Cena actually said in an interview a few momths back that both he and Orton were well aware of how tired fans were of their never ending matches and feud and aimed to make the Iron Man Match much more different and fun enough to stand out and they homestly did as that,their breaking point I Quit match and Summerslam 07 classic are my favourite matches of theirs
Although they were booked in too many matches together, I always thought they had very good chemistry in the ring. Way more than either of them had with Triple H who both also wrestled far too much.
Besides the three you mentioned, the TLC match is decent as well, and that Royal Rumble one the crowd hijacked has great comedic value thanks to Orton lol
It's amazing how Cena's reputation has changed over the last 5 years. John hasn't damaged someone else's push in a very long time. Some people still hate him out of reflex but I think that the majority of fans have learned to respect the guy. He has spent at least the last 5 years putting over young wrestler's.
He matured. Same with Orton. They both grew up and settled into adulthood as pretty decent guys. Gotta love it, honestly.

I would in last 8-9 years he left the main event scene after 2014 and around 2016-17 he started losing quite often to put over great talents

The reason this feud struggled was Cena was always face and Orton was always Heel so there wasn’t anything different it there rivalry like most other rivalry people swap sides to keep it fresh and different
Not just them in particular but every feud that involved Cena was the same way in that like you said most other rivalries u usually get to see role reversals whereas with Cena you never got to see what a Heel Cena VS Face CM Punk, Face Triple H, Face Seth Rollins,Face Randy Orton matchup would look like
u either saw Cena in ultimate good guy persona against the other guy being a bad guy or u saw him and them both going against each other as faces like him and Punk,Or him and Triple H, and him and Rollins, him and Orton ,Him and Zayn like he's had too many Babyface VS Babyface matches because they for whatever reason was reluctant to have him fresh his persona
Amazing that:
1. They have no Wrestlemania single matches
2. There best matches are on two of the most random PPVs ever😂
No telling how many house show matches they had together. They probably had the exact same match so many times it's no wonder the in-ring chemistry was so stagnant in most of the televised matches.
Only 21 televised 1 on 1 matches?
It certainly felt like a lot more than that. Most of the matches weren't terrible, but they weren't good enough to do so many times.
What this guy failed to mention was that their Unforgiven match was just a set up for their Last Man Standing match for No Mercy which ended up not happening because Cena got injured.
Caught somewhere between “Jesus, 21 is A LOT” and “Wow, really ONLY 21?”
They wrestled for 22 years, so it seems fitting, about once a year

Cena and Orton at Summerslam 2007 will always be my favorite Cenas reign that year was great and I honestly didn’t know if he would retain. I loved Cenas year long reign in 07 in my childhood of wrestling
You are wrong about HIAC 2009. Orton tapped out but ref did not see it
Not only that, but he said that Randy Orton delivered the dreadful punt kick to RETAIN the title. That's wrong. Randy Orton delivered the dreadful punt kick to REGAIN, capture or WIN the WWE championship. That was Randy Orton's second ever hell in a cell match in WWE(almost 4 years after his first hell in a cell match at the Smackdown exclusive pay-per-view Armageddon 2005), while it was John Cena's first ever hell in a cell match.
And Cena VS Orton at WrestleMania 41 will be the most bittersweet match of all time.. one last fight..
Summerslam 2007 was their best match in my opinion, It had that big match feel . Didn’t feel like either was a face or a heel….Didn’t have a story behind it either. It felt like 2 superstars at the top of their game Competing to be the Best

Only thing I can remember from the summerslam 07 match was after Cena won he went out to the front row and grabbed some guys "If Cena wins we riot" sign... they did not infact riot that night.
I still remember that summer slam 07 match. The hype was SUPER high at the time and damn near everyone I talked to wanted Orton to win, but Cena did and I won a few bets that day lol
When they announced cena vs orton for tlc I was oozing resentment Daniel Bryan was right there and the higher ups metaphorically gave us the middle finger like you can visually see Vince flipping us off
Tbf, it was fitting that Cena and Orton were the ones to unify those titles, with the amount of times they'd held both.

