I feel like I've heard their story a million times but it's still so cool everytime I hear it. Love these guys. R.I.P. Jay Adams. Him and Emile Hirsch's portrayal of him got me into skating.
+Taimir Gore Me 2 man, Emile Hirsch is such an amazing actor!
+El Technic0 FACTS
yeah him in lords of dogtown really got my hyped to skate back in the day
Fuck ya man sooo fuckin clean
RIP Jay boy
at 56 years old I can say that the Dogtown crew were an integral part of my skating. I was overseas in 1976 looking at all the magazine pictures featured in the clips here .. I was molded by those into the skater I had become in my late 40's. I had the chance to watch and skate next to people like Shogo Kubo and Eddie Eulgero at a back then new skatepark in Cherry Hill New Jersey in the early 80's. Its hard to explain how much I was influenced by these innovators of the sport. It was not a sport before but I knew it would be. I stuck with skating for love of it and it paid in dividends. I still skate after 8 lbs. of metal in my front leg. But most of all my own story was made possible by the people featured in any documentary or article about the Z-boys. For that I will thank them all. Thanks so much guys for what I was given from pictures and articles in a magazine that made my life what it was and is. Go Big Or Go Home 😄
its a sport and a art form. 🙏🏽🔥
Here is why Jay is the GOAT. He had the total essence of what skating was supposed to be about. Freedom. RIP to the greatest.....
The part where Alva says "Jay's still with us, thank GOD" made me tear up on the inside. I was so close to meeting him too! The only 3 days I ever spent in Cali, went to the Z-flex shop and asked if Jay was there. They told me he was, just three days before, and he went back to Hawaii. I really wish I could have met him. Bless your soul brother. The art you lived and created is eternal!!!
One of my older friends met them at "The Arizona Pipes". He told me Jay said "come over here and I'll show you how to skate the..." I always thought that was cool
I’m crying now
After he passed I sent his wife or a girlfriend in Hawaii a skate magazine with a interview of Jay. She asked me where I got it. I told her I bought the mag in 76-78. She talked me into to sending it to her. I got her information from Instagram. I never should have sent that because she never even thanked me. That is all I wanted was a simple thanks. I believe possibly she may have had some issues of her own.🤙🤙🤙
@9:10- "the good thing is that Jay's still here. Thank god" - Tony Alva.. TA lost a brother today
RIP Jay...
exactly my thoughts, rest in peace brother.
shit, that sucks,, what happened with jay?? anybody?
Ken Hall
last month he died from heart failure, pretty sure it was a heart attack (correct me if i'm wrong).
NIRVANAmat you're correct.
Anthony
would be good if i wasnt though.. that way he would still be alive
Rip Jay-boy the way he eat the Burger is Exactly like The way they made the character in the movie eat it lol you are truly missed
Technically he made the character in the movie since it’s him
The people who disliked it were the pool owners
Nah, jellyfishes.
😆
Ha ha
hahaha!
You're right lol
There would be no X-Games without the Z-Boys.
Wifig so true
Fuck yah
skating has such rich history, I love it.
Amen to that!
Before plastic wheels they ripped metal, in the late 50s.
Sad to hear of Jays passing. Traveled a rough road and survived this far. Alot of others didn't.
RIP Brah.
Condolences to your family. Peace be with you all.
jay adams was an innovator and i dont even think he realized it.
Him, alva, and Peralta
Plus Peralta came back around to capture this story in such an amazing way🤙 its rad all the way down.
guess he just didn't care.
Im bummed duane peters skates better than me
Back in the 70's I consumed every issue of Skateboarder magazine. All you Dogtown guys were just amazing! You inspired us all.
One thing i can say about Jay is that he lived his life the way he wanted and didn't change for nobody not even money. I got to meet him years ago in Venice beach when i was doing community service. He was always like that no off button. Sad to say he died doing what he wanted to but no one can take that away from him
those are rare people, now a days people do shit for fame or money. he just wanted to skate in peace with his friends. reminds me of my friends when we use to skate. he died doing what he love to do, thats the best way you can go out.
I found the Dog Town video in a video store not long after release just by chance. All I saw was a 70's look with a dude on a skateboard, and narrated by
Sean Penn, I rented it and brought it home. When watching it I totally tripped because these were the guy's I had in posters on my walls in the late 70's, that
I would take out of skate boarder mag, and I hadn't seen them in over 20 yrs. I'm 46 now, and was just a young skate boarding punk when that stuff was going on.
