      There’s the additional ending which is on RUclips there’s the additional shredder beating up the foot clan for failing, then there’s this. The original movie was probably gonna be closer to two hours long!

      I can confirm having seen this in the theaters that a large portion of this was in the theatrical cut. I always wondered what happened to the farm meditation and training scene after it was released on VHS because it was missing ever since. I assume it may have been budget costs to make it fit on VHS more easily, and then they simply never bothered with restoring it.

      The original cut would have probably been given the PG-13 rating. The studios would not have wanted that since they view TMNT as child friendly, and removed scenes to keep it PG.

      Lol! I love TMNT the way it is. This cool, but it's not really integral to the plot.

    • @mightyfilm

      It's a shame that New Line Cinema or Warner Bros or whoever basically treated the cut footage as poorly as it did, not even putting them on any of the DVD release. There was a minor push to get a special edition TMNT '90 DVD back in the day, but it gained absolutely no traction. A scene of them training for battle wouldn't have killed the pacing or been completely irrelevant to the plot. But there was an unwritten rule that "kid's movies" couldn't exceed a certain 90 minute timeframe. Besides, who wouldn't want to see more footage of the Turtle suited stuntmen in action? Though, I'll agree the actual ending they intended (the one where April and Casey sell the story to a comic book company) would have been unnecessary. Too bad stingers after the credits didn't exist back then.

  • @mywhychromosome
    @mywhychromosome 3 года назад +26

    One aspect I LOVED about the cut scenes on the farm, was the completion/inclusion of Mikey's emotional arc in the film, a plotline that was essentially cut out entirely when they removed those parts: Towards the very start of the film, when Mikey and Donnie are waiting for the pizza in the sewer, Don tries to prompt Mike: "Do you ever think about with Splinter, y'know...not having him around?", and Mikey noticeably ignores the question, responding about the pizza guy being late...So then, cut to later on, at the farmhouse...Mikey, the 'lighthearted, comedic relief' turtle...has the biggest breakdown of them all. There's the cut scene where he destroys the barn working out, screaming and bugging out...then, even in the finished film, there's a scene of a turtle from afar, seen on the edge of a cliff in moonlight, screaming "SPLINTERRRR!"...it's Michaelangelo, but bc they cut out his other parts here, they overdub the scene with Raphael's voice in the finished cut...then, once again, a scene that's left in the finished cut, but doesn't make any sense with the other parts removed...Casey and April are sitting together, they see Mikey walk in, and at first seem very tense...then he picks up the "Turtle Wax", makes a joke about it, but very quiet, mumbled...like he's justtttt starting to turn back to the old Mikey...and boh Casey and April sigh in relief, like, "*phew*....he's comin' back, we got him...". I realize this video was more specifically about the TRAINING sequences, blindfold etc, but being that the Mikey scenes are from the same VERY cut-up section (supposedly because of the 'darkness', the same reason the original director was fired, despite the fact that he hands-down made the best Turtle film in existence thus far...sigh....[Sorry, I realize this is a long ramble, and I apologize if I clogged the thread up...but I just always thought this was such a missed opportunity, the more I learned about it...]

    • @shawnconder4984

      I always hated that they cut Mikey's character development. Yeah he's the jokester, but a lot of people like that are just using it as a cover. I wish they would have shown his absolute melt down in the barn and not overdubbed Raph yelling for Splinter. If they would have shown it, it also would have added more weight to why he was the one crying in the camp fire scene.

