The Ultimate Guide To The Best Redfish Lures

- In this video, I'll share my top 4 picks for lures that will help you catch more redfish. I'll also discuss the different types of redfish lures available, and how to choose the right one for the job and how to rig them. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned angler, this video has something for you. These techniques work best for me in shallow water.
These 4 lures just catch fish! Simple and effective for redfish in shallow water flats and marsh. How to rig them for simplicity. Sure a FG knot, leader line and loop knot works but is it really needed? I have found that if you put one of these 4 lures in front of a redfish they will hit it no matter how you rig it but these ways will save you some time and trouble rigging. The soft plastics, I tie straight to braid but a leader line will help with abrasion. Tight lines yall

I watched your video last night and picked up a 1/2 oz gold spoon this morning. It helped me land my 10lb 5oz pb Redfish this afternoon. Thanks for the video.
That's awesome man! Congratulations on your PB
Thank you for showing how to rig the baits.
You're welcome John!
Love your video, they are so descriptive with the simple stuff, others skip over!
Thank you David!
You can retrieve spoons fast if you want and they'll catch fish but a spoon like the Bagley or Johnson isn't designed to roll or spiral in the water. They're designed to wobble with the lure moving in a side to side movement with a slow to moderate retrieve rate. Even with a slow retrieve rate you can fish very shallow water by keeping your rod tip high. With a fast retrieve the tension on the line can be too great for cheap barrel swivels like those shown and line can twist. Quality ball bearing swivels would be better.
Great Video ! A fisherman can spend a small fortune buying a broad selection of lures; different colors and sizes of each type of lure. The VUDU Shrimp, coated liberally with Dr Juice Fish Attractant, is one of my confidence lures for tailing' Reds, and under a Popping Cork for Specks.
Thanks Kenny! Vudu is top of my list also.
I went fishing last Tuesday and only got one on a paddle tail, had to throw it directly onto its mouth when they were blowing up on a school of bait, after that, caught two trout on my double grub rig
Well the top water in cedar keys in amazing sir but it’s just the flick of the wrist with top water sir not saying you wrong I been catching nice re
Do and trout sir ok then nice video sir
This video was made in the summer time. We are slamming them on top water in the fall right now. Different areas, different methods and fish behavior changes through the seasons
Ur totally right on the amount of lures u actually need. I have tons of different kinds of lures tons of colors that I don’t use from when I first started. Now I narrowed it down to about 3 lures that I use. even colors only use 3 or 4 different ones
Most fisherman realize at some point that they will all catch fish but we will be most confident in a select few. I use to love testing out new lures just to see if a fish will hit it but that costs a lot of money lol
Are these baits good for most all locations? I’m in Costal N.C. and fish in Atlantic Beach. I’m as greenhorn as they come.
They will work all over the place.
@PomexFishing loves your stuff my man. Keep that content coming. Great tips and advice.
Thanks man!
What brand of wake bait do you use? I’ve seen decent success from the strike king ones
I've always used the 6th sense wk80
Like that, keeping it simple
What’s the purpose of the leader vs just tying to the braid?
The thick leader helps prevent tangles on the hook by braid
Good job brother.Been wanting to try a wake bait.Now i am.Thanks
You're welcome. They catch fish!
You do great explaining how simple catching reds can be!!!
Why no popncork?????
Thanks Roy! I fish too shallow most of the time for a cork. The hook will just drag into the grass. They work better in 2 feet of water or deeper in my experience

After I’ve watched your videos, I can see that…..it’s fun for me because I’ve fished the panhandle of Florida for years. I’ve fished CC several times and just use the sand tactics. My buddy likes the Jeddy so we throw 3oz spoons….not my favorite but we’ve catch some dandys!!!