The iron man match (literally the last main roster60 min iron man match since 09) is very underrated. Orton countering the AA into an RKO is immaculate.
Both my favourite Cena and Orton matches are the one they had at Breaking Point 2009 in a No DQ Submission match and the other own is the one that should've Main evented HIAC 2014 imo which was their HIAC 2014 match. Both are bangers and to me their best encounters with each other. An underrated one imo is the Triple Threat Mania match they had with Triple H at Mania 24. And another underappreciated classic is John and Randy's TLC 2013 ppv encounter in a TLC match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the main event. Also I love the part of Cena and Orton stealing each others moves at the 2014 Royal Rumble.
Orton Vs Cena Iron Man Match was the first Iron Man Match 2009 since 2005 (HBK Vs Angle at WWF Homecoming USA Network)
That Cena vs Orton 60-minute Iron Man match was an "Anything Goes" match as well, a sort of No Holds Barred Iron Man match, along with the stipulation that if John Cena lost the Iron Man match against Orton, he would be gone from Monday Night Raw for good, which reminds me of the ladder match between Edge & Matt Hardy on Raw in September 2005 for Edge's Money In The Bank briefcase. If Matt Hardy won the match, he would've been the new Mr Money In The Bank, but if Matt Hardy lost, he would be forced to leave Monday Night Raw.
Somehow I knew Orton/Cena from SummerSlam '09 would be dead last.

Since Cena announced his retirement I’ve been back n forth on who his last match should be against but it seems I can’t get my mind off it being Orton. Just feels like the perfect ending.

Cody pins Orton in a triple threat to take the belt - Rumble
Orton turns on Cody & takes the belt - Post-WM.
This makes him a 16 time world champ same as Cena. Both one short of Flair.
Into 2025 In Cena's retirement run, the WHC is vacated due to some storyline idk.
And Cena's 2nd to last match is for the vacant world title vs WWE champion Orton. Winner becomes 17x champion. Orton would be double champ.
Cena wins & drops it to his final opponent in his retirement match, probably Bron.

I am one of the very few who actually loved when they faced off. I understand it was constant and despite no one can argue they had chemistry it was the same platform for each match. However I cherished those matches maybe its just me but I never got tired of them facing off

Would really love Orton to retire Cena, but that’s probably unlikely considering how much new talent would be lined up. Would still love to see them have at it one more time before the end though ❤

Well I'm happy I was in the crowd for there best match! I was just 12 at the time and I was going crazy for the whole match. If you watch back the match you see me going nuts in the crowd for Cena's entrance wearing a DX shirt by the baricade, I think my voice was gone for a week after that. 😂

Here can someone explain the whole heel wrestler having their legs on the rope being illegal.
Like in Kayfabe or whatever, surely having your feet UNDER a rope would give you more leverage and making it harder to kick out of. But it's mostly on top of the ropes you see it.

That feels like that would be illegal also as the ropes signifies out of bounds (as far as pins go) but I figure it's real hard to place the foot under the rope while pinning someone

Christian's loss still irritates me, since it shows just how little WWE cared for him in the long run, when everyone else in the match picked up a win over Orton. Mnd you, all of Christian's losses to Orton do that for me.
Orton should have won all of his matches in some fashion, since he was the Champion heading in. Or the folks in charge could have forgone the idea altogether.

Idc what anyone says, I LOVED this rivalry! That "I Quit" match was amazing! I also loved the table match where Randy turned the AA into an RKO into a table which was a great spot!!
Authority Randy Orton was my least favorite version of The Viper
Instead of the scary, menacing and lgend killing heel he was known for being
His authority run portrayed him primarily as a whiny spoiled brat
That said, it resulted in arguably Orton’s biggest victory of his career in the TLC unification match that was admittedly a fun match

They had probably the boring HIAC match of all time at that time. And the crowd was completely dead for their stare down in the Rumble in 2011.
The I Quit Match and the Rumble '14 match (for the crowd shit-chanting it) are the only matches I'd rewatch.
This rivalry was how I got so sick of these two in my teenage years. Even as Cena enters his final year… I have no desire to see these guys wrestle one last time
