My biggest complaint with the 7Artisans 60mm Macro lens is how easily I can bump the aperture when holding it. Too many pictures that should be F8 end up at F2.8!

Hello Chris. Can we have a tour of your home studio? Your setup and charts that you use? Interesting to see how you cope with different focal lengths and how far you have to stand to get your charts in. I bet that gives you a real challenge sometimes. Thank you and God bless.
I own the Sigma 70mm Macro Art and the lack of stabilization hasn’t been a problem for me even on the Sony a6400. I am either in a tripod or have the shutter speed a little higher when handheld and haven’t noticed any sharpness issues.
@@fellowcitizen oh I see. So could you buy the L mount converter, swap the lens e bayonet with the tele body bayonet with a mini screwdriver so it all couples again. you would loose the electronic controls but use the lens in full manual?
I would be interested as well. I want to dabble into macro photography and can't care less about auto focus. I have plenty of lenses in that focal range with AF
If Sigma started to make lenses for the Fuji X mount, I would start buying tomorrow. They seem to hold themselves to outstanding standards, which is more than I can say about other 3rd party manufacturers that focus on Fuji.
Not leave often a comment but thanks for your reviews, they helped me a lot. Especially as i am currently thinking about switching systems from canon to sony and do quite often product and macro shots this one really was interesting. Keep up the good work

thats my worries, buy the old with IS and save money, og would i be more happy with the new one? I have the sigma 35mm art, and 50mm Art for canon and use it om a 5D mrk4
I really enjoy your review videos. It's pleasant to watch, esp. with that piano playing in the background. Just a suggestion to your Sony e-mount lens: Replace the Sony alpha with the newer 3rd gen or 4th gen to better reflect on autofocus speed test. Best would be a7R4. You have the best AF, and ability to crop to about 26MP aps-c mode. This is better than using a5100 as a test for crop camera image.
I would like to upgrade to a Sony a7R III (I want to stay testing lenses in the 42-45mp area) but it will cost me £700 to do so, just so that I can show a slight difference in autofocus - I just can't afford that I'm afraid!
That aperture ring really is nice! Speaking of Sigma, have you considered retesting the 50-100 f1.8 "Art" on the M6 Mark ii? Would be interesting to know whether it can resolve such a demanding sensor.
A very nice review. Have you tested the Sony 90 macro lens? If so, which one would you choose for car/car details photography? Is the 90’s AF system so much of a value, comparing to the 105’s price, focal length and weather sealing?
There hasn't been a bad 90-120mm macro lens in the last 20years. This new Sigma is no exception. LoCA control is outstanding, ghost flare is minimal, remarkable. The color and bokeh rendering are two slight shortcomings. Look at maybe Contax645 Zeiss 120mm, Voigtlander 125mm or Fuji GFX 120mm F4.
That aperture ring design is what I'd love to see in their X mount lenses whenever that happens. Wish Fuji could follow that engineering design too. Although that's nit-picking in a way from me.
Great lens for the price, although it has ugly look, OS is noisy, autofocus is a bit slow and hunting but I adjust the autofocus limiter switch and it focus faster. Great for handled macro and also portrait
I just bought this lens. I’ve tried it today and it’s really amazing! I love using macro lenses for many different types of photography, including portraits. But this lens is far from quiet though, when it comes to autofocus! Is it my copy or is it normal with this lens? It makes a lot of noise, also in video mode.
What you described isnt focus breathing. Focus breathing is a term that describes the change in focal length that occurs as a result of adjusting the focusing distance of a lens. What you showed is the camera searching a focus.
The ability to quickly switch to manual focus and having the manual focus be mechanical is what makes the Sony G worth it if you're going to shoot macro regularly and have the extra cash. My only complaints about it are the amount of focus breathing (which might be inevitable, but isn't ideal for stacking focus) and shorter focal length. I shoot insects a lot and would love something like a 135mm macro for it so I don't spook them...
I forget if it was Sigma or Tamron, but one of them used to make a 180mm macro lens, which I almost decided to get (for the exact same reason that you want that 135mm macro). I'm afraid they stopped making it though, but I still somewhat hope for an updated/new version of it.
It looks pretty fantastic, this is what I'd want if I wasn't perfectly happy with my Laowa 100mm. If I ever need AF in a macro lens and if this is ever available for Nikon Z this the lens I'd go for.
Wishlist for a Mark 2 version is: F2.0 (or f1.8, but that would be giganormous) Min 11 aperture blades OIS (but not necessary) Would be the perfect macro and portrait lens
Christopher, thank you for another excellent review. How much easier is it to hold the lens steady at 1:1 macro using the Sony 90mm's OSS&IBIS vs. IBIS only for the Laowa or Sigma?
I didn't have a lot of money and ended getting myself an older Sigma EX 105mm f2.8 DG OS Macro HSM for my Canon D1X MK III, and I really enjoy using it .......
Great review again thanks! Would definitely consider getting this if I didn’t have the 90mm Sony macro. The Sony has heavy focus breathing too, but I do like that it has OSS. Great seeing Sigma bringing out more of these fantastic options (love my Sigma 24-70 DN) 🤩🥳
Hi, thanks for the amazing review! I own a Sony a6100 and I predominantly use it for food photography. Do you think the lack of lens stabilization is a major issue, especially as I usually use a tripod?

