding the cruise ship situation. The problem is that shiv thinks she really is a hero that will make way star better, when she’s really just as self-interested as everyone else. It’s not about Justice/ideas for her, just her own prestige
@@Black_pearl_adrift ok so I think there might be some confusion over what I’m trying to convey. I’m talking about Kendall’s mindset and his use of the song as an attempt to expose shiv’s hypocrisy. I don’t think he chose the song to communicate that the room should rape shiv.
I can’t figure out why Shiv took the disruption so personally. Was it because it was her first public appearance as the president? She’s been in politics long enough to know Ken would have played that song over whoever was speaking since it was an attack against WayStar and not her.
At the dinner for journalists she took offence to Kendall taking shots at her. She thought this was his way of fucking with her. Though we don’t know for sure if it was Ken.
@@idea1istic that makes sense. Although I feel like it’s all but confirmed that Ken had the speakers set up with giving his lackey the shopping list and the boxes in his office. The donuts in episode 2 though are still up in the air though as it could have been Tom (my guess) or Logan.
It's because she knows that Waystar Royco is absolutely in the wrong, and she feels really guilty about it. Unfortunately, she is also desperately ambitious, and is choosing to prioritize her own ambitions over her sense of morality. She is attempting to rationalize this decision and compartmentalize her thinking, hiding behind this "We get it" corporate BS. Her speech said things designed to obfuscate the reality of the situation ("IF mistakes were made, HISTORICALLY"), making it seem abstract, in the past, and about to be remedied. That's the story she wants to tell herself, even if deep down she knows it is stretching the truth. The rape me song brings up the actual reality of the situation in a really visceral way. She would love to be able say in that moment that Kendall was spreading some lie with the song, but she knows that there was, in fact, a large amount of actual rape occurring under her company's watch. In this moment, she is being confronted with that reality in a really public way, which is humiliating to her
This is a very big moment for her. She looks tense even without the disruption. This is her first major public appearance in her new role. She also no doubt suspects Kendall is up to something. The timing of his arrival is after all a little bit too convenient. Maybe she was afraid he would interrupt her with some inconvenient questions. So I think it's very natural that she completely loses her composure when the music starts. It frankly shows her inexperience and inability to improvise, which I think are part of her character. Roman is the one that can improvise his way out of a situation as portrayed by the hostage situation. So she loses her focus and handles it all very poorly. Note that it didn't have to go that way. She could have just loudly stated that this is very inappropriate and announced a 10-minute break and then restart with some comments about how this is in very poor taste etc. Instead, she rushes off stage looking weak. And that inability to deal with the unexpected makes her even angrier no doubt. She wants to be a leader and she wanted to prove to herself that she can do the top job. But she fails her own test and it hurts.
Because she's standing by the company in hope for power, while deep down still trying to convince herself she's a moderate/pragmatic progressive. Her inner lie is that she's standing by Waystar as a way to change it from within, and the prank just keeps reminding her how much of a sellout she is.
Finally someone who gets it. Yep, we very well knew Vanila Ice Ken ain’t into Cobain. Plus the purposely placed incriminating empty boxes. And that sheepish grin on the old boar... gotcha! HINT: cold AC to get Ken out the office. L to the OG!
@@uncian0633 LOL i honestly think Logan would take a different approach to pitting themselves against each other. He's manipulative he ain't childish af
Yeah but what I don't understand is why this CEO position is that much important for these 3 siblings?? (Yeah, I'm not counting Connor in the brawl). Whatever happens the 3 of them are still filthy and immorally wealthy for their own good. All this just sums up as an ego battle to me.
Because thats how their father raised them. Its the only way to get his respect and attention. Since Connor didnt want to get involved in the family business Logan really doesnt pay him any attention unless it benefits him. Same for the rest of his kids
I see this as one of the major points of the show. Despite the infinite material wealth they are all completely fucked up in their own ways, and desperate for the approval and validation from their emotionally abusive beast of a father. They've grown up in a world where he is basically God and this dependence is hard-wired into them. It's a fascinating glimpse into their world. I think it's a kind of Stockholm syndrome.
@@melissamixon6212 Even so, I don't think it's his style. Being so indirect and sneaky. Logan is usually more blunt and direct when he goes after people. Maybe we will find out who it definitely was in the next few episodes?
