So to open File explorer it's just Win+E if you want a new chrome window and want a new one it's Ctrl+N (works in almost every program for a new whatever that program does) and for incognito Ctrl+Shift+N

Your screenshot saving process baffles me. Win+Prt Scr immediately saves the screenshot in the Pictures folder. OR if you want more control over it, or simply less key to press, you use ShareX where you can set Prt Scr to save the image to whatever folder with whatever name you want (or upload to whatever page or do whatever with it...)

  • @wossman

*A quicker way of getting into the UEFI is* to run "shutdown /r /t 0 /fw" from an _administrative_ command prompt. The r means restart. The fw means restart to firmware and the t is a timer - 0 seconds in this case. To get an administrative command prompt open the start menu and type "cmd" then hold down _Ctrl_ and _Shift_ as you hit enter or click on the "Command Prompt" search result. This saves you the extra step of the intermediate reboot.
*And to make things even quicker,* you could create a new desktop shortcut to "cmd /c shutdown /r /t 0 /fw" and name it something like Boot to UEFI. After creating the shortcut, right click on it and select Properties. On the Shortcut tab, click the Advanced button and select the option to Run as Administrator. Now all you have to do is double click on the shortcut, accept the confirmation prompt and the system will reboot into the UEFI.

Center click- nice. At work 'a few years back' I asked/ suggested that they did a simple tech tip each day and send it out to everyone on our network. e.g CTRL +C, CTRL +V for shortcuts etc. I figured if everyone learned just 1 new thing every day that in a year we would learn so much... Unfortunately due to work constraints, holidays etc many of us ended up with about 100+ emails put to the side to read 'when I/ we got some time' to focus on them lol. We still learned some tips but not as many as I'd ideally wanted to. There are so many things that we learn on computers that we take for granted using software etc.

👀 Cool. I didn't know about the emoji thing. One that has been around for ages that I use is right click in the bottom left corner of your screen to bring up a menu of useful Windows stuff: Apps & Features / Pwr Options / Event Viewer / System / Device Manager ...
Also, Windows+T will allow you to quickly tab through the apps (repeatedly pressing T) on your taskbar then hit Enter, so you don't have to count which number the app is. Also you can go higher than 9 apps this way.
Also, in the bottom right corner, you can click show/hide/peek desktop easily and quickly.

  • @FreakGene

This was simpler in windows 7 but...
Windows Key + Up arrow will maximize the screen if it isn't
Windows Key + Down will take a maximized screen to "normal/adjusted" size, if its already that then it will just minimize
Windows Key Right/Left to snap to that side at half a screen, if you have multiple screens you can use this to half go from one side to the other in half snaps
Now for Windows 10 and i think some of 8 i cant remember
If its already half snapped Windows + Up/Down will quarter snap it to the same side but upper or lower corner
Once its half or quarter snapped it will half to hit Escape as it will want you to keep going filling up your screen with other open applications, or you can select other open applications to fill more of the screen, most of the time it will properly snap it, other times not so much...

That didn’t help me get to my bios without a keyboard 😒 my keyboard doesn’t power on until after the option to enter BIOS has already passed. Disabled fast start up and still the same problem. Please help me find out how to fix this!

If you’ve updated bios and can’t enter bios from restart you may need to clear cmos to enter bios and make the second boot option the same drive as first windows boot manager drive. I updated bios on a gigabyte board and it rearranged my boot order which would fast boot into windows every time.

Some of this I had already knew from just messing around. The shift + restart was VERY helpful and I am much appreciative of this info. Also 🐱‍👤👍

you can remove the search Bar in the bottom by right clicking on it. There is no need for it, cause you can search in the start menu and save space on the task bar

Basic and easy video. Had good info.
Chrome, CTRL + T = new tab CTRL + N = new window (also works with file explorer)

Might as well also add Ctrl+Shift+Tab as well, which opens the last tabs you closed, I find it very useful (Firefox user, but I think it works on all of the browsers)

A couple more I find useful. Windows+D to minimise all open windows, then hit it again to bring them all back. Windows+L to lock your computer, handy when you're in the office and need to duck away for a minute.

One thing about emoji shortcut: it doesn't necessarily work on keyboard layouts other than English. I haven't tested other languages than Polish, but it doesn't certainly work on Polish Programmer's layout. The good news is you can easily switch keyboard layouts by pressing left shift+left alt simultaneously (hey, another free tip to your collection!)

I came in to this video thinking "I probably already know all these and these are basic tips for newer users." I just found out 4 new tricks I never knew existed. I knew about middle clicking on browsers, I didn't know it also worked on Windows.

I really enjoy alt+arrow left or right for going back and foreword in chrome/browers/file explorer for quick navigation. Expecally when looking a pages with a lot of links.