The focus selector in AF? 3. Focus mode at AF-C? 4. Area of focus, Center or width? 5. Measurement mode, center or multi? I am having a hard time learning to control all your settings, please help me
Great review as usual, Chris. That said, next time you're talking to Sigma, please encourage them to start releasing lenses like this for the RF mount. I love my EOS R, but I am not as enamored with Canon's lens pricing. It sure would be nice to have some third-party optics to choose from, especially ones made by Sigma. :-)
Don't worry, I think they already know that everyone wants these lenses on RF and Z mount cameras, too :-) my guess is that it's just a question of manufacturing capacity, and getting the autofocus algorithms sorted out etc (that's just my guess, though)
@@christopherfrost Thank you for the reply. You know, this raises another interesting topic for potential discussion. As a long time Olympus, and Canon user, I naturally have observations about both systems, many positive and some not so positive. While people are always arguing the technical aspects of various cameras/lenses/systems, what is often missed is the relative financial considerations. I think, Canon, Olympus, Nikon, Pentax, Fuji, etc. probably all make superb equipment for the most part, along with the occasional "dog," but it would be very interesting to compare systems in terms of total cost of ownership--average lens price, maintenance costs, etc. While a camera body and a kit lens can be enough to lure you in, what may not be obvious is how expensive a particular brand can be as you seek to flush out your camera bag with the items you need to get the shots you want. Let's face it, if you're buying a camera with an interchangeable lens mount, it isn't because you plan to never use more than one lens. Over the years, I've found my Olympus System to be generally good value for the money. I've been able to afford professional spec'd optics, and get long and reliable service from everything. After buying the Canon EOR R, with the 24-105 f/4L, I have looked at other RF mount lenses, but to date, I have avoided buying any due to their remarkably serious price points, and weight penalties. Anyway, it would be interesting to see how systems compare in terms of price when, say, a body, wide zoom, standard zoom, and long lens are thrown in for consideration. This could be done in two parts--at the consumer level, and at the serious level. Just a thought, and thanks again for the excellent videos.
Any chance you can do a quick test for coma and astigmatism? Some macro lenses are said to be quite good for astro considering their flat field of view. This one seems to have exceptional sharpness all the way to the corners, and the corners aren't very dark either.
I only really do coma tests for wider angle lenses with brighter apertures. With astigmatism, you can get a good indication of that on the test chart picture :-)
You got me really confused.. I was set to buy the Sony 90mm Macro, but now there is this.. I prefer the longer focal length, but I feel like the autofocus on the sony and the overall sharpness of the sony is better.. Being that I have the Tamron 90mm Macro.. and now the Canon 35mm RF macro.. I think Im covered.. If I wanted another I'd go with that skinny laowa lens.
Can you do a video where in you review the autofocus of sony 18-105mm with a6000 with sports outdoors. Like how it would track the subject moving side to side. I really would like to know how the autofocus performs.
A very good price for a lens like this in my opinion. The 90mm macro from Sony on the other hand has also OSS, but is also more expensive - the real question is if the higher price also shows in its features (it actually still has a mechanical manual focus - so good for macro!) and image quality.
I am wondering if the Sigma 105mm F2.8 DG DN MACRO Art FE-mount firmware update requires a Sigma USB docking station, as I failed to find it available for FE mount.
That aperture ring with the declicking and especially the ability to lock it should be the new standard for all lenses
Definitely agree. It's really enjoyable to use
As should the rubber gasket. Silly that any lens over $100 doesn't have a rubber gasket.
My biggest complaint with the 7Artisans 60mm Macro lens is how easily I can bump the aperture when holding it. Too many pictures that should be F8 end up at F2.8!
@@aliendroneservices6621 Yes, I hate how all these companies force segmentation between consumer and pro lenses by leaving off a $0.50 gasket.

Sigma 180mm f / 3.5 EX APO DG HSM Macro or Sigma 150mm f / 2.8 APO EX DG HSM Macro? which is better?
Could you please test 17mm-28mm tamron lens? :)
Eventually I will
@@christopherfrost Thank you, your work is much appreciated :).