    • @mywhychromosome
      @mywhychromosome 3 года назад +5

      @@shawnconder4984 Yes, I am totally with you...and good call on his tears in the campfire scene! I forgot about that. Raph had always been my fav, so I was fine that he got a lot of focus in the first film...but the point being, there was plenty of room for the rest of the turtles to get some, too...and Michaelangelo being the one that probably deserved/needed it the most...a shame. Side note: Have you ever listened to the Director's Commentary?? Bizzarely, its only on the German DVD, but thankfully, its up online with instructions on how to sync it up with the English DVD, so you can play them together...wanna try that out soon

    • @MarkHoltze
      @MarkHoltze 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@shawnconder4984 I would have liked a more on screen well rounded Mikey character for sure, but as a kid even with these scenes gone it DID feel like we got one, at least I felt it when I was younger. I always wondered it was Raph's voice screaming for Splinter at the top of the farm though, when clearly Mikey's weapons were visible on his belt....part of the cut story arc as you mentioned.

    • @mywhychromosome
      @mywhychromosome 3 месяца назад +1

      @@AnthonyPearson4JesusofNazareth Of course! It was Steve Barron, still credited (thankfully) in the final cut. I went back to make sure I had my facts straight, and while there’s some conflicting/unclear info, it seems like he was there for the majority of the film, and then they “completed production” without him…not totally sure if that means there were scenes they shot without him, or if it was just post-production. They did kick him off, though. They also fired the editor, Sally Menke, who was the editor for the first 5 or so Tarantino films, so we know she’s great at what she does…it was almost like the studio wanted something not as good as what we got, lol.

      Unfortunately, it seems like except for the one generation that came of age when these movies were 'new', they are all but forgotten...not to sound cliche, but the more I read and ask around, to anyone who has grown up with CGI being the norm, anything with 'guys in suits' is essentially just considered a b-movie now, a joke...it's a bloody shame. Don't know what they are missing. I was watching just the isolated clip of Splinter talking to Raphael about his rage..."turned inward, it is an unconquerable enemy"...and I don't know if it was just the day I was having, or nostalgia, or what, but I actually found myself TEARING up! What's most sad is that portions of those scenes existed in the original theatrical version, but were cut from the home video release.
    I saw the movie a couple times in theaters. When I got the movie sticker book later, it had a sticker of Don with the hat and piece of straw leaning on the fence and I remembered that scene very clearly at the time. Ditto with a scene of one of them turning his mask around (pretty sure it was Leo). The whole cut part wasn't a long sequence (definitely only a small bit of what was storyboarded) but it was present in the theatrical cut for sure. So the footage probably still exists somewhere.

    I never noticed it before until I watched this video but during the entire field training sequence Michelangelo bandana is sideways and he’s fighting blindfolded.

    I know that some parts of this scene is in some promotional idioms for the movie like the story book with audio tapes, the joiner novel, & in the comic.

    I dunno if anyone else remembers this cause I haven't looked all the way through the comments section, but when I was a kid, I thought I remembered a story book kinda one of those flat paper ones you'd get at school book fairs and things, where they had a scene like this drawn out in the 80/90's toon style with Leo pulling his mask around for this training and explaining what to do or something. I dunno if I'm remembering that right though and I don't still have the book, but I just thought it was interesting.

    I swear to god i saw this scene in the movie when i was a kid! I swear. When i got the home release and it wasnt in the movie i was so confused. I distinctly remember Leo turning his headband around and asking the other 3 to attack him. He owns them, and explains that fighting isnt about what you see, you have to use all your senses! It was awesome, and im confused to this day why its not in the movie. Does ANYONE else remember this??!

    Awesome video thank you for the update!
    I’m still curious about part of the farmhouse setting, while Aprils does a monolog/narration of how everyone is handling themselves she does NOT mention Michelangelo. E.G. Donatello took to Casey, and Leo watched over Raphael.
    What was Mikey doing?

    Kudos for the storyboard share. It should be a playable onscreen feature alongside the movie on an official Golden Harvest, Henson, Independent artists' retrospective edition box set with merch to increase collector market interest(toy, badge, card collectors etc.)

    This would had given more character developement for Leonardo, yes we get the meditation and Splinters spirit scene, but this could have been so much better, we just see a montage with everyone doing this for a few seconds, never get to know that Leonardo actually taught them all this.