My first roller skates had clay wheels, and what they talk about is no joke. When you hit a pebble you flew!
cowboysfan782008 bones brigade show?
naaaah right ;) ive got myself a 60s board, clay wheels. its not that bad. paths and roads in the uk arent that smooth either....
just go fast!
i think people just didnt quite know how skate in the 60s...
I was a kid in the 70's, I was a big fan of the Dog Town, Z-boys team, which got me into skateboarding myself. Thanks for all the cool memories.
Good to see ya guys still in touch, y’all were rocking when I was a young boy, had several decks I’m 51 and still skate. Love my skateboards.
Jay Adams was the great innovator.
East coast 70' skate rat right here. Z boys felt like they were part of my life.....never met em....they were 3600 miles away.....still felt like brothers. They started a revolution out west....we continued it east. When I visited California many years later I did a self tour of Dogtown. Went to Carlsbad where the huge cement pipes were. I remember the urban legend that some skater did a full loop on one. Christ they got so high on those creeps that it seemed possible. Those dudes were rock stars .....aint no doubt!!!
R.I.P Jay Adams thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks for sharing this with us. Really RAD!
Tony Alva looks like Gary Oldman.
Gary Oldman as Drexl in True Romance, for sure.
@@justincider4375 beat me to it
With Aids
Or like Zack de la Rocha!! Frm Rage against the machine
Yeah from True Romance. Alabama's pimp Drexel.
Skateboarding is sooo underrated. These guys are pros, grandmasters. The was they explained skateboarding is so mesmerizing and makes you wanna become a skateboarder
Well said! #Legends
Sucks to know that jay couldn't enjoy more of his life when he finally got sober and was finally happy. Rip
Chad Broxson he was sober for two months. That’s it.
@@jamiemoffatt50 try four years. And Jay got to enjoy more of his life. People always judge from their own projections and lack of information - he was an overcomer in life, and he made a difference for me and countless others.
@Beth Meyerswe make a lot of bad decisions when we're young. Im guessing you make none?
Agreed...it's sad. Hopefully future generations can learn from it though. Because there's a lot of young people who still look up to Jay Adams and see some similarities of him within themselves. And I think maybe some will have enough insight to not follow down a few of the more self destructive tendencies he had. I know it scared the hell out of me from ever taking hard drugs like heroin or meth.
@@rivercometman1845the biggest struggle the white man has is drugs. It’s embarrassing for us minorities seeing more adversity.
sick video...thx for posting!
This vid should be under Zflex channel! Thanks for posting!
jay adams will always be a LEGEND
Stoked. Ty
"Cool thing is Jay's still here." If only TA.. :/
RIP Homie
I first saw the Lords of Dogtown outside a DVD shop back in middle school, it was on a poster. My mom eventually got me the DVD and my brother and i loved it. I was Tony and he was Jay. It's crazy cuz I'm 25 now and Jay is no longer here. These guys honestly helped me . This is my first time watching this and it shows how short life is as well how much fun it must've been back then
R!I!P!
Jay Adams, a creature of the edge, never a dull moment...
He's a bum, was also stupid.
Without a doubt, you are correct. He was also a cat tormentor in his youth. But he sure could skate.
+Ferrox Glideh he sure did. Rides like lightning, crashed like thunder.
Thanks for this
One thing I'm thankful for was having these guys to look up to know that thing I loved about skateboarding was the freedom to try stuff even it was stuff a few other people were doing, the guy who showed me air was blazing fast and that something I always tried to do was keep the speed and pace high for doing airs that makes things easier all you have to focus on is smoothness and your landings and keep the speed sonic so u can just flow right into the next move which really helps your creativity when you don't scrub speed you have a easier time thinking about doing radical things, rather than trying to recover lost momentum, having a giant 60 foot long 14 high and 20foot wide half pipe to play in 10 to 12 hours a day don't hurt either, thanks guys for showing me there is no limits, piece out,ah the seventys....I was there almost too young but I remember a little a front side to backside ally oop...when your ten years old how do you top that....Jesus Christ air hah ha....thanks....
#JayAdams True skater/wave maker😇 I grew up I SouthBay LA, in the 70s Jay set the tone 😇🙏🏿🙏🏿😘😘🤟🏾
I still can't believe that you are gone
Awesome video, love this classic style.
Rip jay jayboy adams the spark!
thank you tony. tony alva and jay adams are the people i wanted to skate like. i live in the mid west. we don't surf much here. but the way i wanted to skate was like jay and tony.
