+Damp Rabbit Thanks DR ..It was 1985 Sept.. and the L.A . Guitar show had ended that weekend . This performance and talk was done the next day on Monday. I had the blessed time of seeing Jaco and his girlfriend ( wife ) for 2 days and then also on that Monday. I had stayed at the hotel room that M.I. used at the L.A guitar show watching the equipment so I saw the whole weekend events at the show.. I was the one that got them to let Jaco jam at the pool stage...
I was at BIT in their beginning stages, and somehow I missed this clinic! (Must have been my daily commute from Pomona) anyway, could you please post the full video for everyone to see, cal it um......a Christmas gift from you to us :-)
Dear Musician's Institute; So what about all the bass players around the world, who like myself, already have their degree in music but would love to see the rest of this video? (We're not about to enrol again just to watch this one video... lol) In the spirit of generosity, please just share it for people to enjoy! Cheers and thank you
I was there that day.. It was in 1985 on a Monday right after the weekend of the L.A. Guitar Show where I was working for M.I. and sleeping and watching the room M.I. rented out at the Hotel that the show was at. I got that weekend to hang out with Jaco and his girlfriend.. It will be a wonderful memory for me always !! : )
Frank was playing guitar but also Pat Buchmann is who that drummer is ....He was from France and graduated in March 1984 from PIT ..M.I Frank graduated in 1982/3 ??

This was between March '85 and March '86 when I attended. This was at the old address at 6759 Hollywood Blvd above the wax museum and Snow White's Café.
It was between March of 85 and March of 86 but i'm thinking 1986.... I was in the front row. I remember he showed up with a basketball and no bass..... He borrowed this bass from a Student in the back row and then proceeded to play Portrait of Tracy... After the clinic he invited me and a buddy to go play basketball...I should have gone......j
Jaydee posted a thread on a board a couple years ago discussing an attempt to arrange a Jaco Pastorius signature bass but apparently this took place just as Jaco's bipolar disorder and substance abuse made his professional life untenable and the bass never made it past the sketching stage, but it apparently stemmed from his use of one at this clinic, if the story is true.
Jaydee is a small custom bass manufacturer in the UK that hand builds basses similar to Alembics that are used by Mark King and a few others as well. They're pretty expensive.
This man should not be dead.
Jaco you are my favorite bassist forever! We love you! RIP.
Wasn't expecting Frank Gambale to jam on guitar with Jaco. Glad I got to see this. Two of my all-time favorites
The man was a complete and utter musical genius. A mad, musical alchemist. His like will never been seen again. Jaco was Bach II.
This was from between September 85 and September 86. Jaco was appearing at some Hollywood guitar show and the Jaydee bass was borrowed from a student.
To clarify, this was shot in MI, not the Hollywood guitar show. I think this room was called P2 and was where all the guest seminars took place.

Hi RH.. What year did you go to BIT ?
Seriously don't use this to make people sign up. Treasures like this should be shared for us all to learn from!

Jaco rules! But tio Felipe knows all those techniques too. Isn´t it Tio Felipe? Or Uncle Felipe? But man look Jaco walking? Killin! RESPECT!
Is it JayDee Supernatural bass guitar? Similar model was played by bass player from Level 42 Mark King.
It's from the 80's!
Who is, after all, this Uncle Felipe? Can anyone tell me?

+bcrich581 Who is jaydee?

Considering Gambale wasn't even in LA at the time, no, it isn't the late 70s. It's from the 80s; Gambale went to LA in 1983
1985
first 12 seconds is the only thing anyone should remember when it comes to music, cause if you dont remember it then it probably wasn't any good.
Looking a little David Lee Roth.
