- In today's video covering more problematic F1 cars, we take a deep dive into one of Red Bulls worst, the 2015 Red Bull RB11. Designed by Adrian Newey, the Renault V6 powered car would be one of the worst performing made by Red Bull.
- Спорт
Adrian Newy took a step back in 2015-2018 because the was no point in him make an epic chassis with a garbage power unit.
Actually he stepped back for 2014,16,18. Not 15 and 18. 15 was the first car since desiging the 2011 car that he fully worked on.
@@MuhammadNiz007 Aand as far as I know, the only reason he wasn't completely onboard for 2016 was the Valkyre Project (or "RB-AM-01") and 2018 due to personal things. But I would say it was Honda and Max that rekindled his interest. He hated the Renault Engine and the restrictions it gave them with building the car.
If the new powertrain division and ford partnership don't workout, will they lose Newey?
@@y__h the coming powertrain even if it is labeled as Ford its still an in-house redbull engine which they get to decide exactly how they want it. Ford is only on for writing checks in exchange for promotion really, with some minor input if theyre needed. Considering Adrian just comitted to Redbull again pretty recently i dont see him going away before deciding to call quits on designing F1 cars
@@y__h Newey is 64, I doubt he will take on another team tbh. My guess is the contract he now signed will probably be his last one.
0:27 Wrong. Williams won in 2012 with the GOAT.
The Maldonator himself!
I think he was talking about championships
@@mrxbasyooo,Your here as well??!
Funny how the Renault power unit is STILL unreliable in 2023. ALMOST A DECADE since the turbo hybrid era lmao.
Very very Renault of them
just like their road cars
They’ve been in a 5 year plan for a gazillion years
They’ve been unreliable since the KERS V8 era
@@sandalphoncpu We can go even further back to Renault's horrible reliability during the 80s turbo era.
This is why Kvyat was so unlucky, being at the right place at the wrong time. Red Bull were capable of winning races since he got demoted to Toro Rosso.
Yeah as a Max fan he was fucked over big time, and i still felt bad. Especially when Marko said he had more talent than Gasly. Kid had so much potential but yeah really unlucky with the timing he was brought
You could argue Red Bull had at least 1 win from 2007 until 2015. Vettel's 2008 Toro Rosso was after all an RB3 with a Ferrari in the back. That's just 4 winless seasons out of 18 in the sport, including the Christian Klein/Vitantonio Liuzzi years...
When you think of all the team principle's who enter and exit the sport without ever getting a win, it's hard to not wonder what makes Chistian Horner so different to every other hyper successful talented flash in the F1 pan.
Horner at one point was both a Formula 3000 driver and running his own team. And with the latter, he became very successful before Red Bull asked him to run their team. That's a priceless and unique experience for a starting F1 boss. And already at a very young age, becoming the youngest team principal (even younger than his driver Coulthard). This gave him all the time to grow in his role and he's the longest-sitting team principal now.
Add to that, he came to the right place and at the right time. With Red Bull investing heavily in F1 and having no problem paying Adrian Newey 10 million a year to come to work for them.
05:51 Seb left for the spaghetti 😂😂
Even in the 2009-2013 era of Red Bull, the V8 was already fairly underpowered compared to what their rivals had, so the aero package had to be top fucking notch (which it was) to make sure they won races. That, and they had Seb
Yes and no
The engines were allowed to be equalised in terms of power more or less despite the engine freeze in 2006 circa 2009
Also the Renault V8 was the most fuel efficient and had the best drivability making the EBD work even better
The Renault V8 was a good engine and tbh there wasn’t really any bad engines in the V8 era maybe aside from the Cosworth engine that came back in 2010
@@RANDOMZBOSSMAN1 You sure? Even throughout the Red Bull era sources have said that the Renault engine was slightly lacking in power compared to what Merc and Ferrari offered, making that up through reliability, fuel efficiency and what not
This is what i was looking for. @gavcom4060 i appreciate for putting up this point. Renault in v10 and v8 era was underpowered but it was effiecient and reliable.
@@gavcom4060 Renault were given special allowance to make some power increase changes circa 2009 to more or less equalise the engine power of the big 3 engine suppliers
Mercedes had the most power yes but the margins were very small
You have to remember part of the reason RB were slow in a straight line was car philosophy as well in terms of chasing downforce
Example of this was in 2010 the Renault factory cars were regularly topping speed charts yet the RB were usually towards the bottom
@@gavcom4060 It may have been down on power, but it kept exaughtst gasses flowing even off throttle so the blown diffuser was always creating max downforce, and it had "traction control" in 2012.
These videos are so great, honestly I was very surprised that you only have 1790 subscribers. Keep up the great vids and work!
love this content, can definitely see this channel blowing up in the future
Dude your videos are really good. I kinda watched all them of them keep going man
I love the content energy flow and after checking your channel, could you please let me know from who the music is? Love it and keep up the content!
The irony of me getting a renault ad on the end of the video.
Dude I love these vids keep it up
Yet another great video! Keep at it, dude!
I'm loving your content, currently on video number four! Keep it up and the subs and views will get there. Don't give up on it!
Thank you!
F1 going 4cyl sounds good in theory, could’ve opened the door to more manufacturers. Maybe a follow up video on how an F1 4cyl would look and be set up, even though it’ll just look like a more reinforced junior formula.
that would've made Ferrari leave, they didn't want that
@@NeonColored I see. Maybe the Ferrari/Fiat/Arbarth connections could’ve cooked up something.