Can’t wait to come down and fish with you.
@@roymyers8575 let me know when you're ready Roy
A ball bearing swivel will help eliminate line twist better than a barrel swivel. If you're going to bother with a swivel you should use a good one for trolling. But if you don't reel in your spoon too fast it should twist your line. I use a Johnson Silver Minnow without a swivel and don't have issues unless I retrieve too quickly.
I just got a KVD wake bait and a Salt Strong Skinny Lipper to try for reds and trout in the Chesapeake Bay. Hopefully they'll catch fish because I'm tired of pufferfish and other tail biters ruining my soft plastics.
No Way
Great video. Regarding inline hooks, placing them in opposing positions (away from each other) should prevent them from hooking onto each other. 😊
They make quick clips/snaps with barrel swivels built on. Tony clips is one type. You could leave a leader on, tie to a Tony clip, and then switch between your spoon amd wake bait or top water very quickly and never have to retie.
What knot do you use for the braid to swivel?
Uni knot
Palomar knot works very well too
I tie snap swivels on my spoons..
Those work too but seem to catch more grass where I fish
What state are you fishing
South Texas. Corpus Christi to Rockport
Snaps make a difference when you just don’t want to tie another lure on. When fishing you want to fish unless you have to tie a knot.
They make things a lot easier
I'm having a debate with my friend. I see everyone using mono carbon or some other kind that helps reduce the chance to break off on rocks. My buddy who got me fishing has me on only 50 lb braid for main and lure and occasionally with a metal lure. I saw some videos where they'll use 50-80 on braid and 100lb
I guess what im trying to say is that is there a advantage not using braid for the lure?
That all depends on where and what you fish.
Thanks for sharing Fish Whisper 😁
Thank you for watching Melissa! 😁
The reason there not biting top water is kind of like when u see a speed trap u flash your lights to signal other cars , well Justin your infamous among fish when they know your out there they tell there fish buddies “don’t bite nothing Justin is up there “. 😂
Lol 🤣 maybe so 😎
Great video. I just came across your channel, you seem like a real honest nice guy. That's a rarity these days in the YT fishing community.
You've earned my sub and I look forward to watching more videos and trying some of your methods here in SW FL.
Tight Lines
Thank you I appreciate that man!
Cool man thanks
You're welcome 👍
I got a hole over here around Surfside TX that always holds Redfish.
It's a small 4' gut & I can't get them to hit any of my plastics & I have $100 of dollars worth.
They love live finger mullet. They will smoke those finger mullet in about 3 seconds, then I put many plastics on & nothing. It's weird
Artificial bite can be tough sometimes.
Have tried to add a fish attractant like procure to your lures?
Loving the flatwater baits. Just wish they had morning glory
Travis can probably make any color you want. Reach out to him on Facebook under Flatwater Baits Travis Meier
Can I get details with your #2 lure - weight bait. Also, is it good for surf fishing? Thank you.
It's a 6th sense movement 80 wakebait. I don't surf fish but if the current isn't ripping it should work there too
Exellente brother I'm same way keep quiq and simple and effective 👌 💯 great job brother
Keeping it simple 💯😎
You can use a larger in line on the rear and it’s almost weedless. You can also put a smaller in line in the front position. They are available in many different sizes down to like number two I believe so I will tell you from experience that putting a larger size, say one out on the rear position is very effective for fishing weight, baits and shallow diving crank baits, such as a. Such as as as a rebel, we crawl very effective for redfish and flounder
Gothcha! can you send me a pic of one rigged like that? cleanfunfishing@gmail.com Thanks
Wake bait is awesome. I found that if you hit the Bail on the spinning reel a little early in the cast, the wake bait doesn’t get fouled as much.
It does help to short stop it
Thanks for the tips #fishon
I live Gulf front in the Seagrove, Fl area, northern panhandle. On the beach, for me, the Halco 135 Roosta Popper, pink, catches everyday. Because of the Mackrel and small sharks, I use a 50 fluorocarbon leader, about 18in on 30lb braid…
Thanks for watching man! Different bodies of water, the methods are different. These are more like marsh and shallow grass flats methods
@@cleanfunfishing understanding…I have two areas, the beach and the bay. In which a different method and lure is needed… keep up the god work…
I think the crankbait-line snag issue comes from how fast the line comes off the spool. I try to give the line some tension as the bait reaches its furthest point to ensure there is not any slack the hooks can get snagged on
I also "short stop" the wakebaits but still had issues with spinning reels
I use only spinning reels and stopping the line “short” works fine for me with the wakebaits.
I’m in Galveston. Lots of oysters so a popping cork works best for here
We have shallow oysters here too all over the place
How do you go about untwisting your line after fishing with a gold spoon? I haven’t found a good method to untwist my line and I’m worried too much twisting will cause a break off
I actually don't have to untwist it. My last spoon set-up used for 5 or 6 months with the same line and that is fishing 5 days a week. But I hear you can let your line out behind the kayak with nothing tied on and basically troll the empty line and it will untwist. I've never had to try that though
@@cleanfunfishing thanks! I might need to try a bigger swivel, I’m using a very small 80lb swivel, but it might be too small and still causing my mine to twist
Really helpful video. What is the purpose of using the leader?
I'm glad it was helpful. The leader is part of the rig for the barrel swivel. You have to use some kind of line and a stiff mono works for me. Also helps prevent tangles from the braid main line
This is my favorite video! Saving it for reference. I am a rookie ha ha
Thank you. I'm glad it was helpful!
Awesome lessons
LIKED YOUR VIDEO AND SUBBED YOUR CHANNEL...
Thank you. I appreciate that!
Well done, the information video was great to watch.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
What knot do you use to tie your swivel to braid
Uni knot
Does the soft plastic lure on a jig get tied directly to mainline or leader?
Good question! I accidentally left that out. I tie soft plastics straight to braid for simplicity
@@cleanfunfishing awesome I appreciate it man👍

Hey coach, what about the ZMan chatter bait…I caught my very first Red on one. thanks for all the excellent tips!!
High Noon
They work too. Similar action of the wakebait
@@cleanfunfishing do you think the ZMan chatter bait possibly scare the fish at times….just wondering.
It is a larger profile lure and could spook them a little easier in shallow i think
thanks for the video.
