- In this video jeweller and diamond setter Niels van Dooren carefully removing diamonds from an old cluster ring and a brooche. Then cleaning these stones and carefully mapping these on a new design. The diamonds vary in size therefore making it more complicated to create a nice 'touching' design between the different diamonds. The combination between flush/gypsy setting and traditional pavé make this ring a unique piece.
Afterwards the diamond are set in a solid/thick yellow gold ring in 14kt. The diamonds vary in size and therefore need to be carefully placed on the ring.
The diamond setting started from a center point, therefore also having the name micro pavé explosion. As the different size diamonds scatter away from the center stone the type and style of diamond setting varies. From the traditional micro pavé setting to half gypsy half micro pavé setting. Then, gently the diamonds are put in place into the ,relatively soft, yellow gold. With a tiny prong pusher the golden prongs are bent over the diamonds. Also with a soft hammer the gold metal is 'massaged' over the diamond girdles to firmly hold these into place.
The ring was later polished with high gloss diamond polish.

I'm an old man but I want to be like you when I grow up. Also I really like the way you take the time to answer any questions that people have had. I've learned a lot because of that.
