. The use of children's drawings help enhance the horror of the situation
. It has a happy ending. Something extremely rare in most analog horror

I like how Julia went from: "This kid is troubled and has quite the imagination" to "Yeah, it's totally the ghosts of a bunch of murdered kids" simply because she realized things weren't adding up, decided to do some investigating, and then actually _accepted her findings._
Too many people think being rational means rationalizing away anything that doesn't fit their world view, even when they have reason to suspect they might be wrong.
Over all, this was a nice little ghost story.

She found articles relating to missing children with the same first names. There was no mention of surnames from the kid, nor was there a mention of the way each child died aside from Mia. Do you know how many people named Travis must exist in a given area? Surely more than one, especially given the time span of 10 years, and tragedy is so common the chances of a dart hitting someone with that name are all but guaranteed. You're all giving it way too much credit.

    • @RelativelyBest
      @RelativelyBest 2 года назад +112

@@Alyrael Hold up. You're suggesting that this kid picked seven random names for her spooky imaginary friends - who all claim to be murder victims, by the way - and they _just happened_ to be the exact same names as those of a bunch of children who all went missing in the same region within the same decade?
I'm not a mathematician but the odds of that occurring have got to be pretty damn astronomical. If it was just one, I could accept it, but _seven in a row?_
For crying out loud, one of them was named "Zak", and she even got the spelling right.

Honestly the thing that makes me the most emotional is the fact that Julia actually respects Jess and the ghost children when she realizes they're real. She acknowledges them, asks for their input, thanks them when they help. It's just so... Humanizing, which is incredibly necessary because society so often dehumanizes and strips children of all agency. Children are people, they have thoughts and feelings and deserve to be listened to and respected. The only thing they don't have is experience and full brain development, but thats why we are here to help them! The ghost children are getting more respect and attention from a woman who can't even see them than they have in a long long long time and tbh it makes me cry I like it a lot. that's what literally a therapist should do. Open-mindedness is vital for a therapist. example there are some people that has sexual desire for children or violent tendencies that are...very graphic, and some gets help through a therapist and if they can't accept that, how are they gonna get their help? Its gone to the point where the video spoonfeeds the climax of the story (1:12:07).

They're children, no one dehumanizes them we just don't pretend they're little adults and force decisions on them that they shouldn't make hence why all this nonsense with kids is happening because adults give them way too much credit. Yes, they are smart for kids but they are still kids.

    • @marsfeathers
      @marsfeathers Год назад +11

@@TheUnseenPath "children" are not a monolithic group, they *are* small people that are individuals and deserve to be able to make decisions for themselves even early on. Being allowed agency in ways that are reasonable like allowing them to decide the styles they like and activities they might like to do or their opinions on big family decisions will help them not only have better understanding of themselves but of other people and how to interact with the world. Children model the behavior they see- we need to show them that we value them and they will value themselves *and* others. They aren't always going to make the right choices because they're young and they don't have the understanding born of experience but that doesn't mean they should be denied the humanity of being able to at least be PART of the conversation!

I really like how Mia wasn't a bad ghost and it looked like she had a sweet and kinda cute relationship with Jess, I think it is because she was a little bit older then Jess. If I remember correctly I think the newspaper said at the time of her disappearance and death Mia was just 9 years old, which means she was two years older then Jess and I do still hold on to my theory of how she must have saw Jess as a little sister and that is why she was so pertective of Jess.

I've read and watched too many series like this where the protagonist doesn't believe the kid until it's too late. Julia however, believed Jess from the start, and that's what I love about her. She doesn't treat Jess like any other guardian/authority figure would and just brush her aside, no, she listened. And because she listened, not only did she save Jess, she saved those children. The thing I love about this story too is that it has a happy ending. A gruesome one, but a happy one too.