@@Midtable1881 well you would probably know by now but Brabham used a turbo 4cyl by BMW back in the early 80s and it became the 1st turbocharged f1 car to win a driver's championship.
@@vickramgangaram2925 I stand corrected, thank you!
I think it makes no sense when the engine is a stressed member of the chassis, in this case a v- shape is way more suited. This is also why the Porsche LMP1 car used to have a V4, but a V4 is especially irrelevant for road cars as the simplicity of an inline four makes it superior to a v-shape when it is not a stressed member.
The 2014 Ferrari was also a very miserable car. Fernando still pushed it to 2 podium, which would make an interesting video about another bad car that got pushed to its absolute limit.
Yeah, but they had their design completely ruined by the FIA banning linked front and rear suspension.
Ferrari had a better engine than red bull !
@@19megamustaine85 maybe more reliable than that shit Renault engine. But when Mercedes laps two seconds faster than anyone else it doesn’t really make a difference who’s engine was better at that point.
You could do the same type of videos, but for the amazing cars, would love to see it :)
I have just found you on Youtue... Love it... Great work...
Great job on the vid!
Great content! Keep it up!
When I first started watching F1 in the early 90’s Renault were light years ahead of everyone at the beginning of the V10 era. They also kicked off the turbo era mk I, so for them to fail so spectacularly at the dawn of the mk 2 era was quite a shock…
1:44 Inline 4s aren’t the most ridiculous idea. Brabham won the 1983 Drivers’ Championship with an inline 4 BMW engine, though it had two turbos and 1,200 bhp
Amazing video!
The 2014 car was awesome just unreliable with no top end speed. It was a total beast in the corners
i always thought curious that Red Bull's 2015 car looks like Ferrari's 2014 one and Ferrari''s 2015 car looks like Red Bull's 2014 one.
this video is criminally underrated
Bro looks like Brendon Hartley
All of Redbull cars have always been made to try and beat that guy who always spells trouble that bloody black Hamilton guy who has always been the best why Redbull had to cheat the cost cap
Getting real CraynkeeYankee F1 vibes and I’m loving it
I think redbull had the better car they only needed the Mercedes engine because that was also the reason why Williams with a bad cargot 3rd in the constuctors in 2014 and 2015
The Williams in 2014 and 2015 weren’t bad cars though. It wasn’t the best on the grid and it got a lot out of the engine but it was still a lot better than the Force Indias and the Lotuses that had the same engine. They got plenty of podiums as well, and no matter how you look at it a car that can get multiple podiums in a year and finish 3rd in the constructors is not a bad car.
Williams wasn’t a bad car tbh
It was very handy around lower downforce tracks due to his straight line efficiency and could have won a GP on pure pace in 2015 if it wasn’t for the rain at the British GP
They did a lot better than other Mercedes customer teams at time in Force India/McLaren/Lotus and Manor
@@RANDOMZBOSSMAN1
That's exactly why they did so good, their crappy aero produced very little drag and the mercedes engine gave them plenty of power. The martini williams was basically an f1 muscle car
@@ihavewaited90daystochangem51 looooool not an F1 muscle car that’s hilarious
It wasn’t bad around traditional tracks either only it’s weakness was around very high downforce track, like it was defo a decent car with a decent initial base but not a high ceiling
And then the 2017 changes came and the car philosophy couldn’t work in the wide car super high downforce era
I didn't ask for all your opinions
Bro i have that exact same calendar!
Renault is completely adrift. The 2024 season will almost certainly see them lose ground, and be struggling to.stay out of the cellar. They were hampered by a ridiculous corporate environment and a meddling CEO (also McLarens problem). New Alpine TP Bruno Famin has to right a ship that has been slowly sinking for years.
Titanium skid were for safety tho…
aston martin when
Sorry mate, but Williams won a race last in 2012
All Red Bull cars powered by Renault... pardon me " TAG Heuer" engines in the Hybrid era where rolling pieces of hot garbage (some more then others). mainly because of the before mentioned Renault engines. From best to worst I'd say RB12, 14 ,10 ,13 ,11. Gods was I, a firm believer in the superiority of Japanese engineering and hater of everything involving French automotive tech on cloud 9 the day they announced they partnered up with Honda.
Renault is/was a force in F1
After 10 years i am completely in shock at how shit the Renault power units are
My only complaint is your videos are too short! :)
Williams won in 2012. Da hell did 20 years come from
2013 McLaren next?
Dts fan at its finest
No way did you just say you could describe Red Bull from 2014 - 2020 with "Renault" 💀💀
Do you not know who supplied them in 2019 and 2020????
Yeah and finally in 2019 and 2020 you were able to see the light. In 2021 everyone knew if they can make the little bit better they can fight for the championship
No offense To All Mercedes Lovers but What redbull did here was a Mercedes In 22
Ericsson's fault
Spoiler alert. We live in 2023 not 2015👍
What? are you sure about that?
Umm bro 🤣....we live in 2016 don't we.....don't we? 😐
BS. Titantium was acutally better, because it was one of the best metal. They just bottled the season.
Not true
The FIA stated that the change to titanium resulted in 2-3 times faster wear rates
Hello
Such a red bull fan boy 😂
