I rode an Alva board back in the day......in England! 10" wide which was WIDE back in 77/78? Mid Tracks and YO-YO wheels as hard as rock......Tony in the dessert in a storm drainage pipe riding past 90 degrees from the floor was my inspiration.....He's da best 4 sure. I'm 48 now and still ride. Had a huge wipe out 2 days ago.....still feeling it where back then we'd have been straight back at it?

Sid was based on a real person but was not the same as in the lords of dogtown.
He was a boy that lived in the rich part of LA that had a pool. And he loved watching them skate and that, so he invited them all up to his pool when he was ill.
    He died of brain cancer

The Z-Boys remind me of Pink Floyd. For Pink Floyd, the inspirational creative genius was Syd Barrett. He was the guy that got them to write their own songs, and to break the boundaries and be comfortable with being different. David Gilmour was the one with a lot of talent and a strong work ethic that made Pink Floyd "Pink Floyd". In the same way, I think, Jay Adams is the "Syd Barrett" of the Z-Boys, where Tony Alva plays the role of David Gilmour.

Imagine being around for something that was so early in its existence. That you could do so little and be considered a pioneer. Trying making a name in skating today. It's almost impossible with what guys like rodney and daewon have done. Those are the most important names in skating.

The irony is the that dogtown fell because people soon found out that surf style didn't work for progressive moves. It wasn't until people went back to the more upright style that the moves left the z boys in the dust forever. Lots of hype surrounding the z boys. They got beat time after time in the pool contests.