A good analog horror sticks to its guns and remains simple, it doesn’t get complicated while trying to tell a story. This was a perfect example of this. You had the voiceover which kept your attention, while including the children’s drawings and written conversations between characters. Julia was rational as well, and when things didn’t add up she did the right thing by trusting her gut rather than putting the situation down to something clinical. This was a breath of fresh air, because the amount of times you get characters that refuse to accept things aren’t adding up and that it could be supernatural is ridiculous and infuriating.
While I suspected it was the Clarks, mainly because it made the most sense since it was THEIR house, the reveal didn’t fail to give me goosebumps. The off-key, eery music playing as the drawings came together to form one whole picture, the words “the children only remember pieces” as Julia reaches the revelation herself was masterfully done and really has you saying “those sick bastards” at your screen while watching.
The Adam and Shelly part of the story was so sad, especially when Shelly tells Jess that her dad tried to take her with him to heaven, but unfortunately she was trapped in the loop. I’d like to think Adam and Shelly reunited in heaven. It was nice to have an analog horror that ended happily, especially one based on missing children and their cold cases. Unfortunately, in reality, not every case ends this way.
And to wrap it up, I think adding Jess’ little voice at the end truly makes the story hit home. You truly realise how young this little girl is, you remember the entire story in an even more horrific light as you imagine this baby suffering like this. I just think it was great that you added that. But man, I could ramble on and on, I apologise for the essay but this really was fantastic. Well done. ❤️

He was probably just sad and overworked, but did love his daughter. Anyway between this, the tangi virus, and the oracle project it's been great I hope to find more like this.

The usage of disturbing children’s drawings for a (basically) horror movie is incredible. I was on edge 5 minutes in. I used to work with kiddos and some of the stuff they said was uncomfortable because they haven’t formed that filter between brain and mouth. So utilizing that unfiltered thought process for a horror story that’s more dread than “ah spooky” is great. And I’m also happy to see finally a good ending to story. IT IS PERFECTLY FINE TO HAVE A GOOD ENDING! In a lot of modern stories, we want the characters to win and be okay, not suffer. A good ending for a horror story is absolutely fine if you make the characters realistic and likable. All that is a basic way of me saying 10/10 absolutely fantastic, you had a chokehold on me immediately.

This was one of the greatest analogue horror I have ever watched, and believe me I have seen plenty. I love how the story is told through a child’s drawings, it makes it more unsettling since you’d expect an innocent little girl to be completely normal and draw cute simple things like flowers and puppies. Julia is a wonderful therapist and I love how she began to believe Jess despite how nonsensical her story sounded, rather than just trying to put together a logical answer like John (typical John behaviour.) And at one point in the video when Jess showed her drawings to Julia, my jaw completely dropped when I saw that burger sign. Everything clicked. I already had my suspicions towards the Clarks since the ghost were located in the basement of their old home but that drawing confirmed it for me, and the faces drawn in the windows in the next drawings solidified my theory, it looked like them. I feel so terribly sorry for the innocent children and no words can describe how happy I felt when karma hit the Clarks right in their faces and the children were finally free and got their revenge. I admit the ending made me emotional and I teared up, and Jess’s voice was just adorable. This is now one of my favourite videos on the Internet.

A few more things I forgot to mention in my original comment:
      - I think it’s incredibly sad that Adam had to die by the hands of that old bastard Clark, right after he chose to become a better father and better husband for his family
      - The drawing where Adam was reaching out to Shelly and try to set her free, while the little girl desperately tried to hold his hand with no success saddened me
      - I think it was genius how it turns out every drawing were little pieces of one large drawing depicting the event that changed the lives of those poor children forever, it made alot of sense since Jess kept saying they only remembered small pieces of what happened.
      - And lastly I found the drawings of the dead children terrifying, especially Kate, though it broke my heart when Jess said every hand represented the hands of the people who hurt her. I can’t imagine what happened to that poor little sweetheart, and the other children.