Wish I still had my Jay Adams Z-Flex board with Bennett Trucks and Alligator wheels. Loaned to a friend and never saw it again.
I cud sit and listen to z boys story's all day
Wow. That brought back memories. I had one of those old fiberglass boards when I was a kid. Looking back, it's amazing how the technology improved from the mid seventies to the early eighties. Now I'm way too old to be on a board, but cruise around my town on a carbon board that was beyond anything I could conceive when I was on that Z-Flex that I thought was the greatest thing ever.
Jay we miss you man your still in our minds much love
Thanks for making this. Love this era!
RIP JAY ADAMS
A W E S O M E ! ! ! Back in the day, I had a Z-Woody board!
R.I.P Jay a true legend
JAY WAS THE SKATEBOARDING GOD...R.I.P
Aww..Jay! ...Jay, you were incredibly gifted, love you
Tony's got " true grit" glad you're still here, I know you loved Jay

They can still do this after 45 years and these guys are fun to watch if you really like vintage skateboarding and I'm no expert but they make pool surfing aka going up the sides and coming down real easy
Skateboarding def keeps you young , these guys are up and age and still look good 👍🏾
LEGENDS NEVER DIE!! Duane is tearing that bowl up!
I remember flipping through the mags, watching the videos, trying all the tricks, not many people had pools in mn but we did find a couple. Such good memories
Happy Birthday, T.A. ! Keep on skating, surfing and inspiring, bro !
Omgosh I'm in love..I' can't...they are so amazing, EKKK!! ^.^
I started skateboarding in the 70's, in north Texas, until the insurance companies closed them down. My senior year of High school I ran into sum Hardcore punkrock skaters. Skated until the middle 90's. Best times of my life!! These guys were Gods to us. Z boys made skateboarding!!! Nuf said!!
So glad you got this documented. This is real history
Cool seeing the Jacksonville guys talking about Kona, my old skate park 🤘
RIP Jay Adams
Wicked awesome 😎🤙. Mid-60s we were using shaped plywood on roller skate trucks on sloped driveways.
Jay Adams. Best ever.
Thank God for James Adams
Jay is the skateboarding god!
Great video! What is the first song played? I need to know! Thanks
JAY ADAMS MY FAVORITE SKATER EVER!
17:08 _"...coz when you're younger, growin' up skateboardin', those are the best times of your life."_
So true, even from me, here on the (relatively) cold and windy west of Scotland. :)
Gotta Respect Your Roots . Mad Love
Those guys are the reason why pools are no longer built with curved walls.
@michael Sounds like a wild claim. Is what your saying legit?
@michael that's not true at all lol.
@michael you forget about the time they signed the constitutional amendments and fought for the confederate in the civil war.
@michael Since when did this have anything to do with Civil War ??? plus mickey rat is and asshole for what he is saying and how do you know he's even black huh ??
I grew up in Hollywood. In my neighborhood was Hollyweird Stoners , just catching the Z boys. They were kids watching the idols. Awesome time. A lot of OP, puka shells and Vans.
We had ZBoys in the 70s; our parents worked sooo much to get it😘 This was our life🙏🏿 maybe why I’m what #JayAdams made me🤔
That was a gnarly blast!!
Me and my lil Brother did the skater life; this has been our life😇
1986 till I die ...that's was my p.w. on Tony hawk pro skater & I was 9 that's when I started skating
Awesome video,,,,
This is so cool man!!
How does this only have 3,000 likes!?!?
I dont skate but a couple of my friends did and my step dad did. I wish I could have lived during the time when skating set fire.
Gary Oldman put on a Oscar worthy performance during this video. He looks pretty solid in dreads too. /tips hat
so good can see twice!
Whats the song on the intro, RIP Jay Adams
I watch this as a kid. Broke my wrist skating a week later
R.I.P Jay Adams. My mom was sick with cancer, laying in her bed with her ipad watching his funeral service on-line. R.I.P. Momz.
Thank you for sharing that story, she must've appreciated Jay Adams a lot. I'm sorry for your loss. She sounded like a truly lovely person.
Rest In Peace Jay boy.
Straight up OG Skate-Soldiers por vida.

#RIPJayAdams
I have a picture in one of my skate mags I cant find of a guy skating a pool in 1963 on clay wheels. Anyone know anything about this?
Was the last bowl they were skating in the video the dog bowl???
Would you mind if I air this on my weekly television show that I have done free for our county and town of Santa Cruz Calif.
