Thanks for the run down, nice setups and approach man. How bout a good surf/wade setup? Having a time trying to find a combo that can handle live bait/cut and a 4oz weight without being clunky feeling. Thanks in advance
Awesome video! Looking forward to the series coming up! I’m actually saving up to get the curado 70 mgl. I enjoy casting setups much more than spinning, so it will be used for ned rigs and paddle tails. Gonna pair it with the shimano glf or gloomis e6x rod. It’s cool you use casting gear too. Keep up the awesome videos man!
Thanks brother. Yeah I definitely prefer casting over spinning for several reasons. I just picked up the Curado mgl Monday, I’ll let you know what I think.
Recently I ordered a KVD wake bait and I got some Paul Brown Fat Boy corkies to try for the first time. Lately the pufferfish and other tail biters are trashing my soft plastics in a few casts around the Chesapeake. Hopefully I'll learn to catch reds and trout on them.
@@southernsalt The KVD bait and a Skinny Lipper got here from Salt Strong a day early today. It's too windy for the wake bait and I didn't have any luck with the Skinny Lipper but I got a 16" trout on a Strike King Trout Magic from the local pier this evening. If the weather stays decent I'll be up for a sunrise session, hopefully it'll be calm enough for the wake bait. It sucks being stuck on piers and beaches, I can't get to the good spots.
Your videos really help, thanks for sharing Going to the Louisiana coast in 2 weeks. What 2 color bugs jigs would give me the best odds. Clear and murky for reds and specks in this summertime heat? Of course I’ll be seeking out cooler moving water.
Love your videos! I’ve been trying the wake bait with no success here in the La. marsh….. I’m certain it must be user error, but can you tell me the best retrieval methods you use or any other tips. Thanks!
Is the leader completely necessary cause I’ve caught a few on just strait braid, but recently with that nothings been biting so I was wondering if the problem was not having a leader?
Idk iv caught plenty reds with no leader. I think it’s more for wind and braid twist but if needed braid straight to a 1/4 jig head with paddle tail and pulled reds all day . I fish the flats tho.
Nathan - I'm learning so much! When buying a lighter reel what retrieval rate do you prefer (does it make a difference) - the Shimano Curado 70 has a 28 and a 32 available. Appreciate you! Jack
That’s the only link I can find from Amazon. I think their having a hard time Getty them in. I placed a order for 4 of the green ones. They work very well too. A buddy told me that eBay has a few different colors available.
Nathan, first that was a great video and, l am looking forward to the series. Second there is alot of opinions and demonstrations on the best leader material, whether it is mono or fluorocarbon. There is also a hybrid line for sale. I heard you say you used fluro. Any reason? Your opinion on hybrid/fluro/mono leader material.
Man I’ll be dead honest with you, I’ve never tried any material other than flouro for my leader. I do know that mono has a lot of stretch to it and is not as abrasion resistant flouro is also stiffer than non which could be a down side when it comes to having a better presentation but flouro is invisible in water where mono is not.
Bro i tell you this video is right on time gotta love quick tip Tuesday, im searching for a finesse setup for a sz2000 spinning reel i was about to pull the trigger on a falcon bucoo 7’ light action moderate taper, would this action be ok or to light or what?
What’s up bud! For redfish I think that would be a little too light. I would stick around the medium range with a fast taper. A light action rod with a moderate taper would be like trying to fight a fish with a twizzler lol.
@@southernsalt lol cool preciate it this really helps, and now i know what to tie onto my medium heavy casting setup as well. Can’t wait to see the series. Tight lines
New subscriber, and I’m really enjoying the channel. I really want to get in to the inshore baitcaster game. I’m just looking to get your opinion about reel ratios for setups like your redfish rods and your ML trout setup? Thanks man
@@southernsalt Ahh, sounds simple. I guess it’s easy to overthink right?! One more question only if you don’t mind? I think I have nailed down a medium light and medium heavy I’m going to pick up, both TFO. I have no idea with the medium. I really do like the speed and lure rating of the black widow a lot. I even like the color, which is usually not my style. I’ve heard halo can have some quality control issues though, and customer service that’s hard to get a hold of. Would you definitely buy the black widow again? And do you think it’s superior to other rods that fit in the same niche? Thanks for everything bud.
I actually just picked up another black widow because I liked the first one so much. I do feel that for the price it’s unbeatable and it holds a ( year warranty so if anything happens within 5 years they’ll replace. As of yet I have not had any quality issues on any of their rods so I’ve never had to deal with their warranty process or customer service.
@@southernsalt Dude awesome. That’s the exact answer I was looking for. I’m actually out here in SC, and live up in the mountains and at the coast splitting my time. It’s hard to try and understand patterns when you only fish inshore every other weekend. There’s a lot of great Carolinas content on RUclips, especially the podcasts with multiple people talking. Even still, I think you’ve got the best perspective of one guy figuring it out. You’re in the gulf, but you’ve helped me get on more fish out here. I will probably keep in touch with you as a resource to ask questions and stuff if you wouldn’t mind. Feel free to use me for feedback and things if it helps you. Keep up the good work! I’ll try to give back by getting my buddies on your stuff. Thanks again buddy!
Hey man, great video. I’m 16 and starting to get into inshore fishing, and this helped a ton. Much appreciated
Man I appreciate that, good luck out there!
Bought my first wake bait after watching your videos. I also use the buggs. I attached it to a spinner bait and the redfish seem to love that combo!
Awesome man!!!

How did you find it? Tackle warehouse is the only place I know that caries it
I got Rocky Brooks over at Sea 2 Swamp in Gautier MS to order it for me.

Fish high tide tight to the marsh lines and use a medium fast retrieve

I'm heading down to the obx to fish from the surf so thanks

Question do you think 12 lb mono would be fine for reds?
@@WtheredIsBetter if you’re drag is set right absolutely. I’d prefer a little more but if that’s what you got it’ll definitely work.

Hey Jack! I’m not familiar with what the 28 or 32 are referring to but for retrieval rate the 7:2-1 will cover most applications.
The 3db lure link you posted is a green one only. Having a tough time finding another color. Have a link for that tennessee color?