This is such a hidden gem. The story was engaging, even if it wasn't exactly a mystery (not a bad thing!). The characters, especially of the ghostly variety, felt realistic and worth following to the melancholic end. Telling the story through child's drawings was very smart and incredibly well done, especially with how the puzzle pieces fell together by the end. I'm very excited to see more from you and this world in the future!
If you'd like some advice from an immersion perspective, there were a few things that I think could use some improvement. For example, Julia sounded more like she was reading from a script and less like she was speaking to a child in a recorded session. Maybe this is because she was meant to be reading the questions in post, but I think it would've been more immersive if she sounded like she was actually having a conversation with Jess and reacting to her during the session. Also, as someone mentioned before I think Jess was occasionally verbose for her age. This last part is less of a criticism and more of a personal opinion, but I don't think the dad needed to die to move the story along. I feel like it was an unnecessary risk for the killers to take considering the town was already unlikely to believe a little girl's ghost story, on top of it feeling more like shock factor and less something that actually impacted the characters. Also it just made me sad lol.
Overall, everything you do is very well done and always has me wanting more, so kudos to you!

Sure it was pretty simple and you have an idea what’s gonna happen, but I still loved it! There were definitely moments where I had my doubts and thought otherwise, like assuming John being a ghost, thinking the dad wanted to lead his family away from the house, but I’m glad it ended the way it did.
As for critiques, I’ll admit Jess sounded a bit too smart for her age with that vocabulary but I didn’t mind it as much. I just love the drawings and how they were used here. Usually in stories you have them play a small part for creep factor for the creepy child, but to have them be the main focus, and as a way to tell the story? Brilliant! Julia was a great lead protagonist, and I enjoyed how she quickly came around and wanted to help as best she could. Her notes along with John were great, allowing us to see more into her life. I just love how real this all felt, with the characters and just everything. And I’m just glad you played this story straight instead of making it sad and dark for the sake.

I really can't express this enough how much the ending made the story
it's always a given for these kinds of stories to have a bad ending, but... this is so much more impactful that way, at least for me
tragedy may linger, but what's the point of that lingering if it's just so disappointing in the end, right? like remembering an embarrassing thing you did
this may rest in my mind and heart for a while, such, such an amazing story..

I love this series because everything is connected
edit: I want to add to this, I mean't everything is in the same place such as the tangi virus, oracle, and this and it may not connect directly but moving on I love this alone because it is about an innocent girl who is being well, held captive by greater spirits that not even an adult can comprehend. Yet a simple therapist with problem solving and some thinking, along with the dead children and jess, solve a decade trafficking crime and though I think of this like FNAF where the criminals are never really "exposed" but sometimes being punished is more than enough. Though this is a story to tell, no one believes stories anymore. Quite an ending and I take up your time @vintage eight and i do apologize but i just needed to say that this is the greatest analog horror channel I've come across.

I don’t usually show much for emotions, especially as far as tears go (this is because of some shit i’ve been through, not really important to talk about right now.) and when Jess said ‘They’re free now’ it made my eyes INSTANTLY well up and about a second or so later I shed 2 tears, one from each eye. that is a lot for me, its like my version of absolutely bawling since usually my eyes will get wet extremely slowly and then maybe i’ll shed one tear or ill blink and my eyelashes stick to each other slightly from dampness (that is if i am very emotional, sometimes it just gets only a little wetter than usual on my eyes and then dries up after a second) this series made me oddly happy :) thank you.

