    Great informational video! Thanks Ruben and captain Cody. Anchor fishing makes sense. I can relate to this. If you’ve ever waded in debris areas littered with rocks. Releases flounder and watch which direction he goes. A good percentage of the time they will go right up against the debris. If you wanna catch these fish you have to think like them. Or at least I tell myself that lol

    Thanks for the video, I’ve always used a tandem dropper loop rig but will definitely give this a try. It’s an easier rig to tie and I’m liking adding the palomar at the end of loop for more bait action, plus one hook saves on Gulp 👍🏻👍🏻🎣

    I thought I had every bit of advice and information I needed for gulf flouder fishing, i have notes written down to a science and all the rigs pre tied for when i do go out next to fish them but i guess I'll have to add this single hook rig into the rotation as well. It's really not that different just one hook less and I agree maybe itll save a little money on gulp/curly tails.

    very interesting - i learned from old school guys a generation ahead of me that fished the GB system in the 1960's/70's using more of a carolina type set up - i love the way this rig presents the bait - but on first glance I would fear that the 1 oz weight hitting the bottom like that would distract/spook the flounder - but the proof is in the experts so I cant wait to try this!

      Thanks for watching. Yea its called a chatter weight. They come in very handy for sound & you can use them for any lure. I use them a lot tie them to my main line & my leader line then the I'm using. And in this video we did the same thing tie them to the main line & then tie the rig to the other end. If that makes sense lol. I buy them from Academy but I'm sure you can find them at any sporting good store that sales fishing products. Here's an Amazon link but just so you can see what they are. Academy sells them for much cheaper.

    I’m not good at flounder fishing by any means, but I have been getting my limit every time at seawolf park. I use a tandem rig with gulp and I don’t jig, I just reel in slowly and that is how I got my flounders all the time.

    Flounder are located in a staggering variety of environments, and their behavior reflects this. Not only that, but there are other species which will happily take the baits YOU intend for flounder and this needs to be considered as well. I can't imagine that one particular rig is best for ALL flounder fishing.

    • @TexasAllWaterFishing
      @TexasAllWaterFishing  Год назад

      I will fish for flounder with 3 basic types of Setups and for me this one has worked extremely well. Sometimes they want to see different presentations. But cast vs hook up, this rig is my personal go to. We all have different options of what we like to throw. I have nothing but great feedback from most people after making this video. Of course there's always one person here & there that will disagree with something that's said but that's with everything. Thanks for watching 🤙🏼

    This is the kind of rig I was catching flounder on at SWP. What makes the difference is how the hook is tied on. Instead of being right on the line like a typical drop shot its extended a few inches. Perfect for flounder. I use a circle hook, set it hard like he says, and Ive hooked em good every time. Only flounder I've lost was when one ran into the rock while I stopped reeling to get better footing and it snagged me.
    Listen to the guides/Cap.'s. They know a thing or 2. You'll catch more fish when theyre kind enough to share.

      Awesome! In a short time I've been using it it has caught me a lot of fish. I was really surprised how effective it was. I tend to fish at a fast pace being a kayak fisherman. You have to fish fast most of the time due to current & wind pushing while you're trying to fish a stop. So this rig really helps me stay in contact with the bottom. Thanks again & thanks for watching 🤙🏼

    Great video. I have 2 questions for you, when you fishing for flounder and said you want jerk that rod real hard to set the hook but what if a trout has the hook in its mouth and your going to rip that hook right out of its mouth so how can you tell what’s on the other end of your line?
    Last question, when I’m fishing with this rig do you use live/dead bait or have you used a plastic shrimp bait with this rig?

      All good questions, for the most part flounder will give you a slight bump or tap. I slowly raise my rod tip up to feel if it's heavy. And if it is heavy like you're dragging something it's a flounder. I quickly lower my rod tip and reel in my slack line, then quickly set the hook hard and fast. You can use live or dead bait, I like using gulp but any soft plastic works too. I've even used Vudu Shrimp, works great.

    Man, I wish there was a way for us channel members to meet up and have some beers and a fish fry, that way we could all swap knowledge and stories and potentially fish together in the future. I understand that this isn't ideal at the moment because of the virus, but one day that would be cool. I typically have an extra spot on the Shallow Sport that I know could be filled by someone who could potentially teach me a thing or two. Hope to see you out there one day. Cheers!

      This spring or last spring I was going to start doing meet ups & open invites. Of course covid killed that. I'm really hoping that I can start that up soon 🤞🏻Personally I would hate for anyone to have a covid scare that just attended anything with the channel. But I will say this. Cody & I are going to be part of something were we will offer something similar but on a smaller scale. I can't say yet but it's coming soon. Something we haven't seen in Texas but it's going to be very cool

      After a couple of years using this rig, I'd have to say it's extremely effective. I typically use a 2-3 size hook. Keep in mind when fishing if something isn't working change it up. This is my #1 rig for flounder fishing, then I like to tandem if the flounder aren't biting, then single jig head if they still won't bite. Good luck & tight lines
