Yeah, in the comics anyway, Nat is a little juiced up. I think she has a version of the super soldier serum but it does help her survive a lot of seemingly impossible situations. Granted I don’t think the MCU ever touched on that but nobody really knows the extent of what happened to her in the red room.

    • @mateom1691

@@kimm6589 Because most characters who can take such extreme hits and come out relatively okay usually have a superhuman quality to them, or a very specific protective layer. Cap was superhuman, and he also has a vibranium shield. Thor is superhuman, Bucky is superhuman, Spider-Man is as well, and so are Captain Marvel and Wanda. The problem isn’t that they can withstand all these blows, it’s that the MCU never really gave Natasha her comic book origins with the serum, so to everyone who hasn’t read her comics, it’s not immediately clear how she can take so many hits and still keep walking even though she’s human.

@@domanimatthews13YT That's how the rest of the time travel works in Endgame, but it doesn't explain how Cap got back to the main timeline without re-appearing in the quantum tunneling platform thingy which was used as a homing beacon so he doesn't just create another different timeline on arriving. My guess is that the TVA had a hand in putting him back into the past of the main timeline, since he was 'meant' to go back.
Also note that Peggy Carter did have a husband in the original timeline up to her death in Civil War, but absolutely nothing was known about him up until Endgame

The third option of course is the writers for this fucked it up and the intention was that it's Steve even though given all current 'correct' information that's not possible.

I absolutely loved this movie. I don't like to play the gender card (men can go through these things too), but as a women, seeing the trafficked girls, being abused, and recovering from abuse, I thought that subtle theme was so well done in a superhero movie that is witness by a large audience. I thought the action and humor were balanced perfectly as well.
I understand the criticism that it should've been made after Civil War (which is the timeline it's in), but of course Marvel didn't want to make a movie for her until the fans pushed hard enough, and we were pissed off over her being killed off in Endgame with no funeral, recognition, anything. So yes, Marvel made some huge mistakes handling this overall story, but Cate Shortland and the filmmakers in general did a fantastic job with this film. LOVE

I was listening to a podcast with the two screen writers of Infinity War/Endgame and they originally had Hawkeye be the one to die for Nat to get the soul stone. Apparently, some women in the marvel offices really disagreed and wanted Nat to be able to make the sacrifice and that she'd earned it more. I can't remember the specifics, but it was interesting.

    • @cupguin

Part of the reason it took so long was Ike Perlmutter who was in charge of early Marvel and absolutely refused to make anything he didn't think would sell toys. Which is also why all the early MCU merch is exclusively white male characters. Ruffalo even said...
“When we did the first ‘Avengers,’ Kevin Feige told me, ‘Listen, I might not be here tomorrow,’” Ruffalo said. “And he’s like, ‘Ike does not believe that anyone will go to a female-starring super movie.’ So if I am still here tomorrow you will know that I won that battle.’”
So when Feige finally took over in 2015 he had movies that had been announced, already in production, meaning his first opportunity to make a Black Widow movie was ridiculous late into the MCU.
Ridiculous but one idiot obsessed with toy sales got to make all the final calls on the MCU for years and then he was still in charge of Marvel TV until the phase 4 shows.

So my theory about Natasha and why she’s able to come out unscathed from most serious accidents/fights (aside from the typical Hollywood hoopla) is that because of her training, she’s able to control her reactions and responses to impacts of most kinds. Like how a drunk driver is likely to come out unscathed from an accident because while intoxicated, they are relaxed and calm. And someone who isn’t drunk is alert and therefore reacts with fear. It’s human nature to react to an impact with fear. But because of her black widow training, her ability to remain calm and collected, I believe her natural responses keep her, in most situations, safer than a typical person would be.
    But that’s just my theory… a black widow theory ( see what I did there :D )

The reason why they went through all of that with barely any injuries is a combination of training and chemical experimentation. They have a version of the super soldier serum in their blood/DNA mark-up, making them literally hard to kill and harder to exhaust. Makes it even more bittersweet in Endgame knowing that Natasha was way more skilled, than the man who was heavily skilled and caught her, simply because she was that much more determined to die so that that man and his family/her families could live. She was so extremely hard to kill, the only way it would happen is if she killed herself.

