If you ask me, I’d build a “Reborn” phantom rogue with the origin of sharing a body with a spirit, plus the “Haunted One” background and “Shadow Touched” feat.

Im using this subclass and oh boy I'm having fun roleplaying it. using a leonin, when I use my Daunting roar and spirits will appear and spook the enemy. and for the Wails of the grave, I kinda explain that the spirit in this world is helping him and attacking my enemies. such a fun class! Hacky sack sized shrunken head as the tokens. They resemble who they were taken from. Use them to juggle and play hacky sack with too. Oh, the macabre RP!
This character is inspired by Death from puss in boots this character's name is Ghost Tombstone a Shadar Kai Phantom rogue who serves the raven queen by harvesting the souls of those he kills and then delivers the soul trinkets he ends up not using when he returns to the shadowfell for her to extract the souls from the trinkets and study and then heads back out to collect more souls from those who he kills and those who have traded their souls to the raven queen for knowledge or something else that they wanted kinda like a soul debt collector i know how much Sin loves the raven queen so this concept is a treat from me to him hope you enjoyed this Sin
Nice tie in with the Shadar Kai to there lore background. The phantom rogue is made for that kind of circumstance of character. I like the keeping of the soul trinkets, especially considering the raven queen is the only one that can use souls for alternative magical purposes, besides power batteries. Thanks for the treat. I happen to really love all three elements involved in your character.
Good aligned but kinda edgy phantom rogue idea - your character goes down a dark path after your dog is unalived in cold blood after it ran up to the wrong noble becoming an initiate of an assassins guild in order to gain the skills needed to avenge it but as you are preparing to begin your first real mission with this guild an apparition of your beloved dog appears in front of you asking you to rethink your decisions and guides you towards your party eventually helping you fight and whatnot once it has more of a foothold in the material plane
That’s an awesome way to give your dm some real ways to influence and help you with your character. With your dog being this ethereal entity it’s a great thing for a dm to use almost like a deity to a cleric or a patron to a warlock. You also have this great opportunity as a rogue to not have become a hired killer. Like your on the cusp of becoming that and your dog saves you from going down the path, at least for now.

We are using Fantasy Grounds and Discord as we all live in different states (USA) . There are only 3 other players as of yet, my nephews, my brother as DM, and myself,, The Halfling phantom rogue. HaHa,, very excited though
I like the visuals of that. It makes things so much better when you incorporate these subtle descriptions to your skills and abilities. It’s a great way to get into your own character.
Add a Feind Warlock to your group. Goes great with Dark One's Blessing. Human sacrifice. Or add 2 levels to your build. You can also pick up BB, GFB, Hex, & the Puppit spell. Free Mage armor. My Phantom will be frequenting public executions when he hits 9th level.