just passed by your channel after the tangi virus hopped on to my recommended section. Jesus christ I dont think I have been this invested in an analog story series before. I saw in one of your other comments that most of these stories are connected, although loosely for a lot of them (I think this takes place at the same area as the tangi virus vid?). Anyways, despite there being no jumpscared (or hell, nothing that is even frightening to look at, at all), my hair was raised. I guess this could be called a thriller? The drawings were done pretty great, exactly how a kid would do it but still had that super creepy factor of what she was actually drawing. In hindsight, I guess it would be obvious that the clarks probably were responsible for killings, but as someone who saw all of these episodes in just one sitting, it was great. Especially with the (sorta) happy ending, where the dead kids got their revenge and how Jess got her voice back.
favourite so far has been the tangivirus series and whatever sequels were related to that. From a scientist who gets targeted and infected when people realized that she knew to a story of a man that is talking to a re-activated Cold War A.I. to help alleviate the fate of humanity. Creative and great stuff, though it did get a bit confusing with how the backwards/forwards many/few fit in, how the A.I. knew about it. Cause if forwards many/few are all humans, how would the AI know which to pick (I assume that the backwards many/few are the nonhuman anternate timeline species that looks like humans that the A.I is referring to)? would it just pacify both? would it "influence" one of the backwards into sending tapes back in time that would accelerate the creation of the internet/A.I. like how some of the forwards did? I probably got some details wrong lol.
my only wish is that these series of yours were more popular, so that there could be more of a discussion going. Would be really nice to see what kind of thoughts people have on the "one of us" movie, as that one seems to be the most open one of the bunch.
anyways, look forward to whatever new series it is that you will produce, you have a real talent for this, especially with the presentation too.

I recently found this through another channel, and I have to say this is one of THE best pieces of analog horror out there--breaching what would often be considered analog horror and instead being a full-on story, written with passion. I'm not a big fan of books or stories, I only stick around when I'm hooked, and this was one of those. I wouldn't have ever expected some of these twists and turns within the story, it always keeps you on edge and sometimes hits hard. Very much worth my time and worth anyone else's, absolutely incredible.

This was a great series, I think it has a nice amount of suspense and mystery to keep you invested. My only real gripe was how monotoned Dr. Luu sounded especially when she got the call about Adam. Jess's hand writing also looks like an adult trying to emulate a child's hand writing; like it's still too clean despite Jess sounding like she's around 4-5 years old. But it's not bad, just my small nitpicks. Can't wait to watch the rest of your Analog Horror and short films!

From start to finish, this series has got to be up there in my top 3 favorite series in the analogue horror genre. This personally strikes a nerve because violence against children is on of the worst things a person can do-- fictional or IRL. Thank you to you Vintage Eight & everyone else who worked on it for bringing such a fantastic story. I wish you the best on all future creative endeavors!

I really loved this, the story was compelling, the use of the drawings was wonderful, the Clarks were great villains, and All of the characters were wonderfully expressed, even her father. My favorite part, though, is that there was a happy ending- I don't think I've seen that in any analogue horror

WOW. Exceedingly well made with an interesting premise - and that twist near the end was PHENOMENAL. More people should get to see this because it honestly not only proves even a simple setup can be absolutely terrifying, but also that it's all you need to tell a good story. Shoutouts to how the subject matter of trafficking was written, especially - it wasn't written in for shock value; it was given an actual spotlight and depth and served as a point behind the whole story. Bravo, and thank you for delving into a deeply distressing subject with utmost respect.

