How to Actually Listen to Your Intuition

  • So many naturally intuitive people know they get solid information from their intuition. They even notice it when it shows up, but then they either don’t act on it or they push it away. Why? Because they don’t trust it. Hundreds of intuitive people (INFJ personality types and INFP personality types) have this problem. They get a feeling about something. They just “know” what is going to happen. They might see an image in their mind, have a vivid dream, or hear their inner voice warning them about something. Many times, the intuition gets louder when they ignore it, but still, the person pushes it away.
The big reason we do this is because of anxiety. Most people in society are in a constant state of anxiety. High anxiety and anxiety disorder are so prevalent that, for many people, it feels like a normal condition. And so, most of us make decisions from a place of anxiety. When we live from a place of anxiety, we habitually overthink things and want to know for certain if something will work, before we do it. We also want lots and lots of reassurance, and it’s still not enough. We tend to look outside of ourselves for approval. We may even get more deeply entrenched in the left brain-logic, reason, being rational-and cut ourselves off from the right brain-the place where we can access intuition.
So, how do we actually start listening to our intuition? Tune into the video to learn how to do this, and start listening to your own intuition and the messages it is trying to send you.

When I get an intuitive hit, I need to act, not ponder or I’ll forget about it. And write it down.

Hi Lauren. In my view, intuition and anxiety come from two different dimensions of our selves. The ego, or conceptual (constructed and false) sense of self, with all its conditioned notions of what's good and bad, right and wrong, is the source of any anxiety we feel. Through our dominant function of Introverted Intuition, we INFJs are blessed with easier access than other types to the beingness, insight and guidance that can bubble up from the inner truth of who we are, what Jung referred to as the "transcendent function". In my view, perhaps the most essential way to open and respond to our intuition is to question the truth of thoughts and anxieties that arise from the conditioned mind, from our IDEA of the world and who we are. When we question whether we can know for sure that any thought, or judgement of ourselves or events as good or bad is true, we find that we can't know this. Then, the thought dissolves, any troubling emotion triggered by the thought dissolves, and we are left feeling the peace of Presence, our true Self. In the "space" of wakeful, peace-filled Presence, no longer blocked by fears and objections from the conditioned mind, intuition can arise and be acknowledged.

Love, love, love this! ♥️ ♥️ on so many levels. It’s so true too that can we slip into that place of anxiety/uncertainty where we no longer notice we’re in it, and then it takes over, leading to all of the above and creating a loop. But noticing we are not noticing it is also awareness, to pause, return to ourselves, our intuition. Thank you Lauren, your words always resonate so deeply. Really looking forward to this!

Facebook groups is an option but tbh they do feed the detrimental aspect of their introversion. Worth a shot.

Yep, Facebook groups. And I also recently discovered that there's whole subreddits dedicated to each MBTI type. The INFJ subreddit currently has 152k members 🤯 and seems to be pretty active 🙂

We don't trust it because our parents (Sensates) didn't listen to us when we shared our intuition.
We need to sit with the (usually) unpleasant realities our intuition is showing us.
This brings up DECADES of repressed feelings and frankly feels AWFUL.
It's like burning a 40 year old tank of gas in a car...
Actually, it's more like a 40-year old gallon of gas.
If we ride it out and sit with the unpleasantness then new and IMPROVED gas will replace it and life gets better and less painful.

We have to LEARN to listen to ourselves.
We were taught to listen to our parents, regardless of truth, evidence or reality.
IT IS PAINFUL and scary because we revert back to little children again who don't know how to fix the problem.
THIS is where we stop and stuff it with some sort of addiction.
We need to learn to gently force ourselves sit with this wave of unpleasantness.
In a few second or minutes, our adult mind will gain more and more presences in the situation and the solution will become apparent. :)
Hang in there, this is TOUGH STUFF and what separates the adults from the adult children.

I feel like having supressed a lot. And don't know what to do about it. I feel stuck and like I can't access my intuition. Or it's confusing. I'm struggling.

Hello, Ivana. I feel that too, from time to time, but all is well. In your depths, in the truth of who you are, you are one with all, one with me. You are wholeness. You are what Carl Jung referred to as the "transcendent function," the true Self that observes the functioning of our personality type. The feeling of loneliness comes when we are overwhelmed by the illusion that we are separate. Strangely, we INFJs have, more than other types, this longing for deep (not superficial) connection, but at the same time, through the gift of our Introverted Intuition, "easier" access than other types to the sense of the deeper reality of inner ("spiritual") connection with others.