  • @SebWhitaker
    @SebWhitaker 2 года назад +7

one of the reasons I think Natasha's death in Endgame is so impactful is because her whole arc is about feeling like she doesn't belong to a family - to her family from childhood as we see in this film, and to the Avengers. She eventually does make both of these her families though, and finally belongs. Thus her arc is about not belonging to a family to then sacrificing herself for both families (her avengers family and her family back home, representative of all families across the universe). It's so poetic, so tragic and by the time it comes round, we really care (and would've more if Black Widow had been a part of Phase 3 as it was planned to be)

The thing with the revelations you brought up is classic filmmaking. If the audiences knows everything going in, there's no tension. You already know Natasha makes it to Infinity War and so on, but the question is how, and if any of the others make it through.
Also, that sort of plot twist is quite common in spy films.
As for why this "big event" isn't mentioned, it's because chronologically, it goes Civil War, Black Widow, Spider-Man Homecoming (no reason to mention it), Black Panther (no reason to mention it), Doctor Strange (no reason to mention it), Thor: Ragnarok (no reason to mention it), Ant-Man and the Wasp (no reason to mention it), Infinity War (waaaaaay too much going on to mention it), Endgame (still too much going on), and then she's dead so it doesn't come up again.

The stunt double who plays Taskmaster in all the scenes with the suit on was chosen to fit Natasha's friends specific body type and height. Kevin Feige flipped out after the movie was released because Disney changed the ending behind his back and swapped it at the last minute. All they did was rewrite a few lines and super impose that 5'2 actresses head and that 6'8 mans body in the reveal scene. Feige didn't even know that actress was cast in his own movie until he saw it on release day and threw a fit at the next board meeting. I heard rumors of justified screaming and furniture throwing.

Honestly, when I watched this movie for the first time, I identified so much with Natasha and everyone in it. Coming from a background with Russian influences, this was perfect. Super accurate, especially Alexei's dialogue but also the entire family dynamic. This was crazy. I had to show it to my family and they also agreed that this is exactly what e.g. talking to my grandpa feels like.
There's so many details in this that made me howl with laughter - the fact that Natasha drives a Lada in Norway (why would you choose to drive a car that screams Russia if you want to stay hidden when the world is looking for you and you're in the hinterland of Norway?), the way Alexei insists the fuel is going to last all the way to St.Petersburg, not letting the girls be right, his obsession with Natasha being part of the Avengers but also insisting that the Western powers are evil and cannot be trusted or the way Alexei tells the story of his father peeing on his hand (I swear, I've heard multiple variations of that story from my grandpa).
Even the way Natasha and Yelena interact as sisters - it's so perfect.
I loved loved loved this movie. It was amazing. I suppose that many people couldn't really pick up on the Russian cultural cues and details but to me, it meant so much to see it all like this. Even though I don't really connect with that part of our family history, I felt really touched by this movie.

28:46 it follows into Infinity War. The movie start right after she left Tony in Civil War and the first aftercredit is right before her & the gang go into hiding for two years. Right after that it's Infinity War.
I liked the first aftercredit, it showed that she helped Cap break out everyone else from the Raft. Without her and the quinjet they wouldn't have been able to do it.

Imagine for a moment how her face would really respond to “severing the nerve”. Her face would have swelled and probably limited her sight. So, I suspended my belief so much throughout the entire film. But that final injury was just too much.

The reason these events weren't mentioned in any Avengers movies is cause this takes place between Civil War and Infinity War, meaning it went from this, into Thanos erasing half of all life, then Endgame, and by that point these events didn't really matter.

Because of that idiot Pearlmutter, Black Widow was the only female hero for far too long. It's perfectly reasonable that her death hit hard. Especially given the "red in my ledger" throughline.
I hope you remembered the scene at the beginning when little Yelena says she likes American macaroni and cheese. That comes up again later in the Hawkeye show.
The death of Natasha gets dealt with more fully in Hawkeye.

This movie is my favorite female hero movie with Catwoman’s Halle Berry (this movie is dope people just have to forget Selina and Batman and appreciate a new story) Nat’s performance in terms of skills was ofc 10/10 it’s her playground. All the Yelena’s scene are dope. The widows vs nat was so intense and so satisfying. I love her. At least they released the movie even if it was supposed to be release before endgame and it made less sense in her character’s arc
