    I love you guys so much! Spencer, you are your wife's hero bud. You can see it every time she looks at you. And Kenzie, even though your huge and amazing personality might intimidate a lesser man, it's obvious how proud your husband is to have you as the "face" of the family. It honestly brings tears to my eyes to watch you guys raise your little girl while you build your future! Treasure all of this. I've had it before. My son is 22 now and my wife is no longer with me. She was the love of my life. Thanks so much for sharing your lives with us!
    Steve

    I really feel good that there are young people like you living, loving and working on your dreams. Spencer has a fantastic work ethic and Kenzie is a very free and animated individual who has brought this child into this world with your Hubby. This has been an epic journey through both of your dreams and hard work. I hope that all 3 of you and yes, the dog, are able to continue through life with the same attitudes and dreams. Hopefully this generation will rewrite these values and show that simple things in life feed the soul much better.

    Before you go any further on your addition, I would recommend replacing your homemade "glulam beams" with (2) pressure treated 2 X 10's with 1/2" OSB sandwiched in-between them and placed on edge. If you replay your video you will see the unacceptable deflection in your beams. After numerous cycles of expansion and contraction, it will delaminate causing it to sag in-between the piers creating a squeaky rolling floor, cracked drywall, binding windows, etc... It's much easier to fix now. You will be glad you did.

    I saw a creator that attached guide wire on the corners of a cabin to big trees near the cabin in Texas..
    In your case you can dig a few more Sono tubes Spencer with some hooks on 4 corners...maybe a 10-20 degree angle off the container on all four sides.. Then skirt the entire house so no wind gets under you guys... No wind will ever blow you away. Love yas..be safe out there !!!!

    So excited to find your vlog waiting for me when I returned from my “walk”. Holy cow, that was one very, very scary storm. The sound of the hail on the metal roof would had me under something. Bear in the pond just makes me so happy, he is such a wonderful dog. The donkey looked like he wanted to taste those fingers. Your property is absolutely beautiful. The addition is coming along very nice, a lot of extra work but well worth it. Beau is getting so big, isn’t it scary how fast they grow? I hope you both know how much your fan “family” loves you and is rooting for your every success. Your vlogs editing is awesome. Your camera shots of everything just amazes me. Stay safe.

    Hey guys! Around 16:30 Spencer was putting spacers in the floor joists, just something I have learned over the years with working with my dad: Rather than putting them in a strait line, stagger them a little bit, maybe 1/2 an inch apart, that way you can just screw directly into the side, instead of on an angle. I don't know if the screws being on an angle was on purpose...just trying to help :D

    Love this video, great filming, editing and music are all on point. But seriously guys, you need to build a storm shelter. Sink a 10 foot container in the ground and fill it with enough supplies for a day minimum. Also attach a lightning rod. Welcome to Tornado Alley! Tornadoes are nothing to mess with. They can turn on a dime, miss this house and get the next. I hate to say it but turning off the lights to see it coming is useless, unless it is middle of day, you will never see it coming. Especially being surrounded by trees, if by luck you were able to see it, you would only have 30 seconds before it hit! this is no joke. Build a underground shelter and when you get a warning, get in the shelter immediately! Stay there till you get an all clear. Just because it looks like the storm is receding can mislead you. Ever heard the term, "calm before the storm?". you will when you think its over and get it by the tornado you never saw coming. So many people have lost their lives this way. Please don't be those people, please!

    • @WhoDatBoudreaux
      @WhoDatBoudreaux 4 года назад +6

      Their exposure to wind storms probably comes from hurricanes in FL. It's pretty common for tornadoes to spin-off hurricane rain bands. I'm sure they have an idea of what can happen in tornado alley.
      It's just that the footprint is relatively small compared to hurricanes and it's "hit or miss" when one's in the area. Nonetheless, there's no time to debatewhether you're in the path of danger or not. If a tornado warning has been issued, button things up and get to cover.
      Even if they don't build a nuclear fallout shelter that would make a prepper proud (overkill)... it may be worth while to plan a safe room into the design. That could be simple as putting in a hatch with access to a cinder block chamber under the high side of the containers. It doesn't have to be too involved, just something without windows that has a substantial structure overhead that could withstand a tree falling on the container's roof. I'd venture to say, the i-beams and framing of that container bottom is enough to serve that purpose.

    • @hosslippert6746
      @hosslippert6746 4 года назад +13

      Boudreaux504 As a born and raised Oklahoman I agree and disagree with you. Yes they can probably get away with building a shelter under the containers but there better be another way out other than the hatch you speak of. If the containers were to shift off the foundation, which is likely in an f2 or higher they would be trapped inside. Since they are in a remote area, on family land, this is a horrible idea. If they were to be trapped how long do you think it would take for the first responders to get out there and free them?
      The best thing to do is to contact the company that did the septic system, find out if they do storm shelters, most do since it requires most of the same equipment to install. If they don’t then shop around. You guys should be able to get an in-ground shelter for less than $5,000 that will comfortably fit the 3 of you plus Bear. Do not get a safe room inside the container. If an F2 or higher hits the containers will shift off the foundation and will move. Get an in ground shelter that is away from your water tanks and away from large trees. Also make sure you have a jack inside just in case something large lands on the door. Tornado shelters are like expensive insurance, it sucks to pay for it until you really need it and then it is a lifesaver... literally.

    • @jollyrogerhobbies2386
      @jollyrogerhobbies2386 4 года назад +2

      Just to clarify, when I mean to sink a small container in the ground, I do NOT mean under the current container house. That is ill-advised and impractical seams how they already have their house there. No, need to be away from the house but a very short distance away so you can reach it quickly. Hopefully they will never need it. But always best to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it. An f2 or higher will move that house to Kansas. An f1 will destroy it. If that happens, you wouldn't want to be inside.

    • @WhoDatBoudreaux
      @WhoDatBoudreaux 4 года назад +4

      @@hosslippert6746 I'll be honest, $5k is a lot cheaper than I imagined possible. Makes it a lot more approachable, but still a substantial investment.
      I've worked a few tornado incidents (chainsaw crew, not SAR work) and see fallen trees as the biggest risk (cause of death) for the ones I've been to. Most of that is from Louisiana to Mississippi... Not OK/TX tornado alley. So I'll admit I don't know what practices are recommended for their region. So take what I say with a grain of salt... Having something reinforced for weathering a storm is better than nothing. Making sure a tree doesn't have a way to crush you seems to be important... So is a way to exit the rubble after a hit. I agree with you re: having some heavy tools in there. Maybe some cribbing/shims/wedges, 6' pry bar, webbing, come-a-long, and a jack.
      It would be probably be wise to hit up county and state OEP to see if there are any suggestions/best practices. Hell, there may even be FEMA grant money to help pay for a buried storm shelter. As long as FEMA doesn't slam you with strange regulations & requirements to qualify, that may be the no-brainer solution to take.
