I grew up with this movie, labelled "My Brother, Superman." No idea how my grandparents got it, but once I saw this was up I happily rewatched with a friend. I choked. There are scenes in this video that i had NEVER seen before, meaning that the weird dialogue and looping animation i had noticed in my dvd were where scenes were CUT from the DVD I had of the movie. This includes Lisa explaining she's an anthropology major studying vips, which makes SO MUCH MORE SENSE WHY SHE WENT THROUGH ALL THAT TROUBLE, as well as a lot of scenes of her and Super VIP hanging out.
My friend/roommate pointed out that while the film has underlying tones (well they're pretty overt actually) of racism toward Asian people, feminism wise it's...really progressive for 1968?? Lisa is an anthropology major who takes the initiative to learn more about VIPS, and sets her boundaries with Super VIP. Meanwhile the Antagonist, Happy Betty, is a handicapped woman who is also a CEO. Her being disabled or a woman is never the butt of a joke (except maybe one where she couldnt get up after her wheelchair got knocked over) or the reason she's a bad guy. She's just...a person? A bad person but neither of those traits make her bad. Overall, a deeply fascinating film that shines a light on Italy's state in the late 1960's regarding consumerism, capitalism, and automation.
I'm sure these were issues Bozzetto wanted to address and made a film that best utilized it. MiniVip turns out to be a great hero despite his setbacks.

The only reason I remember this movie was because of this banger, crazy how this song was stuck in my head for 10 years and I just remembered today 44:54

Great characters and plot! Pretty diabolical the plan happy Betty has! And nervostrata is so cute! And the yelp mini vip does when falling is so funny! Childhood revisited!

I saw the film in the early 70's and only remembered the title but not the plot. Now, after a good fifty years, I watched it again and I have to say it's better than I thought it would be. The dialogues are awesome.

my dad bought this movie at the gas station:D
Started asking people to help me find this back in 2008 or so. But after 3 months of no answer i gave up. But found it in 2015 after seeing some other Bozzetto stuff on here. That little guy with the hat i think it was. Now i got the Italian box set with all the Bozzetto animation in there.. So nice to catch the amazing and very political cartoon of Super VIP that I saw back in 1975/76 or so. It was doing my head in that no one knew what it was. Of course i didnt get all the stab at US and its consumerism and so that Bozzetto despised. But it was just good clean fun at the time.. 😏

I own the out of print dvd box set Tutto Bozzetto (o quasi) which comes with Bruno’s first three films: West and Soda, VIP Mio Fratello Superuomo, and Allegro Non Troppo. Along with a bonus disc of documentaries about Bruno Bozzetto.
I bought this set off of ebay for a little over seventy US Dollars (converted to Euros) and still have to watch the first film, but I thoroughly enjoyed the other two. The reason I am able to watch them is I have a region free blu-ray player.

I just remembered the name of this so i looked it up, i remember seeing this when i was younger as it had an ad in the pre-roll of a VHS, i remember th brainwashing song and it low-key freaked me out as a kid, glad to know i wasn't crazy as i tried to find evidence of this for a long time

Ging mir genau so. Hab den Film seit Anfang der 70er Jahre nicht mehr gesehen. Heute am 1. Mai 23 ist er mir grade wieder eingefallen und sofort gefunden. Witziger Film, gute Dialoge. Und dann finde ich hier sogar noch einen Österreicher, dem es genau so ging.

@@waldorfstatler7139 Vielen Dank. Ich weiß nicht warum ich mich vor etwa einem Jahr an diesen Trickfilm plötzlich erinnerte, ich weiß nur es war ein 24. Dezember, also Heiliger Abend, ich war noch ziemlich klein, ich denke mal ich war noch nicht einmal in der Volksschule, damals brachte der ORF an diesem Tag noch echt gute Filme, nicht nur unbedingt für Kinder, auch spannende Abenteuer Filme und reizende Familien Filme wie Dr. Dolittle mit Rex Harrison und Tschitti, Tschitti Bäng Bäng , auch
20 000 Meilen unter dem Meer mit James Mason als Capt. Nemo und weitere. Als Kind freute ich mich auf dieses Programm tagsüber vor dem Heiligen Abend um die Nervosität und Spannung vor dem abendlichen Besuch des Christkindes zu überbrücken, was ja auch die Intention des ORF, den Eltern war dies sehr willkommen, die waren ja eh ziemlich mit der Vorbereitung für den Heiligen Abend beschäftigt und somit waren die quängelnden Kinder vor dem Bildschirm ruhiggestellt. Schade, dass sich das heute total geändert hat, am 24. Dezember vor dem Heiligen Abend läuft im ORF und in sämtlichen Kabelkanälen leider nur langweiliger Mist. Das hängt natürlich mit dem Wandel der Zeiten zusammen, man ist nicht mehr auf das TV Programm angewiesen, dafür hat jetzt jedes Kind ein Smartphone, wo sich jeder wahlweise das Gewünschte über Netflix oder Prime,...ansehen kann oder diverse interaktive Spiele darauf oder auf der entsprechenden Spielekonsole in Anspruch nehmen kann. Das ist nichts schlechtes, ich würde das Gleiche als Kind heute mit diesen Möglichkeiten tun. Trotzdem find ich es etwas schade, der 24. Dezember hat disbzgl an Reiz verloren, es ist nichts besonderes mehr dran, das Christkind ist schon beinahe ein Fremdwort und fast unbekannt, wogegen Santa Clause jedem Kind ein Begriff ist, kein Wunder wenn in div. Werbespots nur noch dieser US Export zu sehen ist, welcher von der Coca Cola Company bereits in den 30ern des 20. Jahrhunderts erfunden wurde.
Obwohl ich die Supervips nur einmal zu Weihnachten im TV in deutsch sah, hatte sich dieser alte Trickfilm seit den frühen 70ern bei mir eingeprägt, ein Glück, dass es YT gibt um ihn nach so viel Jahrzehnten wieder zu genießen, zwar auf englisch , aber das stört mich überhaupt nicht, da ich dieser Sprache auch mächtig bin, nicht ganz perfekt, aber es geht so.
Ist übrigens von den gleichen Machern , welche den Herrn Rossi der das Glück suchte, etwas später danach produzierten.
Bitte entschuldige meine lange Antwort, ist ja schon beinahe ein Roman 🙂.