I just watched this for the very first time, after watching the video pop on my recommended so many times- and I'm so incredibly glad that I did!!! I put it on so I could watch something while I was drawing, and ended up getting entirely engrossed in the story!!
Your storytelling is incredible- this gave me the same feelings I felt reading a ghost story for the first time!! I thought the perspective of a child therapist who genuinely cares for, believes, and wants to help this little girl was something that we don't see a lot in horror- it was so refreshing to see someone take her problems seriously, and even allow herself to consider supernatural reasons instead of immediately ruling it all out!!
    (Spoilers below here!!)
My first moment of "Hm" was when we saw Jess's depiction of the Clarks from the very beginning- they got a very distinct characterization and look to them! I filed that away for later, though- the storytelling of having Jess's responses be entirely in the form of pictures and writing drew all of my attention!! I'm just a student right now, but I found myself taking note of Jess's drawings in the same way that Julia might have- I picked up on every living person having colors except for Adam, which made him stand out as something a bit more grim. I was initially worried that Adam would be the killer- what a fun twist we got!! Now, after finishing, I'm realizing that it was how Jess saw him- probably tired from working so much, and maybe not able to outwardly express his love because of that. But as we saw him making *genuine* efforts to be better for his wife and kids, and how hard he tried to believe Jess until the end- it made me really emotional. (The detail of us losing the father was such a twist!! I really enjoyed the ride that gave me!!)
(The part that hurt the most was Shelly saying that he reached out for her when he died- he was a genuinely good man. Even when he was taken out of the world, and when he realized he wouldn't be able to protect his own daughter anymore, he still tried to protect the first little girl he saw- and poor Shelly couldn't go with him.)
I thought an absolutely wonderful detail was having there be nothing under the house- at least, nothing physical! I was really expecting the story to have the parents denying it until the very last minute, then digging things up and finding the kids- but that added more to the confusion of "where ARE the kids? And why are they here?" And Jess's designs for the ghosts said so much, while showing us so little- the real horror was what my mind filled in the gaps with, and you did an amazing job of bringing that out!! (The ghost that "had one hand for every hand that hurt her" made me so sad- it showed that all of these kids really did end up on separate paths to different places, and experienced so many different kinds of horrors, but all ended up back under that house. It's hard to know what truly goes on in the child trafficking industry, because it's so hard to get missing children back alive. Some of them died with the people they were sold to- some were passed to different people, over and over- and some like Mia never even made it to where they were going.)
The trafficking ring broke my heart- we saw our resolution with the Clarks, and we know they got what they deserved. (Jess's depiction said everything it needed to say- they went exactly where they belonged.) And even though the children were finally free and able to move on, it made me realize that it would be near impossible to track down all of their remains- trafficking is such a nasty thing, in that it keeps us from knowing exactly where those kids went, and what happened to them, and where they could even be found now.
I especially got chills with the dialogue of the Clarks- I was so afraid that Julia would die, I had to remind myself that she was narrarating!! Which meant she lived!! But the Clarks justifying their own actions added a note of nuance to them. Were they 100% monsters, both in actions and words? Kind of. But in their eyes, they needed money- they did what they needed to survive. And although it was absolutely horrendous, it definitely made sense why the kids wouldn't have made contact while the Clarks were living there. How do you come to terms with your own murderers when they don't come to terms with their actions?
(Them remembering the kids' names- and giving us names that we *hadn't* heard before from Jess- was a really chilling detail. To some degree- even if it was subconsciously- they knew what they'd done wasn't right. They knew enough to be afraid when the kids remembered. Watching their own illusion of not "killing the children" shatter was a really eerie moment.)
And finally, hearing Jess's sweet voice- combined with that picture of the children being freed- brought me to tears!! Jess had such a deep trust in Julia, and Julia valued that trust so much- it was so endearing to me when we learned that both Jess and Mia liked Julia, and that they both trusted her. Julia did so much, both as a therapist and a human being- and I hope that when she did eventually die in 2015, she was able to see what she did for all of the dead children too.
I'm tremendously sorry for this novel of a review- I thought this video was such a gem of a horror to watch, and I think it deserves so much more attention for how much work went into it!! It's always enjoyable to watch more mainsteam analog horrors, but there are ones like this that are just as compelling to watch!! I wanted to share all of my thoughts to let you know how wonderful of an experience this was!!! I hope you have a wonderful day- I'm going to try recommending this to some of my favorite RUclipsrs to react to!! ☺

This story is so good, first time seeing a kid's drawings as a form of illustration. Also, so glad there was no annoying loud noises as jumpscares or distorted faces (in terms of an actual photo), while it was cool and creepy when it was first used it is now cliche (at least for me). Such a refreshing story and concept 10/10.

The whole story was so well told, and I was so immersed in it. But when the killers were revealed, I was so shocked. I didn’t even expect it, just thought they were some extras, not vital clues. When the pictures were pieced together, it all clicked and all the strange, random facts became the biggest indicators.
